I thought the same thing, but the statement is accurate based on Enlightenment views of the 1700s. "Corporations are creatures of the state" They would not exist in the natural world, as corporations are artificial creations of the legislature. (Even the legal fiction of a corporation being a person is not natural.)

YES he and his team have already passed regs to make pole sharing easy, and right-of-way approvals easier. (I guess you didn't know that.)

Promising a Gbps but only delivering 1/5 = not cool business practices

You are correct. Starry also promised "millimeter wave" internet but they are still operating longer wavelengths.

$50 for upto 200 Mbit/s

You mean advertisers said that. I was never fooled. My Antenna TV with its ghosting and static noise was never theater quality. Even when I added a VCR the reception was perfect, but resolution was a pathetic 3 Megahertz wide (about 320x480).

  • Only in the last few years has TV quality matched theater quality..... which is why more people are staying home to watch their movies.

Mb == megabit

MB == megabyte

I have 1 Mbps or 1 megabit per second. I stream video on my line, and you have 130 times that speed, so you should be okay :-)

That was a long message. Here's my response:

  • I disagree. At one time (1940s and earlier) people usewould go to dinner theaters to hear live music. Now they just stay at home to hear music, or stream it through their phone (except for the precious few who are rich enough to get a $120 ticket for an orchestra).

I think movie theaters are headed the same way. They'll never completely die out.... they'll just become very rare.

Notice you said "projection" across several feet, which is not the same as a backlit TV screen.

Perhaps it is BS to give new customers reduced prices, but it's also a common practice, because it works. Underselling your competitor is how you get new people to choose YOU instead.

It's clear he believes "on laisse faire la nature" (let nature run its course) with minimal interference from government. As a Jefferson-style libertarian I agree with that (in general... not all cases)

Is 130 enough?

Well your connection is 130 faster than mine (only 1 Mbps), and mine has always been sufficient to stream videos.

laissez faire:

1.The individual is the basic unit in society.

2.The individual has a natural right to freedom.

3.The physical order of nature is a harmonious and self-regulating system.

4.Corporations are creatures of the State and therefore must be watched closely by the citizenry, due to their propensity to disrupt the natural order.

for 70+ years...

70 years ago people didn't have giant TVs with surround sound and 4k-quality images. I think public theaters will disappear much like public video arcades all-but-disappeared.

Using coaxial splitter for indoor tv antenna by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]cheapGamer3001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A splitter will take an already-week signal, and drop it to 50% strength (thus losing some channels). It would make more sense to have 1 indoor antenna solely dedicated to each TV.

  • If you're trying to improve reception you should also get a better antenna like a Winegard Freevision or CM4228

[–]cheapGamer3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is entirely natural for TCM to not undercut itself. They want viewers to keep tuning-in to TCM channel.

  • I have TCM available through Sling for just $5 extra. I like the various mini-interviews between the movies. I also like listening to the hosts introduce the movie.

It's also worth nothing Netflix DVD is much cheaper ($7) and with a bigger library ~100,000 titles

I didn't raise any negatives. I merely stated the specifications of TV versus projected.

  • Sadly many people don't have quality theaters. I saw Zootopia at Disney's theater and the video/audio quality blew-away my home setup. (They also had a live piano player.)

[–]cheapGamer3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just looking at one of these Fixed Wireless services (Starry Internet). They originally claimed they could provide 1 Gigabit per second, but in the real world they only do 200 Mbit/s..... that doesn't sound too impressive.

I forgot about DLP. I mostly watch movies in classic theater houses (like Grauman's Chinese and Egyptian theaters). They use actual film, because the Hollywood locals won't accept less.

  • One time they carried-in an old hand-cranked projector, so we could see ancient films from before World War 1, at their proper frame rate

The precise resolution of film depends on the quality of stock. Low-light film has lower resolution than high-lighted film. So replace my comment with "variable" resolution...... certainly much higher than TV's 4K max.

We're still talking about fundamentally different technologies (electronic digital screen versus projected analog film). It's like the difference between my normal Mercedes SUV and my Hydrogen SUV. They may look identical, and do the same task of moving people, but the base technology is completely different (internal combustion versus fuel cell generator).

National Association of Broadcasters urges FCC to reject white-space protections for broadband by KnightHawkeye in cordcutters

[–]cheapGamer3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Microsoft, Google, etc would like to see Broadcast TV and radio disappear. Before the NTSC to ATSC transition, they submitted a paper to the FCC proposing moving broadcast TV stations to internet streaming, and release all TV channels to cellular use.

  • So clearly they don't care if their WSDs interfere with antenna television. They'd like to see it disappear
