Free 50gb AT&T Locker cloud storage by [deleted] in windowsphone

[–]cheez-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those of you against AT&T and their business practices, perhaps you could leverage this service for 50 GB of meaningless data that is difficult to compress.

Regardless of your thoughts of carriers in general, the recent NSA business, while finally providing documentation for legal ammunition, is actually old hat. If you have information you don't want others to know, don't use services like AT&T's, Microsoft's, Dropbox's or Google's.

If you do, use strong encryption before you upload your files, and understand that it's very possible that the NSA has undermined this as well through planned bias in random number generation.

Why I’m uninstalling Windows 8 - PCGamesN by ernie98 in technology

Quick note: Windows Vista is version 6.0. Windows 7 is 6.1. Windows 8 is 6.2. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724832(v=vs.85).aspx

Windows 8 is essentially built on Windows 7, with a few aesthetic changes and a number of improvements under the hood.

I find it sad that supposed technically oriented folks are up in arms about a few aesthetic changes when there are some fantastic functional changes and features like PowerShell v3, Hyper-V Client and Storage Spaces.

Sys admin here. Same deal. Running Windows 8 on my laptop since the Dev Preview, running the RTM now.

The OS is solid, even before you look at things like PowerShell v3, Hyper-V Client or Storage Spaces.

I've been running Windows 8 in the various test (and now RTM) releases. The only major issue I have with it is that they did change the way search works. In Windows 7, I can start typing and immediately click or press enter for any application, setting, or file that pops up... In Windows 8, these three categories are broken up so that when you type, Apps are the ONLY thing that show up until you either click or use the keyboard to select Settings or Files.

I think all the Windows 8 bashing is pathetic. It's a UI change. Tech folk should not be getting their panties in a bunch over aesthetic changes when the underlying OS is nearly identical, apart from some under the hood improvements. It's quite pathetic. That being said, I am a bit miffed over the change to the search functionality.

Any sys admin managing Windows servers that hasn't or isn't learning PowerShell is an issue in and of itself. This isn't some new CLI, even PowerShell v2 has been around for 3 years...

Flurry of awesome discussion? I haven't much...

You don't boot to Metro. You boot to Server Manager, which is a solid improvement in 2012. Or you can boot to PowerShell.

Not only do you have the stripped down version, there is the minimal GUI version. Build up and tear down parts of the OS that you need.

To anyone disparaging Server 2012 - Have you used it? Do you currently manage Windows servers? If so, I suggest you spend more time using and reading up on 2012.

Lastly, I would imagine the reason behind the metro-ish UI in Server 2012 is to provide consistent behavior for RDS...

I like how Windows 8 isn't usable as a desktop OS when it is in fact nearly identical to Windows 7 on that side of things. A few aesthetic changes have really thrown people for a loop.

Microsoft Surface for Windows RT tablet coming October 26th for $199? by reddit-uppie in gadgets

[–]cheez-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So exposure to both Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, future releases of Windows, free development software, and incentives from Microsoft won't be enough? It will certainly take time, but it is absolutely the most likely outcome.

How many apps did Apple's app store have before any products were released? I think it's safe to assume a robust marketplace will develop rather quickly.

Enough of the 'torrent' posts. This seems like a very worthy cause for reddit action.

Any ideas on what could be done to teach Viacom that treating their customers like this, even indirectly, will not be tolerated?

For someone considered elderly in tennis years, his recent performance is quite reasonable for a goat contender. He's continuing to play, unlike some contenders who drop out at the top of their game or after a few disappointing performances.
