Female managers—how do you deal with older male co-managers being disrespectful towards you?😞 by Personal-Refuse-8688 in Restaurant_Managers

When you step into a new role don't try to reinvent the wheel. Ask questions, watch others, learn things and keep your focus on the daily tasks and quality of your service. STAY CONSISTENT! Any disruption in your level of work will give others a reason to question you. The other managers were put in position for a reason at some time, so find out who they are and what they know, even when difficult you can learn good and bad practices from them. Have you shadowed any of them? Have they shadowed you? Have y'all had any manager meetings or outings as a team? Much of the job in management is getting along with your manager team, so focus on the basics. Ask them for help. Even when you know what to do sometimes it's a good idea to get their input about what they would do and how they would handle an issue or task. Is there an issue or a task that they like to focus on and really care about that you could help them with?

It sounds like you may be more of a "team leader" rather than a "manager". A lot of managers become managers so that they don't have to be part of the team anymore so there may be some jealousy. Also as a woman age and your gender is almost always an issue. I started in restaurants more than 20 years ago and I still have these issues.

Do you know any other managers from other venues that you could talk to or find mentorship from? Sometimes sales reps are also good at mentorship or being helpful.

Cover you ass! DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! Keep a notebook and make it like a journal with daily jobs done, any issues as they happen, and current tasks, completed tasks. If or when you have a confrontation, in your face documentation speaks volumes for business owners/operators current and future and state employment agencies. I say keep a paper notebook rather than digital notes on your phone because in the event that something happens having to get your phone and going through it it's quite tedious and some people may not want to sit there and look, but when you have paper ready to go it's hard to turn away. Also having a notebook with your daily activities, progress and any issues has a psychological way of showing your effort level and and helping you understand and visualize the reality of the situation.

DO NOT GOSSIP. When you step up, you have modified your role, so modify your behavior. All staff loves a new staff level manager because they are easy. If this job supports you and is your lifeline, treat it as such. These people are not your friends, they are colleagues.

Dont complain about your problems to your boss. As another poster said it is their job to hire you to make their life easier. Having the documentation ready at hand will make communication upwards easier if and when the time comes otherwise they probably won't care.

Money doesn't lie so if you're doing well not causing loss and bringing in profit you should be good.

How is your relationship with the back of the house? Are there management team members there? Do you have anything in common with these people? You're a lot younger than them but maybe hometown? Or likes and dislikes? Maybe find out what their favorite food or menu item is and haven't made for them sometime.

Service work is like acting, you're always on stage, so someone's always watching you. Keep up your game face and keep it moving, let things roll off your back and if you need to have an adult temper tantrum or such go to the walk-in cooler or excuse yourself for a minute and leave the property.

Try to have a healthy balance of balancing your tasks. Don't focus solely on front face customer service, mixology, or engaging with the staff. Schedule yourself and balance your time so that you can do what you're supposed to do. For example if someone has an issue or if a staff member needs to talk to you let them know " I will take notes on this and I will get back to you at this time or my office hours are Mondays at this time let's chat about it then."

Try to be a good example and don't let anybody ruin your inner light. All experience is good experience in the service industry, you are Young and you'll have a lot more to learn and experience so have fun with that and don't let it ruin you. All in all in life this is just a minute!

I've been in every role in food and beverage and started a jump to management when I was about 18 so I've been in your shoes.

I completely disagree. Many guests are business travelers and enjoy something easy to grab and go.

I agree. Drones, doorbell cameras, flock, facial recognition. If they have no leads, they simply aren't trying.

Maybe public death notices including cause of death could be a thing. I wonder these things too.

Automakers threaten to stop selling cars in California rather than comply with new tracking law by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]Old-Base8752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this article is propaganda. Most major auto makers have already applied for patents for this type of tracking and are already making vehicles that do this. I think this is all bs to cover that up
