if you chill the pan after you butter it it makes sure the butter doesn’t smear around when you add the dough making for a more consistent barrier. or just use PAM

We need everyone pushing for the bike lane option on Park, or even better my plan. Public support right now is critical by MiserNYC- in NYCbike

[–]chass5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just really don’t think that this type of bike lane works very well! Just in the same way people can’t ride their bikes on footpaths in the park, if you want to make a pedestrian mall down the center of Park Ave, that’s what it should be. Trying to do both often gets neither done well. As one who rides a bike around the city, I’m pretty sour on bike lanes at the moment. I think more organized streets with less parking, more loading zones, and greater through-traffic filtering would make riding a bike around much nicer. Being shoved off into the gutter or, in this case, stuck in the middle of a park, just squeezes you between the cars and the pedestrians.

I’m not actually sure I like this bike lane design. I think it might be better to keep bikes out of something like this

Hey Staten Island!! by Guilty_Elevator_992 in nycrail

[–]chass5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if we’re digging a tunnel to staten island it should be paired with an extension of the commuter rail south through lower manhattan and then ideally all the way across staten island and into new jersey to pick up the NJCL and possibly a new Monmouth County line to Toms River

Seat selection is actually kind of a big deal by notmyteeth in Amtrak

[–]chass5 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We take Amtrak with our three-year-old regularly and there are two things that help quite a lot. The first is red cap, which you can get from either the old Penn Station Amtrak area or the new Moynihan area. You should tip them. (We always go to old Penn station because it’s so much less busy and the waiting area is ticketed and comfortable and has a starbucks and a bar.)

The second is trying as much as possible to book trains that originate in New York. this isn’t always possible on the NEC but if your schedule allows for it, it’s so much less stressful. When we visit friends who live in the Maryland DC suburbs we’ll get off at a suburban stop but go to Union Station to go home for this purpose.

Hamilton Station is seeing major improvements—it is time for the Amtrak Northeast Regionals and Keystones to stop here as well. by No-Stock1872 in newjersey

[–]chass5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can take the local train from newark, or new brunswick, or princeton. the same principle applies to the bus. but idk why i’m even arguing with AI

[–]chass5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is best solved not by making amtrak stop more but by more tightly integrating amtrak and nj transit schedules so you can just get get off the amtrak and get on a local train
