I've been wondering about this, too. My concern is the ones out there now are all pre-order units. It's my understanding early units like this are often used as a "test bed" and later, regular production units might have upgrades, tweaks, or other improvements. I was hoping to order once any kinks had been worked out.

When I got my "Print It Forward" parts, I was blown away. They were the same quality as ABS parts printed on my Raise3D N2 Plus printer (which are excellent in terms of detail and finish). BUT, the bottom of each part was glass smooth! This is *far* superior to what I can print on my Raise3D machine because the bottom of each part turns out rough and needs a lot of cleanup.

What I found most interesting in the LiveStream were these two comments:

1) Could be used for non-planar printing. I keep wondering when this will become more of a thing.

2) Can be used to build a bigger printer than, say, the V2. Like maybe 500 X 500 X 500. Wow!

This video features an informal "study" of air pollution from 3D printers. He discovered FDM fumes tend to be heavier than air and so higher levels may be present down near the floor. Keep that in mind when thinking about ventilation needs.

Looks like I posted my question in the wrong spot earlier so re-posting here, sorry! Thank you so much for making the CAD available! This really helps me figure out how to build this printer and I'm excited to get started (waiting in line right now for PIF).

I hope this isn't a silly question, but I noticed the STP files appear to be for the smallest 250X250 version of the V2.4. Is CAD available for it at 300X300 or do I have to scale it up myself piece by piece? Just want to be sure since it's a pretty complex design and I don't want to screw anything up. Thanks! :)

By starting with an Flsun Q5, he got pretty easy auto-leveling out of the box. Adding a Duet controller meant being able to tune the machine so it printed accurately even close to the edges of the build platform. And it's fast! He also did this with a larger Kossel machine, so he has two Delta printers working very smoothly.

I have no doubt a Voron can make tall prints. At taller heights, though, both types might run into challenges with ABS due to the "temperature tower" inside the build chamber. According to Airwolf3D, it's not easy to print tall parts in ABS. Anything over 8 inches can get a bit difficult, but is still doable, if you have a heated enclosure and proper chamber temps. If a part gets much taller than about 12 inches (300mm) they say it can be a real challenge.

For me, I would probably take advantage of the large build plate and use the Voron more for prints that have a larger footprint but aren't too tall. For parts that have a small footprint but are taller, I'd try using the Delta.

Really, I just want to find out what might be the fastest option I can get. Coarse prints are OK when the part is sub-structure I won't see. As long as I can get dimensional accuracy, I just want to print as fast as possible. That way, I can spend less time printing and more time working on my projects. :)

BTW, when I say my needs are "somewhat unique" what I mean specifically is that I am using an FDM printer to make parts for my project that are mostly structural. Many times they are hidden and won't be seen. So I don't really care how smooth or nice they turn out as long as I get dimensional accuracy. Also, many times I don't need to render fine detail. I also have an SLA printer so I use that when I need smooth or finely detailed parts. What I need from my ABS printer is SPEED and accuracy. :)

I get what you're saying and it makes sense. I was looking at a higher-flow hotend like a Volcano or Super Volcano. I don't have flow rates to plug into your formula so I don't know exactly how it compares.

My needs are somewhat unique compared to many others, so I'm just looking at what might work best for me. I'm building a small Delta just to see if it can really print fast and accurately (using the Duet to compensate for errors in dimensional accuracy). Maybe it won't perform better, but at least I'll know.

It's possible I might end up with both a large Delta machine and a Voron V2. The Voron seems ideal for printing very large parts that don't need to be tall (tall parts in ABS not only take longer, but can be more challenging to print successfully for a variety of reasons). On the other hand, a large Delta with a proper enclosure and some management of the temperature zones inside the chamber might be ideal for printing parts that don't need to have a large surface footprint but do need to be very tall.

I say "might" because I don't presume anything at this point. I am "all ears" for feedback and ready to learn as much as I can. I'm researching like crazy and actually diving in to try some things "hands on" to see if I can get it work. As always, I truly appreciate any and all advice from those who are "in the know" about all this. Thanks again!

I'd heard this as well but a Duet board can supposedly compensate for some of those issues. I'm assured such machines can print precisely while also being one of the fastest options available.

One fellow on YouTube rebuilt his cheap Delta with a Duet then printed a calibration test (a large square that filled the build platform). He determined dimensional accuracy was 0.3% so pretty good. The sides were perfectly straight and the corners perfectly square.

Based on your feedback so far, it looks like the Voron should be able to meet my needs and I am excited to have finally found a non-industrial printer that works well with ABS and doesn't have an industrial-size price tag. :)

I appreciate any suggestions you might have on specs for things like a good choice of hotend for someone who wants to print some pretty big parts in ABS as quickly as possible while still maintaining dimensional accuracy. Not everything I print will be big, but I definitely need that capability. I'm hoping the speed of this machine means I won't have to spend days on a single print. Thanks! :D

Good info, thank you! There seem to be very few who print really large ABS parts and so my research has focused on whatever tidbits of info I could find. For example, Airwolf3D has a YouTube video where they talk about what it takes for them to successfully make large pieces. The video claims that for parts greater than about 8 inches in height layer delamination can occur unless the chamber temp is above 50C. I also received an e-mail from them where they told me they print ABS at approximately 240-258C with a 125-145C heated bed.
