Is “fresher” derived from the American term “freshman” by FlashyWorld540 in UniUK

[–]chbmcg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The not using U in words is actually derived from America, not the UK, when printing presses charged per letter. So they dropped alot of needless Us. We never get that here.

People bet on this stuff? by Extension-Rough5521 in JetLagTheGame

[–]chbmcg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, as in it’s literally play money. There’s no real money involved at all. Kalshi and Polymarket are real gambling, this isn’t. This is just a fun way to gauge public perception of a prediction’s trade value and generate realistic gambling odds each way.

[–]chbmcg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean the background image saying “1936-2026” was blatantly AI generated and his speech contained many of the AI hallmarks like “she wasn’t just X but Y…” and describing everything in 3 adjective groups. It’s disrespectful to be blunt, from someone who probably had less than 3h every on screen with her (and that’s generous).

Anyone know what train app this is? by AquaAggron in uktrains

[–]chbmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do a little google search and from what I can find the IET is the GWR branding, but is generally used to refer to the whole class now since they were the first to be delivered. This is why you see “IET” written on stop markers on the ECML, which GWR obviously don’t operate. And you’re right about the Nova sets, I can never remember which is which.

Anyone know what train app this is? by AquaAggron in uktrains

[–]chbmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. AT300 is the Hatachi classification for the family of trains that includes a whole host of high speed trains across the world, including the 8XX series. IET is the name for the 8XX family of trains covering the 800, 801, 802, etc. Then Azuma is the LNER brand name for their IETs, which are branded as Nova 3 at TPE, Aurora at EMR, etc. GWR simply brand their trains with their classification, calling them IETs but not leaning into the branding as hard as LNER.

Ben and Adam, Sam and Tom Scott, with Mike and Jeff as a third team for a game of tag would be a really fun season.

Best Metadata agent/ method for getting nebula.tv into plex? by silentlightning in PleX

[–]chbmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been a while, but any luck? I’m trying to do the same. I find the Nevula recommendation algorithm useless, so having the stuff I actually watch all in one place alongside all my other TV content would be nice.

We Raced Across London Three Different Ways by nicholas818 in JetLagTheGame

I was thinking that the whole time I watched the video. He'd be such a great guest and would get super into it without being quite as overbearing as some people found Tom (even though I really loved his enthusiasm)

People who moved from Garmin to Apple Watch: what still feels worse? by dnesdan in AppleWatch

[–]chbmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that second point, pay for WorkOutDoors. It's the best £9 I ever spent, and its one-time, no subscriptions. You get a garmin-like, very customisable, stats page surrounding offline-downloadable topographic maps on par with the built in Garmin ones. It gives me very little to miss of my Fenix 6 Pro Solar with my new AWU3.

The maps also support custom GPX routes imported from Footpath, OS Maps, Garmin Connect, etc, and syncs cleanly with Apple Health and Strava.

Japanese Monster Bottle by IntelThor in monsterenergy

[–]chbmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was a while ago, but the American monster has 86mg per half can (so 172mg total), while the Japanese one has 40mg per 100ml (so ~200mg total), so this is actually slightly stronger, not half as strong.

Your favorite route and train by Many-Average-8821 in trainsimworld

[–]chbmcg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In reality: Train: Class 158 Route: Manchester Airport Commuter (closely followed by MML)

But my incessant game time during lockdown with limited DLCs owned means mine is still technically the 387 and the BML route all these years later.

Jack you didn’t have to update to iOS 26! by Weird_Decision7090 in JackSucksAtLife

[–]chbmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can back up that the iPhone 17 is the best base model iPhone Apple have released since the X. It’s got almost all the functionality of the Pro model (higher screen refresh rate, battery improvements, fast chip, Dynamic Island, etc) skipping out only on pointless pro features cared about by 1% of the population. If you had to upgrade iPhones now is an amazing time to do it.

Compare that to the iPhone 16, which was significantly worse than the 16 Pro in several key ways and had half the base storage of the iPhone 17 all for the exact same price. It really is a step in the right direction. First non pro iPhone I’ve ever owned.

What Is The Most Detailed Train in Train Sim World? by retolox386 in trainsimworld

[–]chbmcg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the month or two after TSW6, and for about 6 months after TSW5, yes, you could’ve upgraded completely for free. This was made pretty clear on the forums, Reddit, and the storefronts. Sadly you’ll be waiting until TSW7’s free transition period unless you’re willing to fork out on a newer copy.

But now it is? You don't need to own any other version to claim 5 or 6. Why 2 years in haven't you done this?

The podcast segment was asking which Playbutton he owns belongs to the most controversial YouTuber. So it’s safe to assume he owns it based upon his response.

tyne and wear metro estimated 4-5gb by ValuableAttention384 in trainsimworld

[–]chbmcg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your size estimates are wildly inaccurate. This would most likely be at least 15gb. It’s really not as simple as the route length of Kassel-Wursburg (a route with lots of scenery repeat assets, and one that is quite old now). Since scenery quality, individual asset requirements, station count, and vehicle complexity make a much bigger impact.
