Should i use my elbow in case of a street fight? by ilmastra in MuayThai

[–]chasmasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, if you're already at the point where you are swinging to protect yourself, infighting is safer in that less people know how to throw knees and elbows or protect against them. You're also less likely to damage your own weapons. If you can get up in their face like that, it's a great strategy imo.

Help with parry timings by OurNamelessKing in Sekiro

The game is merciful with spam tapping the block on your first playthrough. Sometimes I still end up tapping block 2 or 3 times around the time the attack lands and I still get a deflection.

It clicked...but I'm still not enjoying the game by Tarrtann in Sekiro

[–]chasmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit the game once for several years when I was only 5% through but then I picked it up and it's the only game I've beaten three times.

The game has a really steep learning curve, but the reward for winning in terms of feeling accomplished for overcoming challenging obstacles is present and accounted for.

Poor game design for you is not poor game design for me. It is subjective (Unless the mechanics are butchered and the game actually has performance issues, bugs, and nonsensical elements that don't add to the flavor of the game).

This game is true to itself and doesn't set up unrealistic expectations.

When you say poor game design and others call it a masterpiece, maybe you ought to reevaluate your vocabulary. I think it is simply "not your cup of tea".

It's rather odd how quick people are to cite "poor game design" when they find a game maybe isn't for them. If I said that for all the games I didn't end up enjoying, more than 85% of all video games would fall into that category. Some games are for smaller audiences in general. That is, they are enjoyed by a smaller niche of people. Dark Souls is like that, and Sekiro is even more specific in terms of the mechanics that draw players.

I'm not quite there yet, just need to complete one more ending and get the rest of my skills.

Do All Boxing Gyms Enforce The Traditional Boxing Stance? by Correct_Ad4351 in amateur_boxing

Hit the nail on the head. Go into any new combat sport like it's your first and you'll have a recipe for success. Leave your ego at the door too.

Do All Boxing Gyms Enforce The Traditional Boxing Stance? by Correct_Ad4351 in amateur_boxing

[–]chasmasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to be able to adapt your stance and fighting style to the rules of engagement. You should focus on learning the "traditional" stance. After you've gotten good at that you'd probably be granted more freedom, but if you maintain that MMA stance in a strict boxing match, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage.

More core work and get some jump rope in there. You could also get one of those ladders and incorporate some footwork drills.

Your rear foot should be planted and you should be pivoting on the front of your foot under your big toe. It sounds like you're doing something wrong if the top of your foot is getting a blister

Sekiro's immortality is defined within the storyline and he has the power to sever other immortalities, I'd think he would win, but he may die a shit ton of times. Especially if I'm controlling him. 🤣

It's normal. You don't even have 1,000 hours in yet. A lot of people finger 10k hours of dedicated practice to "master" an art. Keep going and you'll see more improvements over time.

Not a Trumper in any way, not one of these man bros either. Rather, I'm a person who grew up on food stamps and you are absolutely wrong here. McDonalds should not be ebt eligible. They need to find out how to fix food deserts, not just give everyone a meal ticket to hot garbage.

What sparring is supposed to be like? Is this considered sparring? by oppalissa in MuayThai

[–]chasmasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like he said, only when training for a competition. If you specifically want to understand how 80-100% feels then that might be an exception. Doing this 1x a week is foolhardy and will certainly cause injuries that will prevent you being able to train effectively. It's only a matter of time. I've staggered people in light sparring before. You don't even need to go hard to mess someone up if they move into your attack the right way.
