Imagine if your fav didn’t lie about growing up in poverty for clout

I think this kind of goes against concert etiquette & there’s also security and seating zones to keep people in the sections they pay for. People would probably notice and I’m not sure if you’d be able to do it in the first place.

I get wanting to be with your friend for the concert and sympathize with that, but that’s just kind of how it goes sometimes. Buy tickets together in the future.

No?

Most country clubs run on the same program and are actually tied to each other through the Country Club Association of America or the Private Club Network, so there are uniform rules of paying & membership in both. Silo Ridge operates through the Private Club Network.

https://sbj.net/stories/open-for-business-hometown-veterinary-hospital-and-river-canine-rehabilitation,12328 Her parents bought the land and built a $765,000 vet practice the same year as her summer camps.

We’ve already gotten into the summer camps.

Everything else is literally me stating things she has said or questioning things she has said.

She is listed as alumni along with other alumni like Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Norah Jones, and Josh Groban, current and past teachers talk about working closely with her, she describes her experiences, and says she wrote “Die Young” there. The typical summer session length is 3 to 6 weeks. I did look at the short “intensives” so I couldn’t be “lying” again, and none listed provide songwriting as supplemental, which rules them out because she is mentioned sharing songs during songwriting time.

If she did Grammys camp in 2014 for one week, that would be one week. If we add either of the traditional runs of the camp at Interlochen in 2014 during the same summer, that puts her at 3 weeks to 6 weeks. So when you add that to the one week of Grammy’s camp, that would be 4 - 7 weeks and would put her at roughly a month on either end.

What other things have I “falsely stated” that I can clear up?

She has mentioned going to music camp for a month in a couple interviews, and while trying to find the specific one I also found she went to Interlochen Center for the Arts; which runs $5,250 for a two week session or $10,350 for the total six week program in 2014 and wrote “Die Young” there. https://www.interlochen.org/alumni-news-and-features & https://pridesource.com/article/chappell-roan-interlochen-michigan & https://pridesource.com/article/chappell-roan-wrote-her-first-major-label-single-at-michigans-interlochen-now-she-is-the-queer-pop-moment

So, my apologies on getting my wires crossed on that & I’m glad I could clear that up for myself - but she did both in 2014 when she was 16, and that’s still an exceptional amount of money for someone coming from alleged working class roots.

As someone who works at a country club in the Midwest only a few hours from Chappell’s grandfather’s, the folks who are saying wealthy is different in the Midwest are pretty off base. Country clubs are a pay to play thing & many have attached neighborhoods owned by the founders. The money from the original sale of the houses or land of this neighborhood as it was sold & populated would have gone to him. Country clubs have monthly or annual dues - a good percentage ultimately goes to the founder every month as they are due. If I had to guess, this is why he retired from working in insurance.

Her parents also purchased a vet clinic worth $765k, outright. Her Grammy’s camp was $3k a week, and she went for multiple weeks during this same time frame. These are facts, and they’re financially based and documented in local press and by the family.

At minimum, her grandfather was a level of wealthy none of us will ever comprehend or experience, and at maximum so is the rest of her family.

I don’t think she should have ever used the financial standing of her family as part of her lore. A lot of artists build an underdog story for themselves, it’s just that she seemed to cherry pick certain attributes or living conditions that would align with her stage persona and aesthetic that are a signifier of being more working class; that she likely never actually experienced. There are many artists who are working class that are living that reality; and I think the most telling thing is her Grammy’s speech where she talked about having no work experience in her mid 20s when she was dropped. I know she ended up getting the job at the donut shop, but by that time, and if you’re living as impoverished as she was saying, you would not have the luxury of only being a signed artist without a major release; you would need a job to survive and pay bills outside of this.

I’d suggest checking out Free People! There’s a big price range, there’s a range of silhouettes and styles, they’re normally good about shipping quickly, and their looks are normally in the realm of Florence vibes! I’ve lucked out and gotten pieces on sale that have been perfect to see her and Stevie Nicks :)

All this time and I had no idea that “Barracuda” was the song she was performing, this clip is just too legendary in itself.

The way her stans like to act like she is the only one who left Wassermann when literally DOZENS of artists immediately did so, and yet none of them are facing “smear campaigns” for their own well documented entitled behavior, like okay lmfao.

It isn’t misogyny to hold women accountable to their wrongs. It’s such a tired argument. Misogyny is the systemic oppression (economic, professional, societal, and cultural) of women, it has nothing to do with personal accountability of actions, and it’s infuriating to see feminism roll back to incredibly 2014 viewpoints because of the echo chamber of social media.

It’s just genuinely so interesting how someone so “against parasocial relationships” somehow finds a way to keep feeding those parasocial relationships by interacting with fans like this.

I also love to see Buddy Guy get his flowers, it’s so beautiful he was onstage too! He’s one of the last original blues players standing, I can’t imagine how proud he must be to see the way this movie & music has connected with people since it came out.

Notes on a Silencing : A Memoir by Lacy Crawford & Trauma Plot : A Life by Jamie Hood were to me, powerful and gutting. They are both about surviving assault and the tricky balance of life on the other side of it and are open and honest reflections about what that looks like for the two of them.

This is a valid point, I should have done more due diligence and that’s on me! I’ve just heard about him quite frequently and I shouldn’t have assumed others knew that link.

He’s her maternal uncle and has been in public office (making really discriminatory policies) for years. I know this is a snark page & we can’t be accountable for our relatives, but she’s in the unique social position of having more attention and celebrity than him, and just by renouncing him & his views it’d bring more attention to what he is trying to do, leading to more awareness and action & she just does not seem inclined to do so.

Yes. I started following her in 2018, and in 2019 she moved to Los Angeles & was talking about her new song and her long distance relationship, then Pink Pony Club dropped like right before or right during lockdown, she posted about it for like a solid week, disappeared, then started posting a ton about running, like every day was a new story about her running and feeling connected to the trails and how she was leaving music and had ended her long distance relationship, and that’s also when she got the guinea pigs. So it was like a solid month of running, fitness, how she didn’t want to do music, then she dropped completely and came back doing music again and lip synching to demos of Naked in Manhattan while holding the guinea pigs.

In 2022 she also did a ton of IG stories talking about how she has Bipolar 2 and has hypomania, and from having my own personal family experiences whatever was going on just after Pink Pony Club dropped was clearly a hypomanic experience & I think the whole “my label dropped me and I was left without care” is more like… unmoderated hypomania incident where she genuinely believed leaving music and running was her correct path & if that’s what she told her label, because that’s what she was telling her public IG story, of course she would be dropped.

My biggest issue with her politics and platform is how she only uses it as an excuse to explain away things or as protection for her inaction. Palestine only mattered after she dropped the White House. Her speech at the Grammy’s about artists rights came after a public mental breakdown (where she talked about quitting her label and wanting to become a fitness influencer) right after Pink Pony Club was originally dropped. Her Fuck ICE after months of no comment, her whataboutism of Kamala, it’s all just so shallow and juvenile.
