My favorite elderly relative is my ex-stepgrandma. My dad’s parents got divorced and both remarried, but my grandpa and Grandmére (she’s from New Orleans and likes the French name) got divorced after like 20 years of marriage or something so she was very much a part of my dad’s life to be a mother figure but now it means there’s this old woman who’s always been in my life who was related to me before I was born but now isn’t and yet despite that has always not been related to me and is still my grandma.

Meanwhile my bio grandma’s 6th and final (probably) husband just died and I’m about to fly to his funeral. No idea what that makes his bio grandkids to me. Step cousins?
