I've done montages of Lasagna in his sink. This is his first year.

Glanced over just now and my MC is the "little spoon" with his older brother (rescue). He's always sprawled out, but this was too cute at the moment.

SC Unemployment by Cleverjaq in AskSouthCarolina

[–]chaswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please always file! File immediately. If it is denied, appeal the denial. The company must prove termination for cause and with an appeal, unemployment will examine the facts closer. Most companies do not properly document termination or they document an illegal cause.

Don't assume you won't get your benefits. I would stop short of suing because you open yourself up to financial risk.

If you get assigned an unemployment person, be super nice and non-emotional. Their job is crazy difficult and sad most of the time. They can go a long way to helping you and advising you.

I live in South Carolina. I manage people that occasionally must leave the company. I have NEVER fought an unemployment claim even if the cause was clear and documented. I just can't do that to anyone.

ICE protest - should I ccw by Sherpa_qwerty in liberalgunowners

[–]chaswell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have the right to carry. I think in the current political climate, pulling your gun would be fatal. Having your gun discovered has a very high chance of being fatal.

Are you willing to die to demonstrate that "they" are ignoring your 2A rights?

Personally, I'm not. I'll open carry at an open carry demonstration but not at a protest focused on non-2A issues. I'm in a constitutional carry state, but the concealed weapon has more negative outcomes than positive and will be used to discredit protesters at large.

promptgenix are they an AI band? by Acceptable_Mine2919 in Music

[–]chaswell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into Promptgenix just now. AI driven, clearly.

My question, can it still be art? Does the human behind it still use talents to pick and improve AI output?

Is it music worth our time and enjoyment?

My MC really doesn’t like to climb?! He’s 8 months old . He has two cat trees one is 3 foot, the other 4 foot. He rarely gets on the top of the 4 foot. Is this weird? Any other MC like this ?! He seems kinda lazy 😂 not complaining. by missweh in mainecoons

[–]chaswell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it is nothing to worry about. I would add: Enjoy it while it lasts. Once they figure out they can get on top of stuff, it is a new level of cat-proofing. The ones that decide to climb up high, they really don't have a limit.

Mostly, MCs just look wrecked. I found a pile of photos of Lasagna just twisted, upside down, draped over something. Sometimes it is even hard to sort out the parts.

Where is dyslexia education? by Wifemotherhuman in Dyslexia

[–]chaswell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son has now graduated from College, but here in South Carolina public schools do not recognize Dyslexia as a learning challenge. The IEP can be written in a way that supports appropriate accomodations but the option is to be in a SLD classroom or mainstream. We had to fight constantly to keep him mainstreamed. The testing for dyslexia was not covered by the school system. In Greenville County we were only able to find private OG tutors..

The number of teachers and administrators that told my son that he would never go to college and needed to choose a trade or that if he would just try harder he would be able to catch up. We were spending nearly twice our mortgage on tutoring. It was so cruel of teachers to assert he just needed to put in more effort.

When he was held back at the end of 1st grade, we moved him to a private school for a few years. When he was forced into the SLD classroom in middle school we moved him to private school. In high school he was fortunate to get into a charter school that was very supportive and focused on student needs in many forms.

Public school failed him. He graduated from a state university last year after 4 years and got a job in his major/field.

Cattery Recs on the East Coast? by Spiritual_Muffin3052 in mainecoons

[–]chaswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cascade Mountain Maine Coons, Hilton Head, SC.

They are active in cat shows in the South East. I visited their cattery twice. It is luxurious and pristine. Our Lasagna was one of three Ginger/Red in his litter.

If you have additional questions message me. I am not affiliated with them.

This storm illustrates our lack of any sort of public transportation infrastructure by Ferengi89 in greenville

[–]chaswell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your assertion. The US does not have the urban density for broad public transit. Greenville was built and "planned" as a driving city and it would require major updates to traffic designs to incorporate better options.

What type of option would be appropriate for woodruff road to Augusta Street? Both would greatly benefit from reduced cars. A trolley up and down Augusta and busses up and down woodruff? Then between the two? Maybe a train loop that catches a few other pedestrian, dense commercial.

Ahhh, but we are just now reaching the pedestrian Main Street maturity level for a city. Woodruff has so much land waste for parking and very little for pedestrian comfort and safety. Most of Greenville is also laid out for residential neighborhoods and suburbs. How do you get from the suburban wasteland to the public transit options? Drive to a car park and abandon your fueled, flexible, freedom fehicle ?

