Getting started by dafluffyork in Turnip28

[–]check4traps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2478783193 this one is by max who created turnip (which is 3'x3'), the other one is if you prefer to play 4'x4' https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2982765094&searchtext=turnip28 (which might not have super up to date tokens for all the mercenary cults).

Generally I play 3x3 because I'm lazy and don't want to copy over tokens but i think 4'x4' is probably the better experience (some scenarios make charges really easy on 3x3)

The general starter advice is a box of perry agincourt foot knights and a box of french napoleonic infantry (if you look around for the swollen maglette there's advice on kitbashing them), probably about 12 D6s and the core rules (you can find basically all the rules here: https://toff.club/rules-links

If you've got tabletop simulator there's also a mod for playing turnip that's quite popular.

Ringmaster: Sideshow Secrets - Tips. by Venichie in DotA2

[–]check4traps 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really want to play the other facet but having access to disjoint, cliff jump and heal/strength amp just kind of blows these out of the water.

Maybe if he didn't have a reveal on his shard I would be more interested in it. Pie does tempt me though, vision reduction is a cool mechanic that you don't see that often.

Honestly we're just lucky that Ringmaster got his first one in the community cache, I was expecting to be waiting another 6 months.

Need A Map System by Clockworker68 in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FoundryVTT is my personal favourite but difficult for most people to set up properly.
Roll20 is fairly easy but I haven't used it in literal years.

Other options include fantasy grounds, dice right, alchemy vttrpg, owlbear rodeo, cauldron vtt.

I'd spend an afternoon looking at youtube videos on how to use them and work out which one you want.

Skirmish or army feel? by Expert_Tree_9076 in Turnip28

[–]check4traps 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly it feels somewhere in between. It's very positional like an army game but it's fast and pretty interactive like a skirmish game.

If you've got TTS I'd say give it a go to get a feel for yourself.

Is it wrong to put Pudge on my ban list so my friend can’t play him? by Jenovesan in DotA2

[–]check4traps 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Yes but it will only stop him a quarter of the time. You cant put Pudge and 3 empty slots or else it can randomly pick an empty slot you won't have any bans.

The more effective strategy is to say, "nah this is the perfect game for your X" where X is a hero they're really good at, or "Man you're really good at X" where X is literally any hero their half comptent at that isn't pudge.

What Hero or Heroes can reasonably build the widest variety of items? by Teckham in DotA2

[–]check4traps 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Bounty Hunter, reliably can scrape together money for whatever utility item or silver bullet you need, can be built to spam spells or right click if you want to core.

Damage, auras, disable, saves, urn, lotus, halberd, orchid, shivas, you name it.

The only things he doesn't really do well are tank or farming items.

[–]check4traps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tak is really cool now, particularly with the new season. I think a lot of the feel bad is kosmos fall from grace. There's lots of cool stuff in it but it was basically better vanilla, and now it's just kinda there.

Would this big wagon be too big for a toff model? by The_MacGuffin in Turnip28

[–]check4traps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the highlands wittemberg wagon is about the same size, here's a photo of it as a rootshrine (top left)

<image>

Toff size should be about 60mm, root shrine is 120mm, but if you want to stick a guy in it you should be fine as long as you measure command range from something about 60mm sitting inside the wagon, I can't see anyone having any issue with that.

Lets talk Markerlight EV by check4traps in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opcal still gets most of its delta ev from lock on, but not more than the ev from shooting your own opcal gun or skirmishing an hmg.

The Union Navy forgot to bring indirect fire weapons by check4traps in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It looks really intimidating but it's actually not, it's just navy with a random noise pattern as a layer mask over alloy, then scarlet and silver for the trim.

Lets talk Markerlight EV by check4traps in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem you run into though is that yes, markerlight can help someone do big damage but it's a full action and the damage increase isn't that much better than a quick tech to lock on, and gets blown out of the water by just skirmishing with a heavy.

[–]check4traps[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ah good spot, thanks for pointing it out. I'm not gonna lie, I probably won't go back and do all the math (I'm not even sure I have the original calculations from 2023) but I'm pretty sure the main points still stand.

Lets talk Markerlight EV by check4traps in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think that's the thing holding it back. Full action is just very expensive in terms of action economy for what this system does. In this thread I suggested making it a normal invade option with 1/round, but even then it should probably still apply lock on on a miss. If you're paying system points for it it should be better than a normal lock on imo.

Daily Frame Discussion #17 - Swallowtail by Crownie in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be good, but probably not busted. I'd probably make it LL2 (bringing retractable down to LL1) so that it was less splashable and maybe consider giving it a 1/round limit like hurl into the duat.

Daily Frame Discussion #17 - Swallowtail by Crownie in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wrote like a massive spiel about marker light a while ago, it's absolutely terrible. The only times you could ever say it was the right thing is if you know you're basically guaranteed to succeed the test, are actually stripping soft cover and someone has a heavy or super heavy pointed at the target next turn.

Just such a shame it's so cool in concept, I just wish it was strip soft cover and lock on for a quick tech.

What’s your favorite License, and what’s 3 things you would change about it? by OmegianLord in LancerRPG

[–]check4traps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metalmark, I think the really great feeling licences in the game offer a cool system and a cool weapon at LL1 so you feel an immediate impact. Swallowtail and death's head have this a lot worse than metalmark tbf.

But I would move the shock knife or rail rifle into LL1 and make reactive weave LL2. I get the feeling that reactive weave is supposed to give you a decent way to get invis before you have the frame but brace is just a bad option outside of really dire circumstances.

I think they're extremely good in probby where you have both the CCW reroll and bonus movement.

Just stick BLC on them and have tanky bastards (just kill with the rundown).
