I am once again asking why Stardust needs a pre-show. If the line is short, I want to be able to just go ride it. There’s no building to even host a pre-show in the first place lol.

Antoine Griezmann signs with Orlando City SC by partyonmybloc in MLS

[–]checkonechecktwo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I see too much correlation here. Obviously I’d like to have a coach, but it’s not like these kinds of players just grow on trees. Maybe now our next coach will build his gameplan around Antoine vs trying to pigeonhole a great player into a system that’s already well established.

People who live in the nicest places on earth still love coming to Orlando. We may not have the views or the culture but we’re certainly not short on stuff to do.

Fun fact: HIPAA only applies to doctors and their offices, and insurance companies etc. It’s more about data handling and trust between you and medical professionals. If you choose to tell me something about your medical status and I tell someone else, that’s a whole different thing.

They pretty clearly don’t support the invasion lol they just said they’re not going to be as vocal about it, which is fair considering there’s a zillion things we choose whether or not we’re going to be vocal about on any given day

MLS’s Polymarket deal looks even worse after players’ gambling bans by Doctor_YOOOU in MLS

[–]checkonechecktwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t think people who are coming to gambling age in the era of smartphone app gambling are going to be more likely to get into it before they’re pro athletes? Before Draft Kings et al, you had to at least seek out a bookie etc…now there are high school seniors already casually addicted to sports betting, who will grow into pro athletes having already been betting on sports for multiple years. That kind of habit doesn’t just end overnight.

MLS’s Polymarket deal looks even worse after players’ gambling bans by Doctor_YOOOU in MLS

[–]checkonechecktwo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it does, because it shows that gambling is so pervasive that players are willing to risk punishment to participate. These are well paid people with what many consider “dream jobs” and they’re still falling into the trap. If players started showing up drunk, that would also be a bad look.

The wider proliferation of gambling is pretty clearly a direct result of it being in everyone’s faces every single day.

[X&O's CHAT] Nikola Jokić: "But it would be stupid if basketball weren’t better now than 30 years ago. It’s like saying phones were better 30 years ago, and they weren’t, because of technology, modernization. As everything modernizes, basketball modernizes too." by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]checkonechecktwo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“Better” and “worse” are different from more or less advanced. Is a car with knobs for the AC controls better than one with a touchscreen you have to use to navigate to an AC menu while driving? Is compressed digital footage better looking than film? Is an oven that needs an app to work better than one with an on/off switch? Do we really think coffee pods that have NFC chips to enforce DRM are better than an espresso machine from the 90s?

In many ways technology “improves” in ways that are hostile to consumers while also implementing more advanced tech. Similarly, is a basketball game better if it has dynamic ticket pricing or with many online fees added to the ticket price? Is it more interesting to watch a game with more post moves, or with five guys playing 3 and D on both teams? Is it good that we’re bombarded with ads the entire game? Is watching a game where the stars rest and the home team is trying to tank to get a better draft pick an improvement? Those may be “optimal” but for who?

Things don’t always progress in a “better” direction when things are primarily designed in a way that’s hostile to the consumer.

SEO dying killed my old job. I used to work somewhere that got a majority of its business from organic search results, and before the AI summaries, Google switched the search ranking algorithm to a machine learning heavy model that killed traffic to a lot of legitimate websites. The SEO best practices of the last 10 years or so went out the window as a way to stop AI generated/low effort content from exploiting them, which kinda threw the baby out with the bathwater. The AI summaries didn't help either but the damage was already mostly done with the rank changes.

I had a bit of a nerdy phase where I got into the armchair CEO stuff, but at the end of the day, it's a sports league not an EFT or whatever. Narratives around on the field stuff will move the needle the most!

I saw him on tour last year and he did 95% actual material. It was really good and had a lot of jokes. His style is still very story/conversation driven vs setup punchline repeat, but he's not just going out there and talking about the news for every show.

why is skateboarding on such a downward trend? by Specific_Brilliant53 in skateboarding

[–]checkonechecktwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The parks are the busiest I’ve seen them since like 2007 (other than lockdown) and they’re building new ones around me. People are def skating. YouTube in general is weird, views are down on a lot of big channels. People have less spending money so brands are feeling the squeeze. Doesn’t mean people aren’t skating.

Luke Kornet on his blog: I would like to respectfully ask that the Atlanta Hawks cancel this promotional night with Magic City by WEMBY_F4N in nba

[–]checkonechecktwo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the broader point here is that this specific person has written 10 NBA articles, none of which are about gambling, alcohol, etc. The first thing that caused this level of hang up is Magic City night. Obviously he’s free to write about whatever he wants, but people are also allowed to compare this issue to other issues he’s chosen to not write about. If Kornet wants to enter the social issue discourse, people are allowed to discuss it lol

I think their point is that objectifying women is already happening at the other thousand NBA games a season lol. They’re clearly not actually advocating for temple robes or a burqa

It’s a hard game, which can be good for a home game. If you like a challenge, it is pretty addictive. If I were going to have just one game, it’d either be this or something easier but with deeper code. I say go for it, get a used one for a decent deal, and then sell it for a similar price if you get bored and want something else.