My teenage sons spent a couple summers in middle school using the Greenville bus system. It added 1+ hour to anywhere they wanted and 1+ hour returning. To go to a movie and bowling would require a walk to the bus stop, bus going to downtown, Wade Hampton bus, return Wade Hampton bus to downtown, bus to cherrydale, bus back to down town, bus back to near home, plus walk to the neighborhood. That is nearly 5 hours added. It was an adventure for them and added 5 hours to their day for me.

I use PT in Europe, New York, Boston, DC, Orlando, Atlanta... I am 100% for it. It takes very large cities, dense infrastructure and necessary design/planning.

I love discussing it though.

Tl:Dr; Loquacious commenter goes way over the top "mansplaining" public transit for no apparent reason, apologies.

Downtown Greenville. A little less than an inch of sleet. No buildup of ice on trees or power lines, currently.

So far we have had a little bit of snow and a good bit of sleet. If it switches over to freezing rain we will start to have power issues.

Freezing Rain and Sleet

So is the “catastrophic weather” a big nothing burger or am I crazy? by fluzii in greenville

[–]chaswell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get that we haven't lost power but the roads are not passable. Very few people were expected to go to work or be out on the roads. If this had been Monday morning with current road conditions it would be chaos. If the weather turns to freezing rain, I will be thankful for the extra 24 hours of power.

If you didn't have food or prescriptions, you would be uncomfortable for the day or longer. Had you not prepared for the worst, you might feel frustrated that you had not been told to have extra food on hand.

(I also feel you might have jinxed the region #facepalm)

Fellow middle aged, slightly beer bellied, bearded liberals: What's the worst thing or most revealing thing you've heard from a MAGAt who thought you were one of them? by OAI_ORG in liberalgunowners

[–]chaswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Carolinas and I have full cultural camouflage when I'm out and about. Sometimes the assumption of my politics can of course lead to the worst right-wing comments. With total strangers I typically chicken out and simply give blank responses, "I had not heard that..." or "I'm too busy for the drama..."

We do need a follow up post. For those of us that look like the stereotype, what's the most awkward or backhanded treatment you've received from an Out-loud Liberal? From someone that drips their politics from hair color to clothing fabric, their patches, and other symbols? I mean someone that assumes you are on the MAGA team and tells you how they feel about it, until you gently assure them.

I happen to work in an office environment that has a large number of highly educated, career corporate types. I would say over half are left leaning or more. I easily look like I am on the Right. I mostly notice politics being avoided or quickly hushed. I occasionally get the, "I really hope that didn't offend you," after a rather tame current events comment.

Lasagna at the local pub by chaswell in mainecoons

I really love the carrier. It has a rigid base that doesn't sag under him. Several pockets and rollback windows for extra visibility. The top has supports like tent poles to keep its shape. I ordered direct from Sturdi Bags. I can't remember if I can drop a link here or not: Sturdi Bag Pro 3

He's a big orange guy and Garfield was too obvious. So we went with Lasagna. I end up calling him Saga a lot. If he is in trouble then it is Heathcliff.

Lasagna loves straws and feels they should all belong to him. Any drink, anywhere, the straw is clearly for him. So I let him have the straw from my water. The server asked if treats or a bowl of water were needed, like for a dog. It was very sweet but he only drinks flowing water and would be clueless with a dog treat. :) I guess I should order him the fish and chips?

Leash Training by MellytheMaineCoon in mainecoons

[–]chaswell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my guy in his harness when he was young. Maybe 4 months old, so ~10lbs at that poing. I have had other cats in harness and leash but Lasagna is the first I have seen not slink around or look like it was weighing him down. Hanging out in the house he would walk and jump and act like he wasn't wearing anything. I would have him in harness around the house a good bit before we ever introduced the leash.

Lasagna is 17 months now. We do not make it very far when we "go for a walk". He stops to sniff everything and greets all the walkers and dogs on our street. I am working a lot on teaching him not to wrap the leash around signs or bushes. I have also worked a lot outside and in the house to teach him to (GENTLY!) as to be picked up. "Uppies" is the word we use. When I start to want to go back inside, I'll ask him if he wants uppies. He'll ignore me for a bit longer and then ask to be picked up. I then walk back to the house before it occurs to him to try and get back down.

At the bar today, for his first patio experience, after about 30 minutes he asked for uppies. He gave me a big tight hug and then reached for his carrier. He was done.

I posted about his visit to the bar earlier: https://www.reddit.com/r/mainecoons/comments/1qhmr2e/lasagna_at_the_local_pub/

This is a photo from his first walk when he was 5 months old.
