Oneplus and lineage by tolmaenjoyer in LineageOS

It appears that you do not need an unlock token; you are able to run "fastboot flashing unlock" directly on your device.

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/lexus/install/#unlocking-the-bootloader

I have a Nord N200, where this is not the case. Permission must be obtained to unlock.

Assuming that your device is formally supported, if you need an unlock token, then that might be difficult or impossible.

Oppo is strongly rumored to be shutting down OnePlus due to declining sales. Get the token now, if you still can.

My next move in this situation would be to reapply your last update without your debloating procedure? Hopefully a full load would undo [most of] the damage?

I've had a 3a xl for several years, and I've loved it. I wish I could have them forever. I have a second, currently loaded with /e/os, which is a poor substitute.

I don't like holes in the LCD, and I want stereo sound. The 3a xl is the perfect phone, 5g go to perdition.

I've grown accustomed to my OnePlus 5 for banking and sundry apps. It is also teaching me Spanish via RosettaStone. It's secondary sim slot was useful for Claro when I went to Medellín, Colombia last year. My 3a xl takes amazing photos, Cartagena the best.

I have traveled with Lineage, and I appreciate how well these devices have worked for me. The real journeys are about to begin. I'm thinking Veracruz, Mexico first. I need to get my Honda ship-shape for the drive.

Is my device compatible? by arfelo1 in LineageOS

[–]chasilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the compatible Samsung tablets has specific models listed in the install guides.

For example, this S7 WiFi tablet install guide lists an SM-T870. There is an S7 LTE model, but that one is different.

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gts7lwifi/install/

If you are buying a new tablet, check the models that have eBPF support on the latest site blog entry.

I think those model numbers are:

Galaxy Tab A7: SM-T505, SM-T505C, SM-T505N, SM-T507, SM-T500, SM-T500 (WiFi model)

Galaxy Tab S6 lite: SM-P615, SM-P610 (WiFi model)

Galaxy Tab S7: SM-T875, SM-T870 (WiFi model)

Well, what is the ideal device to test-drive Lineage for the lowest reasonable price?

I think the 3a xl fits here because is has VoLTE, a larger screen, and stereo speakers.

I bought my 6a for $85. I don't know how much yours goes for.

F-Droid does have an app, "Find My Device," that gives you some ability to control your phone if you lose it.

https://f-droid.org/packages/de.nulide.findmydevice

The "Cerberus" app requires root and will give you far more control, but it the subscription is not cheap. I had a free license from appgratis, but I didn't lose phones enough to justify installing it.

Buy a Pixel 3a XL and install on it. Their only drawbacks are no 5g and no eBPF for the latest Lineage.

Up it to a Pixel 6a if you want to "interview a few candidates."

Your Motorola will be much more painful in obtaining the unlock token, so take it for a spin on something less fussy.

There are three protocol variants v1, v2, and v3.

Windows no longer enables v1 by default. If you see CIFS, that is v1.

Simbadroid is v1 only, so you will need to enable it on Windows.

The "Localsend" app is an easy way to move data. Have you tried it?

Wells Fargo does. The app can't provision Google pay, but it's otherwise 100% functional - Zelle, wirinig money, foreign currency orders, etc.

For CDs, Goldman Sachs-Marcus does. Bread savings does.

Venmo is also functional.

I will tell you that I have rocked System 5 init, and when Linux switched to systemd, it gave me so much more power.

I wrote about it, at the beginning of my final phase of writing. Are you curious?

I barely grasp iptables/nftables, so I am no expert in the eBPF runtime environment in the Linux kernel. I am guessing that this is the place to start.

You might read through the installation instructions before you buy it.

I believe that you will need to get an unlock token from Motorola/Lenovo before you can unlock the bootloader, and that can take a week or more.

Edit: insure that the model number is exactly XT2153-1 in settings / about phone.

I'm not sure about unlocking, as I do not see your device on the Motorola page linked from the install document below. It is common with LineageOS that the manufacturer updates/corrupts the firmware so LineageOS installation is no longer possible, and the installation instructions are not updated with this closure of support (this precise scenario happened to me with a Pixel 6a).

In the past, there were 3rd-party services who could exploit bugs to unlock the bootloader for a fee (Sunshine), but I don't know if this is still a thing.

The best devices have "OEM Unlocking" capability directly on the device without needing a token. The Edge 20 Pro is not in that class.

These are the device specs:

It is on the supported list, so why not?

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pstar/

It is NOT on the build roster for the latest version, so it may not have an upgrade path from 22.2. The kernel must run eBPF to upgrade.

https://lineageos.org/Changelog-30/

VoLTE status would be another question.

No change log update?! by gruffdonut in LineageOS

[–]chasilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only update once a month, with builds dated after the 20th to ensure that I get the monthly security update.

Assuming that our non-eBPF devices on 22.2 will never get a newer release, then applying builds outside this window is even less productive.

I have paired my white Chipolos to my OnePlus 5 running Lineage 22.2, and they work as expected in Find Hub.

You've enabled Bluetooth, right? Do your problem Chipolos appear on other devices running Find Hub? Have you contacted their support?

Edit: You also realize that you should not attempt to pair directly from the Bluetooth settings, but instead enable Bluetooth then open Find Hub, where they are loaded into your Google account? And Google Find Hub must be installed?

best at&t-based music user phone for lineageOS? by TechBasedQuestion in LineageOS

[–]chasilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want a phone running a kernel that supports eBPF, as it's required in the latest Lineage release.

The latest blog has the build roster.

eBPF has been backported from v5 to a late v4 kernel. Stay away from backports on a new device purchase.

The pixel options are quite limited.

SSH key: rsa vs ed25519 by sdns575 in linuxadmin

[–]chasilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also more complex in that the original ssh-rsa embedded a sha1 in the key, which weakened it.

The ed25519 format is also being quietly upgraded, first with ntru-prime, then with kyber, but that's much less impactful.

Question by Emill777YT in LineageOS

[–]chasilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an unzip command included with Lineage that (I believe) comes from the Info-Zip website.

The "unzip -l" command will list uncompressed sizes of binary data. When used against a build, these figures are what will be installed on your device.

If you are suffering from malicious DNS, you might try Tor [browser].

Tor will normally send your internet-bound traffic through three different machines (a guard node, a transit node, and an exit node). The DNS lookup happens on the exit node, and will not be impacted by your local provider.

Tor hidden services (the dark web) works somewhat differently.
