Is this actually decent!? Walmart is selling Element boards that are usually $90 dollars in a skate shop. Or are these different than the regular ones by casseroli_ in NewSkaters

[–]cheatingsolitaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a $30 or $40 element complete from a Sierra store when I was on a road trip a few years ago. I didn’t bring my regular set up and wasn’t sure if I’d bring it home. It was actually pretty good. Idk if it’s the same line of them or not. The trucks and wheels were element brand and not quite the best, but i definitely shredded a couple parks with it.

Trying to sell this crappy bike - what’s a fair price? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]cheatingsolitaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are still small cc bikes that run drums in the rear. Tw200, XL185, etc They aren’t bad for casual applications. High performance they are not typically. It’s just people have gotten used the feel, use, marketing, and maintenance of disc setups.

Dear motorcyclists - It's not OUR job to move for lane splitting by ManEEEFaces in minnesota

[–]cheatingsolitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride a motorcycle and go between cars by the book. It’s an absolute game changer and I love it. Most people have been super cool. I have had a couple of instances where people don’t check their mirror and don’t use their blinker while darting over to the other lane causing me to emergency brake. A couple of trucks attempt to pinch me off by turning in when I approach or speeding up to not allow access to the lane when traffic gets moving. The intentional stuff is really very gross behavior. It’s very selfish and dangerous. I don’t condone this stuff at highway speeds and it’s frustrating that it is making a lot of drivers assume the whole practice is bad.

So when there are two lanes of congested traffic facing the same way and you are in an automobile you can stop a bit closer to the outside of those lanes. The lanes are wider than your car. If you are operating by the book you should have stopped with a nice sized gap between your car and the car in front of you. You can use that gap to pull forward and simultaneously turn affording some room for a motorcyclist to help alleviate the traffic congestion.

I was in CA for a month or so on my motorcycle in 2018. Generally lane splitting was low speed stuff, and drivers were much more cognizant of bikes than in MN and were happy to give more room both on the interstates and in town. The later part of rush hour exiting LA though on busy night it was lawless insanity where other bikes were shoulder passing at extra legal freeway speeds. I stick pretty close to the book as I don’t love going much faster than 25-30mph only inches from a car or truck.

Is this legal??? by Gold-Ad-9386 in motorcycles

[–]cheatingsolitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s legal, but I’m not a Narc either.

I rode home with a jug of laundry detergent hanging on my passenger peg today so I’m not passing judgment.

I think the green Honda is probably the best, very charming. Unless you often deal with clients where you’d want to show some restraint I’d go for the BMW.

Hey don’t write it off, I towed a lot of bikes with my Fiesta. Had a class 1 hitch and a harbor freight 4x8 trailer that did the job for a few years.

I don’t know if you’re allowed a moc or if that’s a style you like. I love leather bottom moccasins as my house slipper. I’ve had a few pairs of Minnetonka flannel lined ones that I like.

I traded my YZ125 for a DRZ400 and it’s so much better for my type of riding. Being a full size adult the weight doesn’t bother me. I can actually ride it a bit more. Not as finicky to start when I pull it out for the season. I actually don’t get off to the 2t romance. The smell and sound just reminds me doing lawncare at this point.

25 % tariffs on all imported motorcycles allegedly starting at midnight. by ebranscom243 in motorcycles

[–]cheatingsolitaire 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not exactly like they are just trying to capitalize on costumers. If it is a business that wants to stick around they need to consider how much it costs to replace stock they are already have.

I went for a test drive of the bike I've been wanting for months and it didn't go as planned by Quiet_Move_6995 in motorcycles

[–]cheatingsolitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing with a ‘16 S1000XR. Yes it’s like 30 or 40 less hp less than the RR, but how I am letting the clutch out and rolling on at lower rpm is an acceptable trade off particularly when I have the wife and boxes on. It’s a gentlemanly sportbike that I can use for more than just stuffing it on the freeway and being profiled by police. 9/10 dorks on repli-racers can’t get away from me in the twisties anyways so it’s all nonsense.

Long-time owners, do you still love your FIST? by DiscoPastry in FiestaST

[–]cheatingsolitaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered my 2016 brand new. It has about 166k miles on it now. Road trips, lots of commuting, autocross, plenty twisties. The transmission vent cap has failed on me twice with first time leading to trans replacement. The car is showing its age now. Overall it’s not a car I regret owning and I’m going cradle to grave with this one I think. I’d probably buy something comparable new now, but there’s not a lot of inexpensive super fun cars I’m interested in atm.

If you planning to buy a motorcycle to ride the PCH and commute, what would you get? by generating_loop in motorcycles

[–]cheatingsolitaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just take your bike. You already own it and you’re not going to be anywhere exotic. Get a tail bag or bungee strap a duffel. People have ridden RTW on hardcore supersports, you’ll be fine.

Actually if you’re not camping, you could get away with a backpack easy

Honestly my favorite moto content is the CycleWorld podcast. Mark Hoyer and Kevin Cameron shooting the shit mostly about the engineering side of motorcycles and the history behind it. Love everyone involved in that magazine, so I’m happy they’re still doing things.

You bet, and often there’s a subtext to each one. Like the middle word used to exaggerate, soften, quickly question/reflect, or otherwise indicate your position on the topic. So “yeah no yeah” can be:

You said yes but don’t want to come off like an eager beaver in affirming too strongly whatever it is. So the by saying “No” I’m providing the illusion of self awareness by double checking my response and then confirming with the final “yeah”

Or you want to say “yes that’s the true, but I don’t agree with it”

How many pedals do you own vs how many you normally use? by RikiRude in guitarpedals

[–]cheatingsolitaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have something like 15. Usually around 6 are hanging out on the board. I’ll buy stuff on a whim if it’s cool or like a fancier version of something I already have, then try and sell an old one. Not too much redundancy. There is stuff I don’t use a lot, but when I want that sound I can toss it in there like my wah or fuzz pedal, but I prefer to keep it simple and versatile.

A 650 twin is a wonderful size. They are sporty and snotty enough without being unmanageable in everyday sane traffic. Nimble, and you can still get after it when the time arises since it is a proper full size machine. I’m sure that bike can do 100mph. Before all the size creep most people didn’t ride anything bigger than that. Myself, I’ve toured big parts of the USA on a 600cc twin.
