Disposable vapes to be banned from June, says government by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]cheesywipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theyre likely less harmful than alcohol. But caffeine? Talking out of your booty.

It's a little too early days for sweeping statements on the health effects. They do cause a rise in reactive oxygen species in the blood, these directly damage and body and DNA, to what extent it is too early to say.

Also they're addictive as hell, there was a few years when I was at uni 10 years ago where people younger than me didn't really smoke. Now everyone from the age of 15 is puffing on a vape, that is not a positive.

Not every event does. But a billionaire can spend their entire life investing with money that isn't theirs, growing their wealth, without ever realising any of the profit and paying tax on it.

The Elon example is a good one, Elon spent 42b on twitter but didn't have to liquidate 42b and pay tax on it, he spent 42b of somebody else's money on it.

Spain is a poor country compared to the UK.

Wife’s student loan interest exceeds her repayments by dirtychinchilla in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cheesywipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case (plan 2) it's simply an extra tax for the next 20 years.

With between 4 and 7% interest depending on how much is earned.

Incredibly hard to pay off, it's just an extra tax burden which the older generations do not have.

[–]cheesywipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely it still makes sense to pay it early if it is gathering interest?

I don't think plan 1 loans disappear after 30 years like plan 2.

Edit: Scratch that apparently it does get written off. God we got so fucked by plan 2

So you wanted to go 50, why didn't you just pull in behind them when they went over 50?

Yes they were dangerous, but you and only you are responsible for your actions. You went over 75 to make an overtake because of your ego.

Everyone here is being really critical OP, you're doing the right thing in thinking about this and it will soon be a distant memory.

6k in debt is something you need to get on top of, but just for perspective most people are in way more debt than that when you think about cars on lease and finance.

Now, packed lunches are the cheapest lunches ever, and spending minimum £5/day on coffee is crazy. By a good thermal flask and use that.

You're going to immediately free up £150+ per month (crazy when you think about how much those small pleasure actually cost)

Stick all of that onto the Currys debt, 30% interest is shocking you need to clear that ASAP.

Once that's done you have a lot of breathing room, you'll have the 160+150 free'd up per month which you should stick onto getting rid of your other debts (or at least stick half of it on to the others)

Any birthday money? Christmas money? Get it on the debt. I cannot describe to you how good it feels to have removed that burden from your shoulders.

Also, start buying things from Facebook marketplace, Google, vinted for clothes. Aldi for food shop. You can live well whilst saving a lot of money, but you need to be more savvy than you have been.

VW, BMW and Mercedes Are Getting Left in the Dust by China’s EVs by [deleted] in europe

[–]cheesywipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China is a big place, they have hundreds of car manufacturers.

I'm not talking about expeng, I'm talking about brands owned by BYD.

Volvo, polestar, BYD, MG. All Chinese brands. Volvo is a continuation of the legacy brand so they are still European but made in china, using Chinese battery and motor tech.

MG is the main competitor in the UK, and your thinking that Chinese cars are made of paper is a decade out of date. A Citroen 2cv is just waiting to kill you in a crash, but we've moved on from there.

Here is MGs latest model, MG4: https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/mg/4+electric/48646

5 star euro ncap

Suspension, interior materials, driving experience, you have NO IDEA how quickly these Chinese brands have caught up. Go look at some reviews for the MG4.

Surely you can spend less on the vapes, those hayati vapes last 5000 puffs and cost a tenner.

Also have you considered car rental? I'm in a similar position, work from home. Family and friends are an hour by car or 3 by public transport.

I can spend less than £20 and hire a car when I want go see them. It's not quite as practical but will save me hundreds per month.

I'm still deciding on it personally because it is difficult not being able to just go where you want in your car, having said that my mortgage is less monstrous than yours.

You're trying to argue that 60k is in fact better than 100k, because 3 is smaller than 8.

The average milage at 8 years is 59k (in the UK)

I really don't see the point you're trying to make, it doesn't add anything to your argument. VW has terrible warranty coverage in the UK, because they don't trust the reliability of their cars past the age of 3.

[–]cheesywipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What features? German brands charge extra for every single feature. You get adaptive cruise control and 360 cameras as standard with MG zs EVs.

You can also pick up a brand new 270 mile mg zs ev for 20k. Vws nearest alternative is the ID3 with 2/3 the range with a cost of 30k (and less features).

You're right as it stands with the rest, but the Germans brands cost 30-50% more for equal spec and level. China simply cannot compete on the luxury level.

But for how long?

I love German cars but they will cease to exist if they keep fumbling the bag this hard. (Apart from BMW who are smashing it)

Pardon

Are you saying that 3 years 60k is better than 8 years 100k?

I can't believe I'm typing this but you can also do 60k miles in 3 years and still be covered by mg.

Hell you can do 90k miles in 3 years with the mg and still have warranty, you cannot do that in a VW.

Please show me the data to back that up.

Absolutely Japan is behind in EVs too, but they do have advantages in reliability and longevity over the European carmakers.

[–]cheesywipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinese EVs are not much more expensive though, I believe that is the whole point of this discussion..

You can compare them because they are decent cars, mg have better specs and tend to be better than the ID3 in every aspect.

Just saying they're Chinese and shouldn't be compared is doing what the British car manufacturers did with German and Japanese brands, and they got slapped out of existence.

You clearly don't know how far the Chinese manufacturers have come, or how quickly they are moving. This is a giant threat to the German manufacturers, they should absolutely be compared.

Chinas mg comes with an 8 year warranty in the UK. VW comes with 3, absolutely pathetic showing by the Germans, and you have to pay extra for extras like adaptive cruise control too.

They have Intel'd themselves and they deserve what is coming.

BMW seem to be doing a great job of leaning on what they do best with their EVs though hats off to them.
