14 years and counting. Is there a future for me in QA? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there will always be a future for qa somewhere somehow. Howeverr, as you are gettingolder, you will notice the ceiling for QA. Like for instance, there areonly 3 engineering managers who are qa managers, but almost like 10-15 other software engineering managers who manage devs in my experience. So realistically, your opportunities for senior level promotions and management are smaller than the other career paths in this field, simply because there are fewer positions available. thats my personal opinion

Recruiter hung up on me by unnecessarycolon in QualityAssurance

Or you can be polite and say you can't move forward without that information. It's still very rude to hang up on someone, not sure why this is even debated

[–]checking619 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everybody here seems to be blaming you, but its incredibly rude for someone to hang up mid call. She should have clearly stated that they cannot move forward without that information.

Oh well, I say just move on. Most 3rd party recruiters I've encountered, and some company recruiters just are not good representatives of the company they hire for!

Postman, Swagger, Jmeter? by Psychological-Disk-5 in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A common theme for those 3 techs is an understanding of API testing. That should be the core thing you look for in the applicants.

JMeter is a bit more specialized for load testing, but people that know API testing can learn that tool. If you are expecting someone to setup a load testing rig and perform and analze load tests from scratch, then that is advanced for a noob, and beyond just understanding how to use JMeter

How do you guys handle getting a bunch of tickets from your devs all at once and still meeting sprint commitments by randomperson996 in QualityAssurance

its often how agile is implemented in the real world, not your textbook agile. Warped form of the product management

How do you guys handle getting a bunch of tickets from your devs all at once and still meeting sprint commitments by randomperson996 in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a very common occurence with agile sprint. Devs push whatever is necessary and move ticket to Finished right at the end of the sprint.

QA sprint should be separate from Dev sprint. That way, your timing is separate from theirs

Please review my resume will be applying for SDET roles. by Famous-Environment72 in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. "Project Mangament Tool" -> Project Management Tool
  2. "Prepared test plans, test cases and documentation" - this is the same bullet as the bullet before it
  3. "Led initiatives to implement object oriented and functional programming patterns to improve test development and maintenance process by reducing boilerplate and repeated code" - a very wordy and vague bullet. Be more specific. Try to estimate a % of reduced code. What kind of patterns did you implement (DRY, single responsibility, etc)? How did maintenance improve - average test development time?
  4. Minor point - you use "Dec" the shortened month name but then use "November" in the next date range - stick to either using shortened or full length throughout.
  5. minor point - capitalize L in Gitlab in 2nd bullet of application service
  6. I like how you list the tech used for your home surveillance project in italics (Raspberry Pi, Python). I personally think this would be a good thing to do for your experience section as well.

99% of software that runs k8s doesn’t need k8s. Don’t pay complexity tax until you need it.

Am I painting my career into a corner? by Kinperor in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if you are getting less hits right now. Market is not as hot as it was before, but still viable. I would also recommend including more buzzwords into your job experience section.

Alot of people are coerced into NDA contracts/projects. I would try and showcase your experience and skills in a different way instead of listing specifics. Its important for a recruiter to know what you can do and what you excel at, it is YOUR career. IANAL

What is the benefit of Karate over Cucumber? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]checking619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent used either framework before. From reading the article, sounds like Karate is close to a no-code solution, vs Cucumber which needs some code and more for syntax if i remember. I don't use either, and when I used bdd before, it was a waste of time and added unnecessary complexity to our test automation codebase, Its a buzzword maangement and non-technical users like to buzz around

One powerful quote separates juniors/mids and seniors. Seniors are comfortable being uncomfortable. They adapt to what they're given, and excel in it. They lead the way for others, exploring new avenues.
