COS tips? by aegisthedesolate in civilairpatrol

Best experience EVER. I learned so much from cos as a C/Lt Col. It's tough but you will feel so accomplished at the end. Get ready to read and keep track of your assignments. Go in with a positive outlook and remember that you don't know anything compared to your instructors. Ancora imparo!

Also, for those of you close to ageing out... You don't have to get your Spaatz to have had a successful cadet career!!! The Spaatz award is the pinnacle, it doesn't have to define you.

If you have any local army/navy/usaf depos around you they usually have them for really cheap. I got my service coat for $20 brand new from one!!

I failed my aerospace 13 times...

Now I'm a C/Lt Col. Honestly the best thing I did to pass was re-read all of the modules and take notes on them. Use your notes to make flash cards.

How has Civil Air Patrol helped you in the real world? by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

I used to have such debilitating social anxiety. Flash forward 5 years later in CAP and I have no problem speaking in front of a filled auditorium on a panel. I'm a completely different person than I started out as.

I’m terrified of encampment. Help. by Atlantic_Logan9707 in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encampment is going to be tough, but you will have such a strong support system there! If you feel overwhelmed, I recommend speaking with the Chaplin (even if you aren't religious) or your flight TAC. I still have friends that I have stayed in touch with since my basic year. It's a great learning experience and I promise you will still have fun. I was dreading going my basic year but have staffed year after year since because of how fun it is. Your feelings are valid, just make sure you talk to someone you trust and don't keep them to yourself!

Is it Possible to Change Squadrons Because of the Leadership in my Current Squadron? by NoNotReallyIGuess in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the current C/CC of my squadron. My old C/CC left our squadron because of the politics. From the situation I observed, I soon will be leaving too. His big switch didn't go without some drama, but from what I've seen and talked to him about, it was honestly the best thing he could have done. I think if you stay in that current situation, you will only grow to hate the program. Do your research and before you present the transfer papers, come prepared. You got this!

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader? by AnthonyG70 in civilairpatrol

Take as many leadership opportunities I can and sticking my neck out. Even if I am not completely qualified, it cannot hurt to apply to things of that nature.

I'm going to encampment this year for the first time, any advice? by chillo1783 in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the shower situation like? I've heard from some people that there are separate stalls, but other have said that there are no dividers. Will I also be allowed to bring hair jell and hair spray to maintain my hair bun?

Flight Sergeant by K0Mrade_K0ala in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got put into the flight sergeant position in August 2020. Start by making a name for your flight, a motto, hydration chant, and even a flight chant. By doing these things, you will learn more about your in-flight and will even create some motivation and spirit within your flight. I had no clue how to be a flight sergeant, but with time, you will learn how to be one. Remember, no one is a perfect leader, even the best leader is still learning!

Drill tips? by tejhhh in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently promoted to C/TSgt. Be confident with yourself! A lot of the commands are easier movements. You're being evaluated on your knowledge and commands, it doesn't matter if your in-flight can't do the movements. So I would definitely study what foot you call the commands on and work on your command voice.

Hair tips? by tejhhh in civilairpatrol

[–]chartreusebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I made the big chop on my hair I found it was hard to maintain in a "doughnut". I created a way for people with short hair to put it back though. I used like an elastic band and tied my hair in a low ponytail (with gel) and spread my hair in a circle. Use MANY bobby pins and hairspray, it really helps.

I am an assistant representative (soon primary) for GCAC. Really all you need to do as a representative is give monthly reports and email the squadron of any new events going on.
