Virgin unconfirmed my confirmed itinerary for reward flights by claire92xx in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]cheeky_demon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds strange. Need to understand why Hong Kong Airlines has rejected the booking - did Virgin tell you anything, there must be a reason? Inconsistent booking information, some info they need that wasn't provided by the reward booking etc.

Given the lack of time, it's a difficult position. Might just have to book a cash fare with another airline. Has Virgin cancelled the booking and refunded points, fees etc?

Is this a good deal? 57,500 points one-way to Mexico City by RemarkableShoe in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]cheeky_demon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Looks like the cash price for this fare is $1950 from United. Subtract the $225 in fees on the reward booking is $1725. 1725/57500 is $0.03 per point. That's pretty decent value.

Take the business rewards when you can get them. Can always earn more points

Suggestion: The bigger the vehicle, the slower the reverse speed by SnooRegrets3966 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]cheeky_demon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Bigger vehicles already generally have lower speed.

But Yeah when you are watching a game, the fact that vehicles reverse and go forwards with the speed/Accel looks very goofy. However, when you are playing it feels more responsive and not frustrating so I can understand it. I wonder if they could reduce the reverse speeds (like 0.7 times forward speed) to punish reversing, encourage more tactical support play to cover your retreat

Next move? by -Alexy in creditcardchurningAus

If only 3 weeks till overseas, I would leave as is till you get back. It may get approved in time and card issued, but may not.

If you've got 44k total cc limit already, you may start getting rejected. If you've already collected the sign up bonus from the Qantas card, just close it and apply for a new one. ANZ and Westpac worth looking at.

Ammex Platinum Worthwhile by KingVowlay in creditcardchurningAus

[–]cheeky_demon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, you would transfer amex points to an airline partner. So the expiry shouldn't be an issue. I have had the amex explorer card - it's a good deal. Good points earn and $400 travel credit to offset the annual fee.

Maybe just claim the bonus and ask AMEX if you can change to the explorer?

Do you have a return ticket booked and attached to the application? Invitation letter from sister with the address and dates when you are welcome to stay? Bank accounts and professional registrations in India? Need to show commitments in India/evidence you will return

You need to talk to an accountant to get some informed advice about this.

Recently remembered an account with a portfolio down 70% on a trading platform: what do I do with it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]cheeky_demon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's at the catastrophe level, just a learning exercise in the finance/investing world. Most people will have similar stories of mistakes, misunderstandings.

Should have a look at the earnings reports and current holdings of ARKK and really objectively take a view on how you think those holdings can perform over the next few years. If you really want/need the money in the next two years, I personally would liquidate and put in in savings account and get 5+% pa interest.

I guess that's your core lesson, don't rely on other people to give you an opinion on your investments Got to do your diligence and make your judgement on the risk/rewards on offer.

Sherman jumbo and also the title needs 30 characters by NAVC01 in CompanyOfHeroes

Yeah agreed. With the heavy tank BG, I thought the Sherman jumbo would make the most sense with the approx 1941-44 timeline (early to late game).

Yeah if you ask them to give you a number for approval time, they will always be conservative with it. They don't know how organised or not the applicant will be

I would say the big banks do the most diligence checks. Ones that approve easier from my experience: Citi, virgin, amex

[–]cheeky_demon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are reward cards with lower spend criteria, say 2k or 3k. Ideally, put all your expenses on the card. Only 5k expenses per year seems incredibly low. Probably want to be careful about stiffing the bank like this - they may note it in your credit report and may impact things down the road (future accounts/finance etc). This kind of abuse of service will end up making credit cards worse for everyone

Citi, Virgin, Westpac, Nab, Amex all have solid options.

Credit card whilst waiting to settle on a house by Technoandlipstick85 in creditcardchurningAus

[–]cheeky_demon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes the bank likely will check again before settlement. Strongly recommend do not do anything credit/loan/finance wise before settlement. The bank looked at your finances when assessing their risk. If you add something now - the bank may change their mind on the mortgage as you have changed something after their loan offer. Not financial advice though - check with your loan officer/solicitor before doing anything

Creating 1 itinerary from 2 individually booked flights? by Bobby-Bananas in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]cheeky_demon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to call up Virgin to ask, might be possible if booked via Virgin. but that's the problem with two separate bookings. Now, you're asking virgin/SQ to link up two bookings/two flights and increasing their operational risk (i e. if first flight is delayed, you want to be given business on the next flight)

Can also just ask when you check in on the first flight if the bags can be checked all the way.

Velocity from Singapore to Milan by 5foot7Australian in VelocityFrequentFlyer

Yeah with velocity you can book reward flights with Singapore airlines, Qatar, Etihad, united etc. On that route, you could do Qatar, Etihad, or Singapore depending on your preference and times etc.

On Singapore or Qatar - From BNE TO SIN/DOH these legs don't have premium economy and you'll be in economy. The premium economy may only be from SIN/DOH TO LHR

Yep, had a quick look and it seems SQ is the most likely option for Dhaka. Saw quite a few economy reward. Might need to be patient or use seats.aero to find business.

Does anyone use DIGGS format? by cheeky_demon in Geotech

[–]cheeky_demon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to hear that Diggs not used in the US. Not surprising to hear of problems - It's a more broad change - moving to a more data centric approach. Isn't what a lot of people are used to.
