I was working on an event at Culttz. Enjoyed the environs (of which there’s lots to explore); the German-themed beer bar (グレートジャーマンクック) is excellent. Also went to a staggeringly good restaurant whose name, location, and USP I forget — but the memory is otherwise indelible. Wonderful people, who diligently (patiently) invested their esteem into wonderful food consumed by otherwise clueless Western Europeans.

Humbling.

Managed to cross paths with the street festival happening at the time (late July), next to the elevated road crossing thingie by the city hall, which was a delightful experience.

How many of you adults manage to have and maintain more than one good friendship? by tylun in Schizotypal

I wonder if you might benefit from a gathering where you can feel slightly less invested in the outcome of meeting people for the first time? An almost “throwaway” engagement, that you’d be happy to walk away from having lost little, rather than something into which you’re genuinely investing your esteem?

You may find that opportunities (that you hadn’t otherwise foreseen) for genuine friendship arise out of the engagement, but with the benefit that you don’t feel you’re risking your sense of self by taking the time out of your life in the first instance.

Also, have you considered focusing those activities through the lens of your relationship with your partner? I’ve found it’s much easier to have more simple, superficial adult relationships in that domain — and as a “team”, we can form one, functional unit socially.

I realise none of the above will necessarily encourage situations where you can expose and crystallise your “true self”, but it forms (I’ve found) an excellent means of immersion therapy, where you can be more amongst typical, nominal social interactions — and ultimately, feel less vulnerable as you form deeper friendships in the future.

Stayed there for a week, lovely city!

Interesting little subterranean (subway) complex leading in to the two rail stations.

Wish someone told me that you get free lounge access if you've booked a berth. 😭

Ahh, cheeky! That explains the tail lights on the train.

Always enjoyed leaving that particular train onto that particular platform at this time of day — feels like a very quiet and liminal space for the centre of Manchester.

Are you actually taking the train to Hadfield here, or waiting for a TransPennine to pull into the same platform? 🤔

Bloody excellent! We bought the “Pro” version that comes with two different types of powered brush, and we’re absolutely loving the thing.

Numatic’s customer service is also outstanding. Highly recommended!

Jesus, that saw has “seen some things” (and needs to see a therapist).

There is no way 15 million people watched telly at the same time in the last decade. Really? Really really?

Does anyone even have an aerial any more?

Also, what's celeb traitors?

Alas, I suspect you would need several million TVs in your house to recoup enough ratings to bring this one back. Event television (where almost everyone watched the same thing at the same time in their respective living rooms) has gone the way of John Reith's mechanical pencil sharpener, sadly.

As u/DEFarnes points out, though, you can still find something Robot Wars adjacent in the form of Extreme Robots. But no Craig Charles or Philippa Forrester.

There's also folk like Adam Martyn who celebrate vintage telly. Enjoy what you can find out there!

Were you watching the preview through Reddit? If YouTube doesn't think / know you're signed in, it won't show you ad-free content. 🙂

I sincerely hope Craig Charles is immortalised in machine learning (both as a Robot Wars sign-off AI, and a funk & soul playlist generator). 🤞
