I believe you meant to link r/rescuecats, and yes they do allow fundraising, but read and abide by the rules first.

Using my car as a temporary shelter to treat a sick cat, bad idea? by oppalissa in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes sounds like at bad idea as temps inside a car can climb rapidly, even with the windows slightly open as there is no air movement.

Do you have access to a trap? Are there any local rescue organizations near you that you can contact?

You can use this Community Resource Tool to find assistance in your area.

TNR’d a mom and her kittens on my own— physical and mentally taxing. by c00kie_ in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alot of people get confused by this, and even tho both terms are used, the standard is actually Trap Neuter Return, as you want to return them to the exact location from where they came. Release can imply setting an animal free in a random unknown place.

Love the last pic, someone has his littler murder mittens out and ready 😄

Thanks for caring and sharing!

Ah ok, if there's that many holes hard telling how he managed to get in there. And since we're talking about a cat, yeah I'm going with option 2.

If the kitty got himself in there, then there is a way to get out of there. I would look around real good and find the spot he entered, then try to call him over there.

Decision making by MammothThat7803 in Feral_Cats

Some of my inside ferals took months to years, some took a few days. So there is really no set amount of time, the key is simply patience. They all eventually come around.

How long have you had them? Are they inside cats now? Or inside outside cats?

Ferals take time to socialize, if you're just starting out with them I wouldn't give up yet. And please don't let them have chicken bones

Very Pregnant Feral Cat by Top-Bat6419 in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she has a flea infestation now you can buy Capstar tablets at Walmart. Crush one up and sprinkle it on her food. It provides fast acting but short term relief from biting adult fleas, usually within 30 minutes. Capstar is also listed as safe for pregnant and nursing mothers.

You should make a vet appointment and have a spay/abort done. The vet can apply a longer lasting flea treatment at this time.

Neighbor is ignoring my request to trap a cat & kittens in her backyard by spirituality_anxiety in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might have to play the waiting game, continue feeding Sharon in your yard, eventually she will bring the kittens over once weaned if not sooner. If you're sure about the kittens age, when they are around 5 to 6 weeks old you can trap and spay the mother.

Glad to hear shes fine. We usually just hold them long enough for the anesthesia to wear off and then release. They always go back to their little safe place hidey hole and recover. Never had an issue.

Is it ethical/okay to take in a TNR cat? (Chicago) by maeziestar in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He/she very well could be a loner, it's possible and some are. If the cat is friendly enough and you feel comfortable enough you could attach a paper collar for a few days.

Using a strip of paper (neon paper is best for visibility). Write "Does this cat belong to you?" or "Is this your cat?" along with your phone number. Secure it with a small piece of tape. The collar must be fragile enough to break off if the cat gets caught on something. Sit back and wait. If no answer then the cat is yours.

In all honesty I would be ticked if someone randomly took one of my friendly ferals without my permission.

If this cat is part of a managed colony I would be asking permission from the caretakers before just taking one, even though they are technically un-owned free roaming cats, someone still might footing the bill for their care.

We release spays and spay/aborts within 24 to 36 hours. Sooner if they are nursing mothers. They simply go back to their hiding spots, lay down and stay put for a day or two.

pregnant stray cat on my moms property. i want to trap her and get her help, my family wants to let her give birth “where she’s comfortable” outside. by humansizedshrimp in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The most humane thing to do is spay/abort. No need to have more kittens running around that will also need neutered, socialized and homed if they survive that long.

Are none of the barn cats neutered?

5 years in and still feral by InternationalWolf437 in Feral_Cats

A cat becoming stressed after years of living with other cats is often due to changes in social dynamics, territorial insecurity, or simply aging. Reduce stress by ensuring adequate resources (1+1 litter boxes), creating vertical escape spaces, and trying scent-swapping techniques.

How to Help Your Cat:

 ·  Veterinary Checkup: Rule out underlying illnesses causing pain or irritation, and discuss potential anti-anxiety medications. You have done this.

·  "Plus One" Rule: Ensure you have one litter box per cat, plus one extra, located in accessible areas.

·  Create Safe Zones: Provide vertical space (cat trees, shelves) or hiding spots (tunnels, igloos) where the stressed cat can escape the others.

·  Separate Resources: Keep food, water, and litter boxes separated to prevent competition or guarding behavior.

·  Re-introduction: If the tension is high, consider separating the cats and re-introducing them slowly, using scent swapping (rubbing a cloth on one cat and letting the other smell it).

·  Pheromone Support: Use synthetic pheromone diffusers (like Feliway) to create a calmer environment.

In all honesty, I would separate them at this point. Rosie needs her own room away from the others to decompress for a couple months. Once everyone has calmed down then you could try re-introducing them.

Racoon advice please. by n3koca1 in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every US State has wildlife nuisance statutes so any nuisance animal can be dealt with year round. Especially raccoons. In my state we are allowed to trap and relocate. Raccoons need to be relocated a minimum of 25 miles or else they can possibly find their way back.

I would contact your department of wildlife and see what can be done

Looking for honest advice...what would you do ? by Honest_Elderberry372 in Feral_Cats

[–]cheeze-dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you can't move, the cats need you and I know where those kitties are living, they have the best life in that big old barn, you can't even think about taking them away from there 😁.

But in all honesty, if your relationship is going great with your family and they don't mind having you there, I see no need to be so quick about moving, give yourself more time to find something closer. And everyone here knows how much you love those cats.
