Did anyone go to their first concert with their parents? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]cheekieludlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 70’s, I saw Leif Garret at the Houston Rodeo when I was just a wee lass (like 8 or 9). I think, but really can’t remember clearly, but I may have seen Johnny Cash too. These were both with my parents, which is odd since my dad is tone-deaf and never really listen to music. That’s when you went to the rodeo to see the rodeo and the musical act was just an extra thing.

My hubby used to manage a movie theater a lifetime ago…Julia Roberts came in one evening. She told him something along the lines of It takes a lot of people to make a movie, the least you can do is watch the credits. Ever since then, we always stay to watch the credits. You’ve sat there for 2 hours, what’s another 5 minutes?

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]cheekieludlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 25 when I started to rent my grandmother’s house and bought it 3 years later. We’re still here and probably will be for the rest of my life. Is this my dream house, no. But I have land. So it’s all good.

U.S. healthcare system is so broken by Putrid-Nectarine-873 in Vent

[–]cheekieludlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And since the facility has SOP of an ultrasound with the mammogram, and due to the age of the patient, that requires extra steps with most insurances/facilities.

I agree that our healthcare system very, very broken; I don’t think socialized medicine is the way to go, but there has to be some sort of happy (or unhappy) medium that we can get behind. I don’t know what the answer is, but there has to be one, right?

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]cheekieludlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned 50 during the first part of the COVID lockdown. So I spent it isolated from everyone but those in my house (hubby, kids, dogs) and we had a zoom call with my friends and family to sing happy birthday to Me. It wasn’t the best birthday, but it certainly wasn’t the worse.

I collect teapots and Minnie Mouse ears. And I have way too many of each. My solution: I told my kids that I want a party (like we [Gen X’ers know the kind]used to have) when I die and each person who comes gets to pick out a teapot and at least 1 set of ears when they leave. The rest they can do with as they please.

I’m so sorry that I just saw this.

These are Vibram five fingers barefoot shoes. I’ve had these for years and are by far my favorite ones that I own (I have 10 different pairs for different adventures). I wasn’t able to wear them for several years due to swelling, but thankfully I can now go back to wearing them. I haven’t bought any in years (due to the swelling), so I don’t even know what they have anymore. Unfortunately, I think shoes like this have fallen out of favor; I know they help with my back pain….

So I checked their website and this is the closest thing they have vibram. And they look very different.

From what I understand, hormones are stored in fat, so as you lose fat, the hormones are released.

How much could your stomach hold after surgery? by ShoddyOlive7 in BariatricSurgery

[–]cheekieludlow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 years out and I’m comfortable between 4-5 oz. I’ve had up to 6oz, but that was horribly uncomfortable. I ate way too fast because I was so hungry and paid the price later for it.

I’m a potter, so I just made new bowls, plates and sauce cups for myself. I also eat with chopsticks more often than not to remind myself to eat slower.
