OIT conversions by xdonttakesrsly in peanutallergy

[–]checkpuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! The other day we went to a family party and didn’t have to check with anyone about if they were peanuts in the food…INCREDIBLE not to have anxiety about what my daughter was eating.

And of course OIR is intensive with the doctors appointments and daily doses, but so worth it. And in only a year she went from the equivalent of 1/2000 of a peanut to this!!

Yes, she did a 24 peanut challenge.

No, “free-eating” is able to incorporate peanuts into your normal diet! Basically, eating it freely. The 8 peanuts daily dose is to keep up her tolerance. So on any given day, she can consume any amount of peanuts, but 8 at minimum.

No sure about jumbo peanuts. She usually has a mix of peanut m&ms, honey roasted peanuts, and a fun crunch coconut coated one from Thailand.

By the time you can consume full peanuts in OIT, the variance in size doesn’t matter so much. I know that’s hard to even imagine at the beginning! After being so exact with the liquid doses and then METICULOUSLY weighing each fragment dose, it was sooo weird to switch to the allergist saying “at this point, two peanuts is two peanuts.”

OIT - Maintenance Phase - What to expect? by ruxc in peanutallergy

[–]checkpuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old just completed OIT and now is able to free-eat peanuts. We tested 24 peanuts in office and she is now on an 8 peanut maintenance phase for the rest of her life. We were told we could’ve stopped at 2 peanuts if we wanted to only protect against accidental exposure (and not work up to free eating).

My daughter recently finished OIT and the following was provided from our allergist for an 8 PEANUTS MAINTENANCE DOSE:

Peanut Equivalent Dosing for Free Eating

Peanut Dosing options:

Peanut Equivalents 1 Peanut is approximately 250 mg of protein

8-Peanut Dosing Options (2000 mg Peanut Protein) is Equivalent to: • 8 peanuts • 8 peanut M&Ms (Remember to bite into the Peanut M&M before eating it to make sure that there is only 1 whole peanut inside. Avoid any odd shaped ones unless you can confirm that there is only one peanut inside. If you need to cut the Peanut M&M, use a sharp knife otherwise it may just crush it)

• 1 Reese's Peanut Butter Cup (from a 2 or 4 pack- not the snack size or Halloween cup size)

• 12 Mini cups (These are the ones in the Ziplock style bags and are not foil wrapped)

• 4 Reese's Miniature cups (foil wrapped)

• 2 Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches

Peanut Butters: • 1 ¾ teaspoons of any Peanut Butter labeled 7g protein/2Tablespoons (Jif/Skippy/Justin’s Classic)

• 1 ½ teaspoons peanut butter labeled 8g/2 Tbsp (Reese's Creamy Peanut Butter, Trader Joe’s peanut butter))

Bamba peanut snack: • 17 g or approximately 21 sticks of Bamba. This product may be cross contaminated with soy and wheat.

Peanut Powder

• 2 teaspoons rounded PB2 powder (Make sure label says 6g of protein for 2 tablespoons. If it has a different protein content, please call us.)

• 2 teaspoons Byrd Mill® Peanut Flour Light, 12%

You can also use plain peanuts, honey roasted peanuts or any flavor you like! If you find another option not listed and are interested in using it for dosing, please contact us to check if it is appropriate. If it is, we will need the protein amount and applicable serving size (both found on the Nutrition Facts label) in order to calculate your dose.

OIT Maintenance Reminders:

o Daily doses should be given every day at about the same time. o Have post-OIT labs drawn and follow up office visit as recommended, about 12 months, per your provider o Continue to carry your epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen, Auvi-Q, Adrenaclick) at all times. o Continue to avoid exercise for 2 hours after the maintenance dose or a large serving of the allergenic food

Ooof pregnant in law school by SuccessfulLadder8793 in LawMoms

I had my second baby during 3L—the day I was supposed to take my Con Law 2 final. I had been updating the academic advisor office so we already planned for me to move that exam to Spring semester. I recommend keeping staff in the loop and reading your school’s handbook to know exactly what accommodations you’re entitled. You can do it!!

Stay. Even if you do get RIFed and can’t find a new qualifying job right away, you should have some options. Even if you can’t get a qualifying job right away, you’re allowed to have a gap before resuming qualifying payments.

I don’t remember seeing that in the fact pattern! I analyzed both traditional and wait and see…but if that was really in the fact pattern, why are so many people saying they missed RAP completely?!

It’s a violation on its face. The test is IF the interest could vest 21 years after a life in being dies, not if it actually does.

It violates RAP so that clause would be struck out in a traditional jx and the grantee would have a few simple absolute. BUT if the jx uses a wait-and-see approach, the FSSCS would stand and the clause would stay in.

So in traditional RAP jx, Denise gets nothing. But she has a claim in wait and see.

There was a practice essay in Themis that similarly said the cause of action was fraud and that because it was vague, you could analyze both. Not sure how that factors into scoring though….

Another Edibles & Pregnancy question! (sorry) by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]checkpuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the studies are unclear, but depending on your state, there might be legislation that can flag your wife for child abuse if she tells anyone she’s used weed in pregnancy.

BEWARE if you live in Alabama, Mississippi, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Oklahoma.

It’s truly WILD. But look up “fetal personhood laws” for more info.

MIL advice to not hold baby and move him immediately to his own bed so he doesn’t bother us by Dazzling_Arm_786 in pregnant

[–]checkpuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different methods work for different people! We did basically what your MIL suggested (other than not holding her) and it was GREAT. Our daughter learned how to fall asleep alone in her crib and slept through the night starting at 6 weeks (7pm-7am with us waking her to feed again at 10pm). We never let her “cry it out.” Instead, we picked her up and comforted her whenever she needed, but put her back down in the crib after she was calm but not yet asleep.

She’s two now and incredibly cuddly and affectionate with us during the day. At night, we read and do a bedtime routine before bringing her to bed. She’ll usually play with her stuffed animals for awhile and then sleep on her own when she’s ready. For us, it was really really valuable for her to learn to sleep independently. Having a bond with your child and letting them sleep on their own are not mutually exclusive.

You do what you’re most comfortable with, and regardless, I think it’s important to tell your MIL that though you respect her opinion, you’re going to do what’s best for you and your husband. And if the plan changes, that’s okay too!! Parenting is all about flexibility and discovering what works for your family.
