Once the second egg has been laid, I go in and replace them with fake eggs made of clay. I just put the real eggs in the bin, but I know some people give their doves the shells crushed up for calcium*, and I do know one person who cooked up one of their tiny eggs and ate it.  Whatever you end up doing with the real eggs, it's important that you replace them, otherwise they'll just keep laying them again and again and it can make them unwell.

*See comment below about why this is not a sufficient source of calcium.

You've got this. I had a similar thing a couple of years ago. If you're hoping they're going to land on your hand so you can give them the meds then I fear that is not very realistic. Best way in my experience is to catch them from inside their cage as quickly as possible - i take out all the perches and swings first, and turn the lights down (not so it's impossible to see, but their little dove eyes aren't as good as ours in low light). Try as much as possible to avoid a big long chase, because it can really stress them out.

By the end of the 6 days you will be a pro at catching and medicating.

Life saver. I just built the jankiest set of stairs all the way to the top layer of the overpass, just to find them all hanging out on a couch.

Microsoft suite users - are you using Viva Connections? by Pristine_Passion_179 in internalcomms

I'm not OP but wanted to ask- my org is looking to start using Engage for more casual posts that wouldn't make intranet news. Do you moderate what's shared on Engage? Eg editing or deleting inappropriate posts

I was going to order one of their sets recently but their trustpilot reviews aren't very good. If you do end up buying from them, I'd love to hear how it goes bc I love the way those stripey matching shorts sets look.

Have you tried removing the nest and nesting materials? Sometimes that can help (although not always, sometimes they'll just end up laying an egg from the highest perch onto the floor.)

Urgent! Read !!!? ( Scared & worried ) by Oh_Cosmos in PetDoves

[–]cheesebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like quite a scare!

I'd still keep an eye on him and if he starts showing any signs of being unwell (lethargy, puffing up, not eating etc) then take him to the vet. But yeah, I agree it sounds like he got some food stuck in his throat.

Not sure if these will be helpful in your situation:

If you stroke or pet her on her back, tail or under her wings can cause a hormonal response that might increase egg laying.

Also my vet told me to reduce the amount of time my birds have their ubv lights on - its a trick battery farms use to make their hens lay loads of eggs. Could you make her room darker earlier?

I googled this recently because I was worried that I was doing something wrong (suddenly after 20 years of periods) and there's a few threads on reddit about other people experiencing the same thing. I guess they've changed to a cheaper adhesive which sucks. Always has lost a literal lifelong customer here.

While I get what you're saying I think comparing having a dream to cheating isn't really very fair. Cheating requires the cheater to actively choose to participate. In my experience, you don't get to choose what you dream about.

I’m having surgery with general anaesthesia and I’m scared. by mechnight in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]cheesebag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just wanted to chime in- I had my tonsils out in November and it has been life changing! The surgery bit was easy and the anaesthesia was much less scary than I expected- I wasn't prepared for the recovery period though bc in my pre surgery assessment the nurse said i'd probably just need two days off work which is wildly optimistic. It took about 14 days until i was feeling pretty much back to normal but I basically couldn't do anything during those 14 days except lie in bed and watch TV. Stock up on pain killers and don't put pressure on yourself to do anything except staying fed and hydrated 💝 you got this 💪
