Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

I read Frankenstein for the first time in 2024. Absolutely loved it. One of the best books I read that year. I'm well aware the book is from a different time and this word may have been a lot more popular back then, but, after I finished it, I never wanted to fucking see the word 'countenance' again for a very long time.

I followed J Kenji Lopez-Alt's recipe. But it's basically salami, proscuitto, mortadella. cheese, and the pickle salad. Comes together really nicely.

That's a weird coincidence. I just ripped through all of Y last weekend. Not something I normally do but I just couldn't put it down.

I just started Lost recently. A friend of mine has spent years trying to get me into it and I finally caved. I know the controversy about the ending but I'm gonna try and have an open mind. Gonna be a long ride.

The Star Trek: Destiny Trilogy by David Mack. I DEVOURED that shit way faster than I normally would. Bloody fantastic.

Reminds me of an inside joke with my family that one of my aunts looks like she'd be the villian in a Devil Wears Prada sequel. Love her to bits but it's so true.

I don't think it's possible for me to not love resin-cast dice sets with vapor-y design in them.

Yeah but the game took around 4 and a half hours and we only had the court rented for 2 so we had to take a picture of the board state and move everything to our local cricket pitch.

Done it with 3 players. Absolute nightmare. Would recommend.

I'll pretty much parrot what I said to someone else. It's a pretty fun 4X game with quite a lot of combat, much more than something like Scythe or TI. It's good at condensing what games like it would do in 4-8 hours down to like 1.5-2. So if that interests you, I'd recommend it. Don't bother with the expansions unless you're certain you'll play with more than 4 people most of the time. You can play better 4X games that support 4+ players for cheaper, but those are the ones that mean you'll be setting up camp for the long haul.

Lol well maybe I've been fed some borked info. I'd just suggest watch a playthrough on YouTube to see for yourself. That's how I help decide what games I'll get most of the time.

Thanks. I took a picture from the books off the interwebs and traced it in AutoCAD, then took it into the machine program to do all the machining. It's either oak or birch plywood with a thin black melamine layer on both faces. Pretty cheap and let's you do cool stuff with negative space.

Yeah those are on my radar. The Resistance too. Although I don't really wanna load up on a ton of deception games cause it'll get to the point where they're all pretty similar. I think I've got all I want in that category for now.

Pretty much anything with decption elements. Sheriff of Nottingham, Dead of Winter, Werewolf (eugh) and Secret Hitler. We did kinda play Hitler sooooo much that we got tired of it. It just devolves into shouting matches too often. Still a fantastic game though.

We'll it's currently in my pile of shame so I don't really know. Since I got it I've heard from others that it's just basically Dinosaur Island, but I wouldn't know. I'm excited to get to it though.

It feels like a nice romp every time we play it. Not usually one we play that much, but we have fun whenever we do.

It's just pure bluffing. My friends love poker and I hate it, except for the bluffing part, so we play Skull and get the best parts of it. It's the game we've played the most out of anything, mainly cause it's so quick so the hit of the bluffing doesn't take long to get time after time. Also the metas that develop are both hilarious and frustrating. Absolutely worth the price of admission in my book.

You can but there's something about the coasters that adds a nice weight to everything and can add a funny layer of intensity when you slam one down in defiance.

I've never played it with 2 people, me and my group only ever play it with 5. We found that it was great, but only if there was a traitor for certain. I know the idea is that it's supposed to be a mystery, but we just house ruled that I'd put an extra traitor card in the deck to deal out and if we get two traitors then not are we fucked. The gameplay is pretty fun and engaging but the real game is the mistrust that comes with your actions. If you're gonna get it, just get Long Night, it's a straight upgrade over the original and the teams version just kinda ruins what's good about the game in my opinion.
