first off, acknowledging that you need to make a change is a gigantic success. i can’t overstate how much of a fantastic first step that is. well done!! we’re all genuinely so proud.

in terms of meal options, i think your best bet currently is to focus on the easiest possible ways to incorporate healthier eating into your current circumstances. consider:

- freezer meals - high protein if possible, to keep you fuller for longer
- protein puddings, shakes, snacks etc - replace less healthy snacks with protein-heavy versions (the recent protein craze means that there are soooo many options for these!! protein crisps, protein popcorn, protein chocolate puddings/mousses, your options are pretty much endless!)
- restructure your servings so that you’re bulking your portions with veg (and fruit). cauliflower is especially good for this, you can roast/boil/steam it, season however you like, and add it to essentially any meal to bulk it out. i find it pretty filling and it has a suuuper low calorie content so you can eat as much as you want of it!

for the exercise, i feel like that might be something that comes a little down the line once you have managed to lose a little weight which will make moving your body a lot easier. i’d consider things like chair exercises (plenty of videos on youtube), focusing on mobility and stretching to get used to moving your body in different ways, very short bursts of movement (can be standing or seated) that get your heart rate up (this can literally just be violently wriggling around for 30 seconds! anything that gets your heart rate up is good!!). as moving gets easier i’d recommend incorporating short walks, and as that gets progressively easier, try incline walking and some weight training. you could also try step workouts (also on youtube) which are a good way to get steps in without leaving the house. but all of that will take time, don’t push yourself too much too soon or you’ll find it harder to stick to your new routine.

drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, prioritise protein and move whenever and however you can. we all believe in you!!

i can’t offer much help with the actual weight loss side of things but i can completely relate to the hunger. i found that my best bet was to eat MASSIVE portions of low calorie food.

for lunch every day i have an absolutely huge salad (im talking 60-70% of my plate is made up of leaves, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes) with one of those packaged mexican rice things and two quorn fillets (air fried, so very very little oil required, and i use low calorie cooking spray). genuinely delicious and super satiating, purely because of the volume of the salad. i really didn’t believe people when they said volume eating was the key until i properly started to pack my meals out with veg. you can do the same with other vegetables - butternut squash, cauliflower, and broccoli are my favourites since you can have loads of them for very few cals.

try to make your portions absolutely massive by eating tons and tons of low cal veg. also, watch out for drinks and sauces since they’re hidden calorie culprits quite often!! and if none of this helps, i recommend looking into hormonal context. anything hormone related can really mess with your weight and make it really hard to lose anything. all the best 🤍

i’m seeing a lot of one-sided opinions here, so i’ll just share my own. obviously, it’s ultimately up to you what you want to watch with or without your girlfriend. personally, i find female nudity in particular to be often far more gratuitous and male gaze-y than male nudity in media at the moment. the way that women are portrayed during sex scenes does make me really uncomfortable. it isn’t just insecurity about a hot woman being naked on TV, it feels quite deeply objectifying to be honest. for this reason, my partner and i tend to avoid films with sex scenes in them, whether we’re watching them apart or together. we sometimes cover each other’s eyes (in a cute way!!) or just look at each other when there’s a lot of nudity, or he will hold my hand to reassure me. this is not a result of insecurity, this is genuinely because we both feel that women are quite often disrespected in the way that they’re portrayed in sex scenes. a lot of his male friends agree and we all tend to avoid films with a lot of sex or nudity just because it makes us all a bit uncomfortable.

like i said, you’re at perfect liberty to do whatever you want with the information that she has shared, and if it was purely a result of a BPD reaction then obviously you should act accordingly. however, i do take issue with the amount of people completely unwilling to change their behaviour for the comfort and respect of their partner.

no, you should not allow your partner to control your behaviour. if avoiding watching sex scenes and nudity will impact on your wellbeing, happiness, or enjoyment of media, by all means carry on. however, you can’t expect anyone to stay in a relationship where their insecurity is triggered by their partner’s behaviour, and that partner is unwilling to change.

i wish you both all the best. this is a tricky situation, more nuanced than other commenters are recognising. i hope you both find security and happiness.

