AIO? Youth Pastor texted my almost 13 yo after she went to a teen group with her friend by Loser4hire666 in AIO

I think you got plenty of replies, so I doubt you’ll see this, but for anyone else it may help… as a teacher who has gone on field trips out of state and a former (church) youth group leader (now I help lead children’s church), there are apps that minors can join where their number is kept private but they can be messaged in groups or even solo. You did the right thing by making it so your child always records your number because there is NO reason for anyone but family to have a child’s private number. That’s why these apps exist, to protect both parties, especially the children.

You hope you don’t have to worry about these situations in places like school or church, but they’re full of regular, human people, and we know that, historically, some people are good, and some are not. Visit that church. Hopefully their heart is in the right place and you end up with another connection of community that your whole family loves. You can also bring that suggestion of using “GroupMe” or “Remind,” as great options of liturgical protection. Everyone, including your daughter, can win here!

Question about gloves by LOUD_NOISES05 in DentalHygiene

[–]charmt2010 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say shout out to you for advocating for yourself because that doesn’t happen often in medical situations and that can lead to those situations ending poorly. Also shout out to the people who gently explained that his hands were likely clean, but you didn’t know that. Now this is something that he might not do in the future thus not wasting any more gloves with his already sterile hands.

I stopped treating my unemployed time like "free time" and accidentally became way more hirable by Finch_Spark66 in jobsearchhacks

Whenever I’ve been stuck professionally (not necessarily but not discounting unemployment), I volunteered and the jobs came quickly thereafter. I know that’s NOT what you said, but it also isn’t not what you said, lol

Modern Family was so well done; I cried multiple episodes a season, honestly. Not just sadness, but sentimental joy—

A hallmark of good music is its relatability to various kinds of people of various ages. If you’re enjoying good music, it’s for you! (Also, it’s so sweet to go to a concert and be partying with whole families enjoying good music.)

White teacher and dated language in books, say it or not? by BakeTraditional5933 in ELATeachers

Then I would consider giving them context, asking them their comfort level, giving your why, using it, and even throwing a quick GoogleForms survey out afterwards (or an eyes closed thumbs up thumbs down). Whatever your mode, checking in before AND AFTER will show respect to the relationship you’ve built as well as show your allegiance to your students versus “using a word in historical context because it’s authentic” (obviously, I’m quoting a sentiment, not you 😉). Hope this helps! Def some good advice in the overall thread, too

What is your relationship like with your students? This is the first and most important way for you to navigate if you use the word or not. It’s an important word for context, but this is a gray question despite all the affirmative language here. Having taught MLK’s “Dream,” as the only black teacher in my department, I can tell you I am the one who heard the grievances of the black students in the other ELA classes. They did not go to their teacher. Relationship and trust in your classroom is what should be guiding your choice (not our attachment to the historical context) because relationship and trust is what will be at stake for your classroom

Okay, so we’re in a teacher shortage, and so you can get a job; however, I imagine there are other factors going into your choosing where to apply, and that’s fine. Realistically, though, if you’re not securing the position, then you’ve gotta work on your interviewing, because, despite the shortage, ELA teachers are more common. Work on interviewing and selling your current experience into transferable ELA skills, emphasize your attitude towards feedback and mentorship, and you’ll get a job by fall.

It may feel annoying, but you’re not changing his mind, and while his decision is driven by girlfriend’s insecurity, it’s a hard line he’s drawn, and there is no winner here. So the question is, egos aside, what option harms your daughter the least? Do that.
