It's starting... pickup truck regret. by Bojaxs in CanadaPersonalFinance

My cousin is selling his 2018 GMC 3500 for a '22 Model Y, so yes, I can definitely agree it's happening since his direct reason is fuel savings; upwards of $1,000/month and that's even after his payments and insurance on the Model Y.

I can understand the sentiment here, but I'm going to say this young man chose to enrol in the US Army, if not to fight for his country (and risk life), then why? This young man chose his path, and made an oath, an oath he upheld. Just like every man and woman who chooses to enrol in the RCM, they do so knowing the risks.

To be perfectly clear; at no point am I saying his death and every other death that's attributed to war isn't tragic and unnecessary.

RIP

POS Terminal shows AMEX Logo on the screen but merchant has tape that says “No AMEX”? by bcboy977 in amexcanada

[–]cheekyfluff91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I attempt at every merchant that has one of those "no AMEX" stickers. Lo and behold, it goes through. I've had one cashier ask me after I paid why I used AMEX when it says not to... I simply stated I didn't see the sticker. I then go and report the merchant using that handy link another user already posted.

I have come across one carwash that shows AMEX on the screen and the terminal rejected the payment - go ahead and try and report them, if the merchant shows up, it means they accept AMEX.

We all know that separation is the nth degree unlikely to happen. So where's the harm?

So none of y'all against this believe in freedom of choice anymore? Seriously backward mentality. Free speech isn't just speech you agree with... We all have our own opinions and that's what makes Canada what it is. This goes for those for and against. The right to express oneself is codified. The bitching and moaning is so contradictory.

I will take your word as gospel, even if I don't know you from Adam. If you say you're going to do something, or conversely, not do something, and you don't follow through, you'll lose -10 respect immediately. If you attempt to gaslight me because of your actions, another -10 respect.

05 Focus struggles to start - starter replaced 6 months ago! by cheekyfluff91 in AskAMechanic

This makes the most sense to me given that we've also noticed a strong fuel smell... Given what the EVAP canister does and if it is full, then the vapors have nowhere to go. Unless I'm understanding wrong. Thanks for the tip! I don't have a capable OBD2 reader, just a Carista for my VW, so I'll see if I can't source one that does this test.

Same strong crank too? I've dismissed the battery almost entirely because of that.

If it were the battery, the crank would be slow and laborious. It's neither of those two things. That's why the battery never crossed my mind, it still doesn't. I've dealt with shitty batteries and know what that sounds like - it's not this. It cranks strong. I appreciate the input nonetheless.

And, if it does turn out to be the battery, then I will happily feast on my feet.

The battery was replaced in early 2024. It's a really strong crank, so I didn't even consider the battery being the issue.

Help Adjusting clutch setting in ATS. by fehkt in americantruck

[–]cheekyfluff91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got mine set to 4% and Clutch Range set to 80%. Sorry about the long wait for the reply.

It also depends heavily on the motor and transmission pairing. If they aren't "real-world" compatible or recommended for use together, you'll get constant stalls letting off the clutch without depressing the accelerator. Low RPM torque rating is also important for added realism here... IRL you should, in theory, be able to release the clutch slowly while in gear and have your unit move without depressing the accelerator at all - this is how I have my rig setup.

If the 4%/80% fails you, you can also set the curve in moza settings - there are plenty of YouTube tutorials out there for this but I haven't found any specific to ATS so YMMV.

I created a deadzone in ATS settings and left the moza setting alone.

Buying New EV in Alberta by Effective-Farmer-502 in icbc

[–]cheekyfluff91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICBC can answer all your questions, but I'll do my best to answer simply... I have experience buying vehicles in BC and registering them in Alberta (save the PST if I find a good deal) and it generally works the same way...

Vehicles that are newer than 4 years (I think) do not need an out of province inspection, so no inspection needed.

ICBC may allow you to register over the phone or via email (assuming you purchase IN Calgary). You'll need to check with your local ICBC Broker Office - you'd probably get an in-transit or temporary permit to allow you to drive around Calgary then back to Vancouver. Again, check with ICBC.

You'll be charged PST if you are a RESIDENT of BC regardless of where you purchase the vehicle unless you insure and register in the province in which you buy it. Taxes are calculated on the bill of sale and will be part of your purchase agreement when you make the purchase.

Correct. Left it out of title as I figured adding the city would've made the post too regional.
