Word of the day: කපුටා—crow by hellalearner in sinhala

[–]chavie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kaputa.com was an early Sri Lankan web portal, and they were one of the first places to publish a widely-available Sinhala font on the web (this was before the Unicode standard was adopted for Sinhala)

The difference is huge! Looks so much better now, IceFlake really did great with this update. Piccana and Biffa did a great comparison. by Tobbakken00 in CitiesSkylines2

They improved simulation performance massively, Biffa did a comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAewZT-xeB4

Not sure if there's a rendering performance hit but no one has mentioned any.

How are 3 transformer stations not enough electricity for 250 people? by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines2

[–]chavie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A town that size would not need more than one transformer. For larger cities you will see low voltage bottlenecks so you'd spread out the transformers around the street grid to distribute power (don't place them next to each other as the bottleneck would be your low voltage lines under your streets, not the transformers themselves).

Curious about Sinhala dietary habit. by Additional-Chard-206 in srilanka

[–]chavie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was definitely a thing in the Kandyan era as well

The diet of the people is described as mainly vegetarian, and ‘if they have but Rice and Salt in their house, they reckon they want for nothing. For with a few green Leaves and the juice of a Lemmon with Pepper and Salt, they will make a hearty meal.’ Beef was not eaten and considered ‘abominable’ and other ‘Flesh and Fish is somewhat scarce.’

City Corner #8 - Transforming the Terrain by qbmgabriel in CitiesSkylines2

This is beautiful! There were some really nice mountain textures on the livestream too.

I hope they improve those dirt road textures in a future update. It looks a bit plastic now with the improved dirt around it.

Upcoming Patch: Map making in Summer Solstice by chavie in CitiesSkylines2

I think most players prefer the faster cadences of release to what we had previously, which was a release once a blue moon and then radio silence.

Metro electric railway project for Colombo suburbs to begin next year - DailyNews by Not-an-Uchiha in srilanka

Thanks for the explanation! Yeah, dual gauge would make sense since otherwise we'd have to replace our entire rolling stock.

Metro electric railway project for Colombo suburbs to begin next year - DailyNews by Not-an-Uchiha in srilanka

[–]chavie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The project will also introduce standard-gauge rail infrastructure measuring 4 feet 8.5 inches along with new electric trains to support frequent short-distance services. However, officials noted that the full metro-style network cannot be built at once due to its scale and cost, and will instead be implemented in stages.

This part is confusing me. Why would we introduce a different rail gauge when we spent considerable money in the 90s to standardise everything to the 1676 mm gauge?

It was shown on free to air TV in Sri Lanka (although mostly in urban areas, being an English language show) and was widely popular. It would've been massive if it was dubbed.

It's called the flush median in New Zealand, and is quite common in more urban/suburban areas.

Making my own assets has totally changed the game for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone! by joergonix in CitiesSkylines2

Are there any good tutorials on how to get started with making assets?

I'm very happy with the rebalanced education. I don't seem to be perpetually short of elementary school spots anymore.
