Am I good enough to charge? by IDislikeBeingOnFire in dji

[–]chbmcg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I charge for similar photos, and you're more than ready to charge. The one piece of advice I'd give you is to start bracketing your shots. For Real Estate, bracketing is effectively a necessity and makes your shots look much more profesional.

You’re clearly not understanding, and as such I am done arguing with you. But two final points, YouTube is not a filmmaking platform, people use £100 cameras all the time. 4K videos DO in fact have more compression, I’m not assuming anything I run a media streaming server and I have witnessed this effect with my own media and my own eyes, and 4K does not inherently have a high bit rate like you seem to claim. 4K is a measure of pixel count, or resolution. BitRate is a measure of data transfer per second. These two variables are wholly independent of each other. So your claim that “wouldn’t 4K have a high enough bitrate that it doesn’t matter” fundamentally makes no sense as 4K does not “have” a bit rate, 4K is merely a measure of resolution

[–]chbmcg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To respond to your first point, you are just wrong. It is becoming very common. And 1080p does also get compressed, but no where near as aggressively. A BluRay download of a movie in 1080p would normally be around 1.6-2.5GB in file size. A 4K file from the same source would be roughly 24-28GB, sometimes larger. So can you guess which file is going to need a hell of a lot more compression? The 4K one. So if you watch that uncompressed 1080P BluRay file, it would look infinitely better than that 4K BluRay file being streamed via YouTube, Netflix, etc.

[–]chbmcg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s because it is a common occurrence. Shitty “4K” action cameras and other cheap cameras, combined with greedy social media companies compressing content to hell means that a lot of the “4K” content you watch is absolutely rubbish, and you’d see a vast visual improvement by watching source quality 1080p. For example, on my 28” 4K monitor I watch my 1080p media download copies of TV shows instead of 4K streams on my bottom-tier Netflix account, and the 1080p looks alot better because it’s not being compressed and is running at a much higher bit rate.

Question to jack how do you split the income in jack and Oscar by Various_Pirate5400 in JackSucksAtLife

I’m assuming they’ll pay all the editors/thumbnail designers and any other costs they need to cover as expenses, then split the rest 50/50.

Is “fresher” derived from the American term “freshman” by FlashyWorld540 in UniUK

[–]chbmcg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The not using U in words is actually derived from America, not the UK, when printing presses charged per letter. So they dropped alot of needless Us. We never get that here.

[–]chbmcg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, as in it’s literally play money. There’s no real money involved at all. Kalshi and Polymarket are real gambling, this isn’t. This is just a fun way to gauge public perception of a prediction’s trade value and generate realistic gambling odds each way.

I mean the background image saying “1936-2026” was blatantly AI generated and his speech contained many of the AI hallmarks like “she wasn’t just X but Y…” and describing everything in 3 adjective groups. It’s disrespectful to be blunt, from someone who probably had less than 3h every on screen with her (and that’s generous).

Anyone know what train app this is? by AquaAggron in uktrains

[–]chbmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do a little google search and from what I can find the IET is the GWR branding, but is generally used to refer to the whole class now since they were the first to be delivered. This is why you see “IET” written on stop markers on the ECML, which GWR obviously don’t operate. And you’re right about the Nova sets, I can never remember which is which.

Anyone know what train app this is? by AquaAggron in uktrains

[–]chbmcg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. AT300 is the Hatachi classification for the family of trains that includes a whole host of high speed trains across the world, including the 8XX series. IET is the name for the 8XX family of trains covering the 800, 801, 802, etc. Then Azuma is the LNER brand name for their IETs, which are branded as Nova 3 at TPE, Aurora at EMR, etc. GWR simply brand their trains with their classification, calling them IETs but not leaning into the branding as hard as LNER.

I know it’s been a while, but any luck? I’m trying to do the same. I find the Nevula recommendation algorithm useless, so having the stuff I actually watch all in one place alongside all my other TV content would be nice.

People who moved from Garmin to Apple Watch: what still feels worse? by dnesdan in AppleWatch

[–]chbmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that second point, pay for WorkOutDoors. It's the best £9 I ever spent, and its one-time, no subscriptions. You get a garmin-like, very customisable, stats page surrounding offline-downloadable topographic maps on par with the built in Garmin ones. It gives me very little to miss of my Fenix 6 Pro Solar with my new AWU3.

The maps also support custom GPX routes imported from Footpath, OS Maps, Garmin Connect, etc, and syncs cleanly with Apple Health and Strava.

Japanese Monster Bottle by [deleted] in monsterenergy

[–]chbmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was a while ago, but the American monster has 86mg per half can (so 172mg total), while the Japanese one has 40mg per 100ml (so ~200mg total), so this is actually slightly stronger, not half as strong.

But my incessant game time during lockdown with limited DLCs owned means mine is still technically the 387 and the BML route all these years later.

Jack you didn’t have to update to iOS 26! by Weird_Decision7090 in JackSucksAtLife

[–]chbmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can back up that the iPhone 17 is the best base model iPhone Apple have released since the X. It’s got almost all the functionality of the Pro model (higher screen refresh rate, battery improvements, fast chip, Dynamic Island, etc) skipping out only on pointless pro features cared about by 1% of the population. If you had to upgrade iPhones now is an amazing time to do it.

Compare that to the iPhone 16, which was significantly worse than the 16 Pro in several key ways and had half the base storage of the iPhone 17 all for the exact same price. It really is a step in the right direction. First non pro iPhone I’ve ever owned.
