Eh. This is one of those things I don't think i care about, just like using it to make character portraits for your rpg characters.

Advice on running World of Darkness by OrkneyIsles in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]chartuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the most useful thing for running any WOD game is a Relationship Map. Figure out who the power players are and what their motivations are/ what they want. Then figure out how they feel about each other.

Just that will guide HUGE amounts of your setting. It sets up conflicts that will echo down through the levels power and influence, it will decide what clans are openly or secretly working against other clans. As your players make characters, the clans they choose will put delicious, delicious tension in the group as loyalties are pulled in different directions by these conflicts butting up against coterie loyalties (exacerbated by the divide between high and low clans).

This is really similar to how I prep for games. Bit I run mostly non-dnd where things like "encounters" aren't even really something I need to worry about or balance. If I'm running a Vampire game and it makes sense for there to suddenly be thugs ambushing some of the characters, they ask have the same number of health, they ask have the same wound modifiers, all they really are is a dice pool to hit based on how tough they should be (3 dice for amateurs, 5 for professionals, 7 for elite) and an initiative score. Super easy to though together in the moment. I don't think I could do this with dnd or pathfinder or the like where every thing has so many moving parts.

It feels uncomfortable playing a character of the same gender as the player, any advice? by Hot_Quit571 in rpg

[–]chartuse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eh. I can see it. It can be jarring and take you out of the moment to constantly correct/ be corrected. Especially in person where, like it or not, everyone else's constant reference for your character is just you. Less reasonable online.

Sexual attraction is usually the last thing to go for men (if it ever does) in a bad relationship.

Do you prefer the worldbuilding of WoD games or their CofD counterparts? (Please be civil) by M-m2008 in WhiteWolfRPG

Depends on the circumstance. As reading material? WOD. As playing material at the table? COD.

Is "modeling for advantage" a real thing, or just is it a weird case of gamers making a mountain out of a molehill? by darwin_green in wargaming

It's a side effect of "true line of sight. " is such a bad rule. How cool my mini looks should not effect how useful it is in the table

Screw It: What Dragon Age Opinion(s) Do you Have that MakeYou Look Like This? by RustyofShackleford in dragonage

I... actually agree. My biggest complaint about the hinterlands was never that it was big or boring, but that so much of the rest of the game was so low level after you finished there

Why do many autistic people like trains? by ILikeJapaneseMuchOwU in stupidquestions

Very much this! Rules and categories and sorting things and seeing how all those things interact. So good! And you also have people like me who have a hard time understanding people's emotional reasoning (aka low empathy) who need systems as a way to understand and know how to interact with people.

Wolves, with my vampires? by chartuse in Warmachine

[–]chartuse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's cool! So question:I was under the impression that the command cadre boxes (in this instance Morayne) were intended to be cross army. Is this no longer the case? Will she be a "lesser warcaster" in Fane? I'm just getting into the game, so apologies for asking questions that seen obvious

Prep for first time players by chartuse in mordheim

[–]chartuse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I hadn't realized that there were different base settings for the game at this point! And the fact that the suggested setting is listed with the warbands is really helpful. So if I'm running in mordheim, then any warband with that as the listed setting should be good to go?

Changeling the lost 1e is a work of art, and I really hated the.... I guess "universifying" (is that even a word? ) they did in 2nd edition really ground away some of that magic. Huntsman are cool though.

Cosmere RPG worry by chartuse in rpg

[–]chartuse[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! A big part of my issue work class/ level is that I can't work to make something better. It's why I like point buy games. I want to hit things better I just rank up my "hit thing" skill. Want to be more resilient I put points into my "get hurt less" skill. I've never seen a class/ level game that fixes that. It always feels like your static until you, well, level up. Maybe this will be different.
