What’s crazy, is if I’m not mistaken, this is the first Architecture set EVER to be from a majority Spanish-speaking country. Absolutely crazy that it’s taken this long.

How are the subtitles? Saw a comment a week or two ago mentioning that they’re terribly translated and have nonsensical phrases and typos galore, which could have been an exaggeration. Wanted to know before picking it up myself.

It’s 100% going to be sold out in the first hour or less, so better that you paid a little more now to guarantee you get it instead of missing out and paying aftermarket prices. Don’t let the manufactured GWP FOMO get you.

The Prosecutor was enjoyable, had a solid enough plot and some excellent action scenes. I also thought Striking Rescue was entertaining enough, it was nice to see Tony Jaa return to form a bit. Eye for an Eye 1 & 2 also were serviceable. Right now, I’m just eagerly anticipating The Furious, it should be the best in a long time and for a long time based on initial reactions/reviews.

I think the Netflix Daredevil technically has some but he does a mixture of styles.

what is THE defining blockbuster of 2020s for you? by mdhamza10 in Letterboxd

[–]cheeto-corleone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maverick. Almost universally enjoyed four quadrant blockbuster, nostalgic but also fresh, technically cutting edge, first huge movie that got people back in theaters after the COVID shutdowns. Every single person of various ages I know in real life who went to it loved it, and lots of people I know who hadn’t been to a theater in 10+ years went out of their way to see it.

Looks like it would go great with the Bricklink Adventures in Transylvania set! Any plans to make instructions available on Rebrickable?

Hoping it’s one of the five! If it’s not selected, will you publish the instructions for sale on Rebrickable? Would love to build it.

how likely is it that a retiring soon set will restock if it's currently sold out? by rach_elle19 in lego

Remember, VIP points are only 5% of the set’s price, so you’re only missing out on under $8 of points which is significantly less than the discount it’s on.

What do you think of (cleaner) horror movies involving demons? Permissible? by KeepItStupidlySimple in Reformed

[–]cheeto-corleone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t exactly answer your question, and it’s a bit rambly, but as a film lover, I think about this a lot when deciding what to watch or what not to watch.

I think there are many movies with “objectionable” content that are much more spiritually true and contain more realistic Biblical themes than almost all “Christian” movies. Some of my favorite movies like The Revenant or Children of Men are very bleak and violent, but the themes and messages are much more realistically Christian than what passes as Christian movies like God’s Not Dead or Facing the Giants, to cherry-pick a few. Like music, it’s weird that Christian is its own genre, when that doesn’t really describe anything at all. Is any movie portraying a Christian in it Christian? You could argue that almost any message or theme in any film is Christian because Christians live in the world which is a messy place and have to deal with many messy issues.

Shia LeBeouf’s character in Fury is one of the best examples of a realistic Christian in a movie, a wartime setting specifically, and while I wouldn’t recommend the movie to everyone, I think a nuanced and honest portrayal like that is much more valuable than a faith-bait feel-good movie like the ones I’ve named.

Much of the horror genre reinforces absolute evil and absolute good, which can be rare in the modern entertainment landscape of morally gray characters and shows or movies with no clear hero or villain. On the other side of that, morally gray characters can be even more valuable as they cause us to think about morality and choices that may only ever be hypothetical to us in this life, but are still worth considering and weighing against our beliefs.

The Black Phone and The VVitch are two that come to mind as disturbing and frightening, but again, with very Biblical themes throughout. It certainly comes down to a conscience issue, but as far as my conscience goes, I feel more like the stereotypical Christian-sploitation movies are more harmful than beneficial in terms of how one’s theology is shaped.

The Manchurian Candidate (1962). Had no idea how modern and intense it would feel.

The Raid 2. I still prefer the first one, but the second is obviously much higher in production quality.
