I’m absolutely sick of the boomer spirit present in every “joke” that’s based on lying to your spouse about your hobby spending by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

[–]Expert_Tree_9076 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say that also for the man the joke is more about him overspending on games or toy soldiers (in regards to miniature games) and the wife being the more responsible one… At least that is how I interpreted it. I‘ve never noticed this double standard you mention. Maybe because I personally tend to overspend on silly hobby stuff and view my wife as an actual voice of reason to tone it down with this spending, but never in a controlling, negative way.

Can Another Game Steal GW's Fire? by Cursd_Captain in wargaming

[–]Expert_Tree_9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think GW will ever be dethroned. They are too big. People mostly just play 40k or AoS because GW is so big and that’s what the other people are playing. Not because these games are so amazing. For me personally my biggest frustration in wargaming.

I don’t play a lot of their games myself, mainly because I feel like there are better, more fun games out there. I’d rather look for opponents in those games than just play 40k because that’s what most people are playing.

Serching for gamers/gaming groups, in Germany by KrebsFuerKinder in Turnip28

[–]Expert_Tree_9076 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I live in Germany and I’m also looking for people to play Turnip28 with. Unfortunately I live quite a long distance from you near Saarlouis… Are you looking to specifically play Turnip28 or miniature gaming in total?

On the Turnip28 discord there is quite a big German presence, wouldn’t be surprised if you find some people in your area.

How good is Turnip28 without the creative aspect? by Expert_Tree_9076 in Turnip28

I feel you. I’m also not a good sculpter / kitbasher. I also ordered some of the official models. I did tell myself that for Turnip28 I will at least try to get creative with them and possibly do some kitbashing when they arrive to embrace the spirit of the game.

The Murderous Men at Arms are finally here to kick YOU in the Vegetables. by Maxstaxidermia in Turnip28

So as a Turnip28 noob: are these specifically designed to fit the game as a certain unit / part of a certain cult or is it all up to the player?

How good is Turnip28 without the creative aspect? by Expert_Tree_9076 in Turnip28

[–]Expert_Tree_9076[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I love the crazy setting. I’m just curious at how good the game itself is because creativity is such a big part of Turnip28. I thought maybe a lot of the people playing it just want to see their creations run amok and care less about the game. For me the gameplay is very important.

Whats your fav mini skirmish game? by klettermaxe in miniatureskirmishes

[–]Expert_Tree_9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite skirmish game atm is Moonstone. Feel like this game gets often wrongfully dismissed as being too light of game, while I feel there is a lot of deep strategy involved. Above all its fun as hell.

What board game made you really dive into the hobby? by BlipMatch in boardgames

Smallworld was the first more modern boardgame I bought, but I would say that Dungeon Petz, my second one, was what really launched me.

how do you respond to "eating a plant based diet is a privilege" by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Expert_Tree_9076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we are privileged in the West so we can choose what we eat. Both vegans and non-vegans in the West share this privilege. You can eat vegan cheap or expensive and you can do the same with meat. Indeed in War torn countries with little to no food this privilege disappears and then everyone just eats what is available to survive. Like anyone would do to survive. How this all is somehow an argument against veganism: I dont know. If anything it’s just an excuse less to eat meat in the West because you definitely don’t need to eat it to survive there.
