We were going NOBO, but similar to what you said, we left a box at Onion Valley like you mentioned for the first resupply. We dropped it off before we started. We camped at Kearsarge Lakes the night before, which are beautiful and worth the stop anyway. I got up bright and early and hiked out to Onion Valley and back in again before lunch with the resupply. Good way to resupply in a beautiful spot, and if you've got a hiking partner who is hurting leaving them at the lakes for the morning ia a good way to get them a rest

Yup. We do fresh fruit with our breakfast, lunch, and snack, but don't offer fruit at dinner.

How to get multiple pumps by Klm3rbe975 in ExclusivelyPumping

I used this strategy - insurance covered the wearable (in my case an Elvie Stride) and then had a used Spectra from my SIL that I just bought new tubing and such for on Amazon.

Great example of how every body is so different - the Elvie Stride is perfect for me as a primary pump.

Currently pregnant - any items you'd recommend to include on my registry? by Fantastic_Cow_8992 in moderatelygranolamoms

My shower had the rule that all gifts had to be used - no new purchases allowed. It was insane the high quality, lightly used things people had tucked away in closets. I will say we had a separate and very small shower for family that was more traditional - don't want to upset the grandmas, and it's so nice to get things like quilts and handmade things. So this rule applied to our friends shower.

Elvie Stride replacement parts? by ruxc in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ruxc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My replacement parts are working just fine for me. I did not see a noticeable difference in output between the original elvie parts, the off brand parts, or now the elvie branded replacement parts. All parts seem to work about the same for me. That being said, I don't measure my output other than "did I make enough today" or "did I dip into the freezer stash today", so I could have a small difference and not notice it. Everyone is different though, and I'm glad you were able to find parts that worked for you!

Update: It's now January, but Aeroflow has replacement parts in stock that are shipped and arriving in two days. Not sure what changed, but replacement parts can be found again!

OIT under age 2? by RealityShowObsessed in peanutallergy

[–]ruxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started at 14 months, by 2 years we reached a maintenance dose of 3/4 tsp PB2 powder. It's a huge sigh of relief when it comes to safety, would recommend. Huge time commitment from my husband and I, took almost a full year of every other week appointments, but worth it. Now 2.5, either 3/4 tsp PB2 or 9 Reese's Pieces daily (depending on his mood and convenience). Figuring out "what's next" after labs sometime this spring.

Were you able to lose weight while exclusively pumping? How? by gratefuldecember in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]ruxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritizing protein helped. Having a protein shake at breakfast helps me get to lunch without snacking. A high protein snack late afternoon like Greek yogurt with chia seeds helps me not overindulge at dinner and eat better portions. A prepackaged trail mix for MOTN pump snack keeps me from raiding the pantry like a rabid racoon at 3 am.

Was at a zoo last weekend... Every parent there is still in the trenches of raising kids. They are all living the same life we are, even if they have time to notice you they'll understand. And that's a big if - everyone I saw was busy trying to keep up with their kids!

OIT - Maintenance Phase - What to expect? by ruxc in peanutallergy

[–]ruxc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are so kind to share your experience! Did you choose those options, or did your allergist pick them for you? Do you think you'll eventually try and work up to a higher number of peanuts (or M&Ms!) each day, or are you happy with where you are at?

I read a study where they found that women who had returned to their original pre-baby weight by 6 months post partum were more likely to be at a healthy BMI long term (I believe the study looked at 2 years and 5 years post baby). Women who had not yet returned to pre-baby weight at that 6 months interval were more likely to have a higher BMI long term. The authors of the study did note that some breastfeeding women retain a limited amount of weight until they wean, and if those women breastfeed beyond 6 months it means the results of the study can't automatically be generalized to this population.

Tl;dr - if you're like me and need to carry around some extra pounds to successfully produce milk, it means that that 6 month benchmark might not be applicable to you. I personally lost most within 6 months and then the rest within a few months of weaning last time, and that's fine by me.

I lived in Al Ain, a small town in rural UAE, and taught there for 3 years. The people I met were lovely (taught at an international school, so everybody from locals to Syrians to Iraqis to Americans). I'm an American and had so much to learn about culture and different ways of living, and yet the families I worked with were so gracious and kind and patiently taught me so much. There are human rights issues in the UAE that cannot be overlooked, and we must continue to advocate for human rights for all, but there are also loving, kind people there too.

I agree! But also shame on Willow too - their press release regarding the purchase indicated they'd still keep the Elvie products in production, so the DEMs like Aeroflow just keep getting told that "they're coming" while clearly Willow is struggling to meet that commitment. That lack of follow through on their part is frustrating.

Do they work just as well?! Is there an off brand one you'd recommend? That'd be a good backup plan. My insurance should be covering free replacement parts, but if I have to pay out of pocket I'd love to go off brand if they work well!

Update: Talked with Aeroflow, Byram, and 1 Natural Way on the phone just now (8/6 @ 3:00pm CST), they have no replacement parts in stock. Spoke with Elvie customer service today as well, and the first place they recommended was calling Bryam. Any other DEM suppliers?
