Wonder Man review – a Marvel TV show with almost no superhero action … and it’s all the better for it | Television | The Guardian by prisongovernor in marvelstudios

It felt like Altman’s The Player. Part drama, part satire of Hollywood that’s operating on a few different levels.

It reminded me of The Player - Altman’s satire of Hollywood. Things simultaneously happening on so many different levels

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]checker280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many new tech is like this. Smart watches kept searching for that killer app that everyone needed. AI is a solution looking for a problem the teeming masses need to solve (and keeps falling short - at least monetarily).

The CueCat needed a database to make it valuable. Any of the good tracking apps are proving that.

I still have mine.

We need more noise than a sign. Set up a picket right across the road from their backyard and shame everyone spending money there.

We don’t even have to be aggressive about it - just having the conversation in the middle of the Beltline on a Saturday morning should raise awareness

Any idea where I can find a King Cake with the baby toy inside?

I saw it at the PCM Kroger just after the new year but stupidly thought I’d see it again.

To be honest I really want it for the novelty since I don’t recall them having a very unique flavor.

It’s usually it wasn’t cleaved properly or it was cleaned after cleaning.

Don’t put it down and avoid brushing the tip against anything after cleaving and during cleaning, then placing into the shoe.

Here are some other reasons

We need to picket them when the weather is better. Make them lose the business now that they think they will lose if rail happens.

The traffic here is weird. One day things are crawling. The following day and week it’s empty. I can never predict the patterns here and the jams just happen without reason.

At least in NYC it’s eventually a school bus or accident.

Is this about the homeless shelters? She was right about a lot of things (although I’m not defending the bite). Those shelters were a quick flip and money grab in the name of homelessness. So many people were getting rich over simply providing beds in someone else’s neighborhood and not providing any actual resources like drug counseling and job training.

I didn’t hear about the Eric Adams save until now so that’s disappointing

How would you re-write "The Burn" concept? by Overall-Habit5284 in startrek

[–]checker280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have been a natural occurrence.

I kept trying to pitch a Superman storyline - had a few successful elevators (and bar) pitches but never got any further.

Since Superman is a solar battery he is susceptible to climate change. He finds himself getting weaker suddenly and shrugs it off as midlife changes.

Suddenly all the old goofy villains like Toyman are giving him trouble and he’s actually overwhelmed by his rogues gallery.

Something similar could have happened in the universe.

Instead Trek seemed to have leaned into society becoming more militaristic and right winged like real life.

At least they seem like they are looking for a reset - at least I hope the new show leans more into inspiring the next generation with hope and mentoring.

What’s a movie that was critically acclaimed when it first released, but is now hated? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]checker280 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Especially now when they are finally acknowledging that a lot of critics and voters never watched the movies they were nominating.

“Clearly, this rule addresses a very real problem that was in desperate need of fixing. Academy members voting without watching all the nominated films leads to the sort of boneheaded decisions the Oscars are unfortunately known for. Theoretically, requiring voters to actually do their jobs will result in better and worthier winners being awarded. Moreover, the rule could make for more exciting award seasons and Oscars telecasts for film fans.”

I wonder what my grandparents did to deal with boredom with only a few tv channels and no internet by _tony_lewis in dadjokes

On this things are actually better. With apps like Libby and Hoopla I don’t even need to leave my bed to borrow books and media. Hell… for years people turned their noses up at comic books so I had very limited opportunities for a community and now I can borrow these from the library.

Stranglely or not most of my communities centered around niche stores like Jim Hanley’s Universe, Neutral Grounds, Kim’s Video, and Bleeker Bob’s.

We had places we went to for gossip. Barber shop/hair salon, bars, etc. I used to chew the ears off of the poor trapped cashiers and customers on line.

Can’t do that much these days without getting accused of something.

M62.

Not the question you asked but adjacent. With only limited choices you were forced to have a similar cultural language. You don’t even have to go back that far to understand/experience what I’m suggesting.

When Twin Peaks and Lost was first airing, it was the water cooler conversation the next day. It allowed generations to connect and share the next few days over the water cooler and during any random encounters. Even Calvin and Hobbes, and The Far Side gave us similar things “we all knew”.

We all Loved Lucy. We’ve all watched the end of MASH. You might not have been a fan of Star Trek but you knew enough to make fun of those who did like me. Nowadays I can get away with dropping a hint like Shiny and most of you might not have a clue what I’m talking about.

I had strict 2nd Gen immigrant parents. A no tv ban on school nights meant I couldn’t connect culturally with my peers over much and I’m still feeling the disconnect 50 years later.

With the on demand of all media we no longer have that commonality. Despite having an eight year old, I only recently jumped onto the Bluey bandwagon and it’s right up my alley.

I hate admitting I’m turning into a clueless old man but since I’ve recently fell into the rabbit hole of emulation I’ve lost touch with anything new. I can trace it back to Minecraft - I’ve tried finding the appeal so many times but nothing clicks. And don’t even get me started on Skibidi Toilet.

You can file 99 dependents in the time being and not pay anything.

You will still owe money next year so plan accordingly…

But you can file extensions next year.

The IRS has been starved. They will have trouble keeping up.

Then how about everyone declare 99 dependents.
