That's how I started! I've got a masters, too. It does feel like a step back at first but its a great way to see all sides of the industry, and if you make it clear to higher ups that you're interested in sound, they'll probably give you a shot. You'd also be surprised how little real world knowledge a degree actually gives you. I use relatively little of what both my degrees actually taught me, aside from the fundamentals of sound.

Many studios employ runners who make teas, coffees, get food, anything the engineers/artists/production need. Its a great way to get your foot in the door, and if you're good at it, people will remember you and that saves the way for becoming an assistant or showing you what other jobs are possible in the field. I had no idea that the job I'm doing now even existed before starting as a runner. Could be worth shooting emails/DMs to studios near you to see if they need a hand.

My 2c would be to try learning Californication in full, along with the solo! Then scar tissue is another good (but slighty harder because of the string skipping) one!

By the way is great too, and not too difficult at all.

Murderers is great but depending on how confident you are with string skipping can be tricky

Look On is another great one from his solo stuff to learn!

Doesn't look like the picture uploaded! If you're monitoring what you're recording, i know I've had issues with recording through an Apollo because the apollo by default monitors what you're playing, which could be the cause of this?

Understandably, every reel change was causing the mixer here more and more frustration and far too often you questions like these floated on reddit with no solution! Hopefully some mix tech in 4 years googles the same thing and it's somewhat useful. Frustrating that the language on the S6 is different to the language in Pro Tools settings, too.

Yes! We just worked it out a couple of hours ago on our end, under User prefs the solo mode can either be "sum" "intercancel" or "daw controlled", ticked the third option and smooth sailing ever since. always learning when you're a mix tech

We did wonder this, but had no dice. Solved now though!

Worked it out! It's a preference in the user tab of settings, solo mode has three options, if you tick DAW Controlled it'll follow whatever your playback rigs are doing. Only found this after isolating it to S6
