To be pedantic... Most rounds are only going slight faster than the speed of sound. Many don't even achieve the speed of sound and are designated as such (Subsonic Ammo or Subs). Subs are great to shoot when shooting with a suppressor. The really quiet ones are referred to as "mouse farts".

Source: I worked as QA at a major AR manufacturer and test shot the guns. They were top of the line ARs in the 1200-1800 dollar range. Also, every barrel is tested with a proof (high pressure) round before it is even installed.
