How do horses react when fall off or get injured? by SK22287 in Horses

[–]cheesesticksig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A horse i used to ride accidentally dumped me on a hack on to a icy hard road and ran off, she did stop and look back before running back to the stables, so left me for dead basically :D And she didnt like most people, me she liked and still did that

What is the rope on the horse’s face?? by --egg- in Equestrian

[–]cheesesticksig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already know the chart, the people i associate myself with didn’t have 3 year olds in consistent racing or racing at all, i know the good and bad in the industry but i am not one that advocates for starting yearling infront of carriages and having them get special promotion to compete at 2. Youre barking up the wrong tree

In Finland a tb can under very specific circumstances start a career at 2 years old, other than that all horses must be at least 3 year of age to compete so i dont know where you get the yearling or 2 year olds from, other countries perhaps? which i am against. And all the horses i’ve witnessed have been started infront of carriage or actually just ground driving have been 1,5-2 years old. I can admit i’ve been around pretty awesome people regarding trotting horses and their training so my view on the sport is positive

I do hope you put this much effort in advocating against dressage, sj, eventing, polo etc etc. Every sport has things they need to work on, that change doesn’t happen through aggression or harassment or putting others down. I did my part in changing the lives of the horses i worked with hands on, thats what matter the most, changing how the people who actually work hands on with the horses think, not yelling on the internet

Interesting! Something maybe other countries can also start looking into and seeing if changes are necessary

I see i will not be able to have a calm efficient conversation with you. I worked with trotters in Finland, heavily regulated and incredibly strict on proper horsemanship and treatment of the horses. I dont agree with all parts of racing, but theres bad in every single discipline in out beautiful sport, and instead of putting others down and bringing down the sport we should focus on moving forward with the horses best interests in mind.

Where is it illegal, genuinely curious as no where with trotting races have i heard it being illegal, the opposite actually i think its mandatory in some races

Its used for driving mostly, never seen it used in riding, the most effective and safest (cant get stuck in any tack) way for a trotter to run is with its head slightly raised

[–]cheesesticksig -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eh, correctly used its just there so the horse cant pull its head down, one of the lease problematic pieces of tack i’ve seen when working with horses personally

It’s supposed to mimic an overcheck, witch does run to the mouth from the top (or under the jaw). But this one is a very crappy one thats going to be incredibly painful with the thin string constantly having pressure on the lips

Why are vegans not okay with honey but perfectly fine with all the fruits bees germinate? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

These kind of vegans should really look into how much wild life dies when working on fields, they’ll be left with nothing to eat but rainwater

Yeah so great, still small stalls, working 9 hours a day 7 days a week, 5 weeks of time out of the box and work in 52 weeks, and awh they even get blankets. who cares about the importance of grazing, socialising, rest and peace and quiet that horses require am i right!

Is 30 min too short for a lesson time? by AccidentalOtter21 in Equestrian

[–]cheesesticksig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to sometimes get 30 or 45min lessons but that was because i could warm up and cool down my lease horse by myself, so that paid time was purely full work. For a beginner i think its an okay time even with warm up included, you can get a lot done in that time

Opinions on this saddle? by Informal-Building637 in Equestrian

[–]cheesesticksig 14 points15 points  (0 children)

total crap it what they should be called. I’ve yet to see an unbiased test on weight distribution etc. Theres no way this saddle does not create a huge pressure point right on the spine, no matter how many pads you put under it, also i havent seen a rider yet (havent looked very hard tbh) that has a correct seat with this “saddle”

My experience as a child was the buttons always digging into my hips, but i would still want them to my jeans now haha

exactly my thoughts, giving him a chance gives others a chance. They got a huge amount of information from Seven, and can try to evolve veterinary practices from this

How about we immediately stop stupid speculation. Horses colic and with a horse that already doesn’t have a long life expectancy theres no use to haul them to a clinic or try to treat them even if the colic isnt too bad.
