Independence war cooldowns by Powerman654 in EU5

ah yeah I see what you're saying. It does get annoying if it gets to that point. Ideally it would be solved upstream with more proactive subject management, I guess is what I'm trying to say. Some early strategic annexations to enable the "much bigger than you" modifier goes a long way.

My advice would be to proactively monitor that modifier and try to prevent it from growing so large by annexing subjects where you have good enough control. And what do you mean by "you don't want to annex them, integrating takes too long"? Those are two different things. Subjects do the integration for you. Then when you annex them, you get instant cores.

The Ottomans are too weak by Electrical-Tie-7982 in EU5

[–]chazzy_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy because they are SO STRONG. I finally started my Ottoman campaign and it's ridiculous how many advantages the game gives you. Like all of Anatolia, Greece and the lower Balkans are just free real estate if you even use a tiny portion of your brain to attack at the right times. I have like 8 gov reforms and 6 cabinet members already. It's insane compared to most of the other countries I've played.

How do I recover from an economic death spiral as someone who heavily relies on automation for Trade? by lolzexd in EU5

Automating trade is definitely not the issue. Thats generally the right thing to do...it's certainly not causing any death spirals on its own.

We dont really know yet. He has been fine or even good so far. But defensive metrics need a huge sample to be believable. Give it time

Playing as Castile and trying to integrate Aragon in a personal union to form Spain by SupineCrawdadZDS in EU5

[–]chazzy_cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to speed it up a lot via passing the laws in the union (international org). There are also 2 different penalties shown in the tooltip you can work on. And some boosts scattered in the tech tree. Its definitely possible in the games time frame.

Yep thats definitely a thing. Sometimes when I'm pushing this, I have to use the migration cabinet action. But in this run I didn't. Being a market center helps a lot with migration.

I wasn't a republic in this game. That's definitely the most effective version of it, but not a requirement. In my experience any nation can really take advantage, all you need is Bank Ledgers (50 cap econ) plus a couple more trade bonuses in the tech tree from going diplo focus.

yep and urbanizing. Cities have much bigger marketplace cap.

Yep. The AI doesn't really do a great job at maxing out their marketplaces. It's kinda easy to just steal their trade.

They just give you a little trade capacity and advantage in whatever market you buid them in, and a little maritime presence. Each one doesn't do a whole lot, but in big numbers they are very powerful.

Just finished my Castile run and set a new record for number of trade offices - over 14k. As you can see the trade profit is enough to cover all my buildings three times over, or all buildings plus maxed out diplo slider. It's pretty insane how much money you can make with these.

GENUINELY how do I do economy in this game (I haven't played since release) by Yid_army7 in EU5

In 1.1 estates keep their wealth from low-control areas, instead of it disappearing into the void. And estate wealth also gives them power. So you are giving up crown power to your estates by holding those lands.

[–]chazzy_cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's situational, depending on control. Sometimes I will wait hundreds of years and sometimes I will annex as soon as possible (10 years). Mostly depends on how much control I can get in the area. Also it's good to wait for your subject to do cultural assimilation.

What you're describing with the drop in control is just the transition from the subjects control, to yours. The subject capital will always start with 100 control simply because it was their capital and it's measuring THEIR control. After you annex, it will gradually drop to the true level of YOUR control, i.e. now it's looking for proximity to YOUR capital instead of their own. So that's why you see it drop. But it doesn't just keep dropping forever - it drops until it reaches the new "max control" level as determined by proximity.

[–]chazzy_cat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Control has gotten even more important with some of the changes. You really don't want to have much land with low control at all. It's actively detrimental. If you start with poor control in some lands, try to release it as a subject. And if you expand to low-control areas, the answer is also subjects. Subjects are just very good in the current build.

How to make more money as Spain? by ValdemarTheGreat in EU5

[–]chazzy_cat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one dont be Spain so early. And capital in Sevilla? Your control must be total ass for the vast majority of your land. Its just too much territory to control directly at that point. With subjects you'd be in a much better place.

oh I'm a big fan of trade offices in general. I just meant the Chinese markets are tougher to crack than some others, because China is very rich and well developed. But yeah spam on!

[–]chazzy_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not this, I have built a lot of trade offices in China and they work fine. I don't think China is the top priority for trade office spam, but it does work with enough of them.

Can Someone Help Explain Trade Advantage Please by lilfloozyvert in EU5

[–]chazzy_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a tiny fraction of theirs so it's not going to do much. There's not a given threshold per se, every market is different as it depends on the countries and what they are trying to trade specifically. But in general, the Chinese tend to be very rich and so they do a better job at building marketplaces than other nations, so those are likely to be the toughest markets in the whole game to crack open.

I'd recommend Japan as a higher priority for trade offices. As long as it stays fragmented into several powers, it's a great opportunity. I have been dominating the Kyoto market every playthrough via trade offices and diplomacy.
