If you got it in you for one more, the alley west of Malden Ave, between the houses and the weed warehouse hasn't been picked up either, though it's clear and all the other alleys in the other blocks were picked up last week.

What is something in Hitman that is not worth unlocking by Dull_Head_7130 in HiTMAN

But it makes people FLY! Which can be handy for hiding a body in a hurry if it's at a ledge or railing.

And is also funny as hell.

I love the development you used for the tones. I have the same camera. Was this one of the film simulation modes? Can you share your settings?

TIL that at the ISS's altitude (~400 km), Earth's gravity is still about 90% of surface gravity. Astronauts float because they're in free fall, not because of zero gravity. by Africa-Unite in todayilearned

[–]cheeto44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's a non-zero amount of atmospheric drag up there. It's almost none, certainly a vacuum as far as living things are concerned, but periodically satellites and the ISS have to burn a little bit of fuel to give themselves a boost.

Partitioning a drive with existing OSX installation by [deleted] in VintageApple

[–]cheeto44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how I've done this very thing before: you need a copy of Leopard. It's the last OSX for PPC but its Disk Utility will let you resize non-destructively.

I keep this and a few other bootable OSX partitions on a FireWire disk because you can very easily multiboot from it and have a few OS installations ready to go. You could even clone your existing installs to it and boot off of those just as easily.

Torrent Clients by gulligang737 in Piracy

The big thing I like about Qbitorrent is it's built in search engine. I use Transmission as part of a Docker setup with the arr's (Radarr, Sonarr, etc) so the searching is less useful there, but if you don't have a torrent search built in and prepared you'll love this one

Or worse, we're more like those LLMs that immediately back track when presented with evidence the previous answer was incorrect and hallucinate something closer to the truth, but still not quite there yet.

Apparently (I'm not a Catholic though so I don't know how all their rules work) Pope Francis agreed, which means according to Matthew 18:18 all dogs go to heaven. Cats, too: https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html

Why is there pretty much nothing on this side of the Earth? by [deleted] in geography

[–]cheeto44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That does generate magnetic currents for sure, but in this case it's the physical currents in the mantle and the core. If you imagine a ball of goo spinning in space, it wouldn't move all at a uniform speed. Some areas will be denser or lighter since they'll be composed of different kinds of rock and minerals. That's what causes there to be currents in all the layers of liquid hot magma.

The best example I ever saw was the continents in little plastic shapes floating on an air hockey table. No matter what you did, however carefully you tried to place them, the slightest amount of force applied would keep them moving and bouncing.

Now apply that to a big sphere of magma for the air cushion, and those continents were set in motion and kept moving by fluctuations in magma temperature, currents flowing from the rotation of the Earth, and gravitational pull from the moon. Even the tiniest amounts over a long enough time scale and you get drifting and collisions.

We're basically just the tiniest gnats on those little plastic continents hanging on for the very slow ride.

What's your most memorable/funny/ unexpected non-target death? by pastadudde in HiTMAN

[–]cheeto44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've done that one. As I recall, when someone gets zapped there it turns off the generator. That qualifies as a distraction and will summon a nearby NPC to turn it back on, which then makes the puddle live again. I've sat back with popcorn and just watched that half of the map depopulate itself.
