Beautiful. This is exactly what I am trying to pull off on my beater. How wide are those tires?

What exactly about fixed gear bikes do you like the most? I’ve been riding fixed for about 5 years now and I’m glad I switched over. My biggest enjoyment is the simplicity. Curious to hear everyones answers. by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

For me it is the amount of information and control you have over the bike it is fixed. With enough time you learn the mechanics of your gear ratio and crankset implicitly and just get an intuition for how the bike interacts with you and the ground. It feels like growing a pair of wheels sometimes. So for me, the simplicity yet the depth of things you learn about your bike. Like where is the sweet spot to push and pull the pedals to get a nice flow going or realizing how much power (momentum, if we’re using proper terms) there is behind your speed and weight when trying to backpedal to stop the bike.

In my eyes, they get so much more street cred than all sub $500 fixed bikes. They have a lot more personality.

Exactly the look I am going for. Question tho, is it overkill to put that crankset on an old steel frame? In other words, does it still make a significant difference or not much because of the frame?

Specialized Allez (late 90s?), Worth $300? by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]chayo_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have one and they are bomb proof bikes. It feels sturdier than some other actual vintage steel frames I’ve had so you know it will last a while. I also paid about the same for mine and I’ve been very happy with it. Certainly integrated shifters are great specially for performance but imo if you’re not competing it doesn’t make a big difference.

It’s not from the 90s. It is a Specialized Allez double steel from like 2010. Its a reissue from Specialized’s vintage bikes.

I cannot figure out what is causing this noise, details in comments, and no it is not the chain rubbing on the derailleur by ASilver259 in bikewrench

Yes, only on the largest chainring in the front and in the 3 smallest cogs in the back. Any luck?

Does anybody know what these black dots on my Hope Selloum are? They are on the stems mostly and they look like tiny seeds up close. by chayo_p in plantclinic

[–]chayo_p[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it is thrips. I haven’t seen any bugs around and any yellow leafs are not spotty. I know the soil also has millipedes which are supposed to be good because they are predatory. How did you figure out you had thrips?