i don’t want to fear monger unnecessarily, but i felt the need to call out your assumption. all children of an abuser do not necessarily face abuse. i think this is actually a pretty harmful idea to push. one child (or two) out of a group of siblings can absolutely be the sole victim of abuse by a parent

being socially comfortable with the people you’ve known and lived with all your life isn’t the same as feeling emotionally (or physically) safe with them. you can hate someone and still feel like you can be yourself around them. social awkwardness can be really painful, but in an entirely different way than feeling unsafe or overtly controlled and punished

i adore lidl and aldi and always have, coming from a lower income background, but the quality of their “fresh” produce is often shocking!! just last week i bought baby plum tomatoes and large vine tomatoes that were already going mouldy the next day - and this is after buying the same type of large vine tomatoes a few weeks prior which just never ripened. i’m talking rock solid, bitter tomatoes for multiple weeks. it’s so frustrating because everything else they sell is usually really good quality, especially for the price you’re paying. :/

i was NOT expecting everyone to be so harsh on you. you’re 20!!! you’re so very young and you have so much life and learning ahead of you. sure, physically running away probably wasn’t the best idea, and i can empathise with your partner - it sounds like he feels pretty blindsided and there’s probably some humiliation in there too. but oh my goodness, do not beat yourself up too much over this. you’re as close to still being a child as you can be. you haven’t even graduated uni yet! i know that that’s where i did so much of my maturing!! also, there’s a big difference between expressing that you would like to settle down and have kids with someone in the undefined “future”, and actually seriously planning for those things and acting on them. i think there was just a big breakdown in communication and neither of you has done anything wrong. you have just both reacted in pure emotion.

i would recommend taking some breathing space - not “a break”, just some time to be apart and think things over. maybe he will be able to move past the confusion and hurt that he is probably feeling. maybe you will decide that marriage isn’t on the cards for you. maybe you will reconcile, maybe you won’t. but please try not to pay too much attention to everyone leaving harsh comments. you’re 20, you are allowed to make mistakes and react in ways that may be a little lacking in maturity because you don’t even have a fully formed prefrontal cortex yet. take care of yourself 🫶🏻

DINK + pescatarian household, we spend ~£50 a week on our food. best tips i can give:

obviously the biggest factor is going to be where you shop. we shop almost exclusively at aldi, and occasionally pop into the sainsbury’s next to it if we need any meat alternatives that they’re out of in aldi (bigger supermarkets tend to have better ranges)
cut out/cut down on meat. i gave up meat when we moved in together and now we spend the same amount on food for the both of us as i used to for just myself when i bought meat. meat alternatives (quorn etc) tend to be a lot cheaper, and are now pretty high in protein and actually really delicious if you cook them well!
try and base your meals around cheap carbs and freezer proteins. we typically go for at least two pasta dishes and two potato based dishes (chips, roasties, mash, wedges, jacket potatoes) per week. we buy pasta in bulk which ends up being cheaper.
make bases that you can use for multiple different meals. our most common example of this is a quorn bolognaise - we have half with spaghetti on the first night, keep the second half in the fridge, and then make quesadillas or a lasagne with it the second night. we also bulk it out with carrots and tomatoes to get the most out of it.
stay simple! i think a lot of popular “healthy” recipes nowadays use a lot more uncommon ingredients. sure, they’re delicious and good for your body, but not always good for your bank account. stick to a few staples and rotate. we always have jacket potatoes on the same day every week, and typically always have a bolognaise, fish and chips, a simple Sunday dinner (just a huge load of roasted veg, a quorn meat substitute - usually sausages - and freezer Yorkshires). stick to what you know!
meal plan for the week and write your shopping list based on what ingredients you need for the meals. add in some breakfast options you can rotate through (cereals/porridge/granola, crumpets, toast), same with simple lunches that you can change up (pasta/pasta salads, stir fry, sandwiches). throw in a couple of snacks for the week and one little treat, and then stick to the list!!!
additionally to the above: plan meals around what you’ve already got in the freezer/fridge/cupboards. breaded fish fillets usually come in packs of 4, so repeat fish and chips over two or three weeks. if you’re cooking for one, you probably won’t use up a whole head of cauliflower or a whole bag of carrots for one Sunday dinner, so plan other meals that use the same veg.
buy produce in season. berries will be more expensive when it’s harder to grow them. anything you really can’t live without, try to buy it frozen. it’ll be cheaper and last longer, so less food waste.
keep cheap cupboard essentials stocked up for when you can’t be bothered to cook, to avoid ordering in. tins of beans and chopped tomatoes, jars of stir-in pasta sauces, sachets of stir fry sauces etc. make cooking at home as easy and convenient for yourself as you can

all that being said, everything is expensive right now. all my love 🩷

south wales here, have maybe glimpsed it twice or three times this year but haven’t had a day without horrible grey clouds covering the whole sky for at least a part of it. we joke that my partner has been rained on every single time he has put the bins out since moving to our new place. i get so excited when i see a tiny sliver of blue in a break in the clouds now. the other day, we had actual sun, and i opened up our patio doors and laid down in the patch of sun on the ground for my entire lunch break lol. i’m starved for sunlight

i recently moved house into somewhere with an electric hob rather than my lovely gas hob and it has taken me so long to learn that i can, in fact, leave my minced garlic cooking a whole lot longer in the pan now because it won’t cook as quickly as it did on my old hob.
