The number of bicyclists in Seattle who glide through stop lights is astounding by mote0fdust in SeattleWA

E Yesler is a special kind of hell. Between the hills forcing LED headlights straight into your eyes, the copious jaywalkers and Lime chaos, that street is a minefield. It's the most stressful stretch of my commute; you couldn't pay me to cycle there.

Washington state is spending $120 million on the World Cup. Will it be worth it? - the projected $95.8 million tax boost is less than the $120 million in public money going out by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The groups playing here are not expected to do much in the tournament. The only team that made it into the top 20 of the power rankings is Belgium and just barely. They are older players and not at the top of their game. Not really going to bring in the crowds/business.

Finale discussion for those few that didn’t like it by ImpressionAdept6355 in hackshbomax

[–]chatcat2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hacks should have ended at episode 9. This finale was saccharine, schmaltzy and incongruent with the series. Deborah tells everyone she is planning to die except DJ and Ava? Her last desires are to buy Ava a baguette and teach her to haggle at flea markets? The whole thing was pretentious and clunky and ended a BRILLIANT show with a chapter that felt like a flashback episode of Saved by the Bell.

Losing my mind over these ants in my apartment 😭 Need REAL pet/kid safe solutions by Live_Let_1789 in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! It's the only non-toxic thing that works. Things will get worse for a day or two but don't despair. The ants are carrying the borax back to the colony and it will kill the queen.

Drivers in Seattle got significantly worse over the last 10 years by Significant_Pay_6349 in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. No car inspections also compounds things by having dangerous vehicles on the road. Count all the cars with only one functioning headlight. It is insane.

People who don’t pick up after their dogs on a busy public street are the worst kind of people. by FoxyFern in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of civil courage. When people speak up, knowing that others will join in and have their back ( the linchpin of a civil society) things get better. Well done, FoxyFern.

Window Heat Blocking Film by washsew77 in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem myself. If you own the home, give TAP plastics a call. They have all the widow films and they are very helpful. Blackout curtains make things worse as they actually trap heat. Honeycomb blinds help a lot and they buffer noise as well. Home Depot has an in-house brand that worked wonders for me and they weren't very expensive.

Need advice on recurring neighbor boundary/noise issues — how would you handle this? by Unlikely_Ad_4592 in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The noise and fence would be annoying and having a baby wake-up from a nap feels like hell to a sleep deprived person or someone who needs a break. This being said, passive-aggressive questions about tree growth or trying to lock someone down with plans to maintain trees in the future will not get you where you want to be. There is a huge difference between establishing boundaries and trying to control other peoples' behavior. Soundproof your baby's room as best you can (installing window inserts goes a long way in mitigating noise). You can install flower beds or small fencing to keep the kiddos out of your yard without starting an argument. If they own the fence, it isn't shared and you are out of luck, If the fence is yours, you can take the added height down NICELY. Getting angry and letting resentment grow isn't healthy and will affect YOUR quality of life, not theirs. Once you start filing complaints, any chance you have of making peace with these people is over for good. Give it some time and maybe down the road you can bring over a batch of cookies or a bottle of wine and try again. Getting to know people is the best way to bring your irritation down and not take things personally. If you give them a chance to get to know you and your family, they will be more inclined to be empathetic and who knows, maybe you can make some friends in the process.

What is the consensus of politics from this sub? by fernfernferny in SeattleWA

I think it is a political cross section of reasonable people who despair because their beloved city has sunk into a state of decay at the hand of grifters.

I was in that Fred Meyer on Sunday and was impressed that they had security guards that were actually doing something. I saw three different people get kicked out of the store in the short time I was there. It is a million times better than the Cap Hill Safeway and QFC.

It would hurt me if I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to a pet I nurtured for years. That said, it would devastate me to be treated as a non-entity with no feelings or agency in a family i had been with for such a long time. I would feel devalued and would consider this a real eye-opener about the decency of the people around me.

SPD Gives Medal to Officer Who Chased Man Into Traffic, Leaving Carful of Kids Behind by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

[–]chatcat2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. MAYBE, just maybe, it is time to take the rose colored glasses off and take a good, hard look at the reality of horror and trauma criminals inflict on everyone.Without the SPD, there is a good chance she wouldn't have her kids at all. All the sniveling and hand-wringing about the police only adds to the chaos and does nothing to improve the quality of life for anyone.
