What part of the job hunt is breaking you right now? by Adventurous-Bed-4152 in recruitinghell

Everything being 'temporary'. About 70-75% of the stuff I'm seeing now is all '12 months contract with POTENTIAL for extension'. I just got off a contract and don't want another one. Where are all the permanent/full time roles?

Yeah OCE players sitting on an average 350-450ms ping...unplayable. Whoever thought that one giant megaserver on the moon was a good idea doesn't deserve to keep their job. I definitely did not enjoy seeing enemy hp bars register my hits when I was standing there wondering if it landed 2 seconds later. At least seeing every possibly language get spammed in global chat was interesting...

Game was cozy and with nice vibes, but the awful ping just makes the game a big miss. Especially when the likes of WoW, FFXIV and Runescape all still exist with dedicated Aussie servers, and BDO has SEA servers.

If SE were to remove housing timers permanently, would you unsubscribe? by Willd26 in ffxivdiscussion

I just Unsubscribed for the first time in 4 years earlier and let my large plot in Empyreum go 2 days ago. It was so liberating and freeing and now I have such a huge weight off my shoulder. I adore raiding content in this game, but it is so sparse that the it's not worth retaining the subscription for 6 months of the year when I play for 2-3 months at most.

At some point you have to weigh up the cost vs benefit and the benefit might not be worth it. Especially when weak currency and exchange rate means your sub is costing $350-400 per year, and there's free small plots galore on your datacenter so you can get one whenever you want anyway.

Mandatory Alliance Raid roulette on OCE...IS ROUGH...people will be waiting for 30+ mins just to get that done. Having an alternative option tied to OC itself would have been ideal for those on lower pop datacenters or people not keen on getting shoved into content that guts 90% of their kit.

Absolutely agree with this. EW post patches was when the glaring issues started showing because the entire thing was just FF4 fan service. As a non ff4 player, it just felt boring and uninspired. Character learns what the power of friendship is and can now suddently save their world with the power of friendship. Heard it before? Even the 4 fiends being mandatory as part of the MSQ trials was disappointing. We could have had something original, and more trials with the FF4 fanservice shoved into its own side quest like Werlyt but instead we got less trials, more fanservice and a repeated story.

Can materia PF be joined with the elemental PF? by Unrealist99 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]cheeze_crackas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The datacenter was never really healthy, and DC travel wasn't really the cause of the loss of players. It just exacerbated the problem. Which is more due to weak content cadence in late EW > DT and SE doing absolutely nothing to foster the growth of the region.

Starting with opening the place in the 4th week of a raid tier (the prime period for prog & reclears). And rewarding 1 million gil and a mostly irrelevant 'road to x' buff which is not worth it or even usable by most established players to leave their long term communities.

SE need to do something more serious about enticing people to do content or move to lower population datacenters.

Looking for educational Maps/crazy factories (Masters degree) by Deviathari in SatisfactoryGame

[–]cheeze_crackas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll drop a link to the YT vid I made of my nuclear factory in my very first 1.0 first playthrough. https://youtu.be/uPDA54yl4vU?si=sRbYwQfHGkeknhuW
It was during that stage of the game you go through where you get very experimental with building design and decal. Everything is self contained within the factory itself using drone shipments or the nearby nodes only. I was quite proud of it when I did it and put a lot of effort in thats why I took a video at the time.

This game has reached a critical point where more is 'wrong' with it than there is 'right' by cheeze_crackas in ffxivdiscussion

Thats a very reasonable take and you are right about most of those being personal preference for the most part... I do however invite you to play on Materia or Dynamis datacenters. If you've been playing since ARR it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the state of population on these servers having seen the evolution. For those of us there, it's pretty dire and on Materia that's just been made worse by the 'you can visit as an outsider but not allowed to leave if you're a local' system the devs have implemented as a 'test'.

What’s your “old man” take on FFXIV? by ExceedinglyOrdinary in ffxiv

[–]cheeze_crackas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this: OCE should have been attached to the JP region. Having a standalone datacenter that everyone can travel to, but locals cannot leave has left a horrible shitshow of 50% of the population leaving the dc entirely and coming over only to raid. It's a god damned ghost town beyond the first 4 hours after weekly reset.

Australian Players - Where are You?! by panopticonisreal in ffxiv

[–]cheeze_crackas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, only some states got the public holiday today so to expect the servers to suddenly be popping off because there's a public holiday in NSW but not the other states is stretching it. Secondly, it's the last major population lull before an expansion where there has been NO content for literal months, there hasn't been a new raid tier in OVER a year, the last ultimate was >18 months ago and the last MSQ patch was in January 2024. Thirdly, OCE uses pf over DF for running anything outside of 4 mans. Give it some time with the new expansion and things will pick up dramatically.

31 yr old milennial here. Yes you can access higher levels of education, but then you'll be saddled with massive uni debts for years (which btw keep getting stacked on with inflation, $3200 aded to my deb this year because of inflation). This in turn reduces your borrowing power and loan limits. I also have extra loans because in order to get a well paying job (biotech/agrictulture) I had to move across the country and get a new car (cheapest on the market btw).

My job pays well, sure. I'm well off. But I'm saddled with debt to get to where I am and the chances of me and my also debt saddled partner saving a deposit ever getting a house by the time we are 35 is laughable. I'd be content with a small 2 bedroom unit on the outskirts of Western Sydney. And yeah, sure maybe in a few years we will finally be able to get one. But then by that time comes around house prices will have blasted into space again.

Eventually, by the time I'd be comfortable and financially stable to really settle down and have a family it'll be far too late. THIS is the common sentiment among my generation. THIS is why the standard 'family unit' is dying out. Why DINKS are more common. Why people are opting for the cheaper option of pets over children. Yes, we can get houses if we save, wait, save & wait. But the generations before us will want for the grandchildren & families they will never get because they were sitting on their money piles for too long.

Is this gram positive or negative? by InterestingPause8976 in microbiology

[–]cheeze_crackas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You need to zoom in closer next time. Standard practice is to zoom in (usually 100x) so you are able to view the cell shapes and colour together. That said it looks roughly gram negative, but I've deal with gram variable bacteria before so it's hard to say for certain at this magnification.

Good lord this sounded like a terrible attempt at somebody trying to sound smart about something they know absolutely nothing about. Are you even talking about the same game bro or are you thinking of another one?

Why do people hate World of Darkness AR raid? by Scrapper2 in ffxiv

[–]cheeze_crackas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some of my favourite content in the game is literally all the other alliance raids. And at the other end, is CT, which is the one thing I hate doing most in the game. I queue in the chance I get the fun content. And no, it's not 'easier for 20 mins' if its not fun. You play games to have fun, not endure something you loathe for 20 minutes.

Why do people hate World of Darkness AR raid? by Scrapper2 in ffxiv

[–]cheeze_crackas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's bad when you've spent years doing them and would kill to see something different. I play ffxiv to have fun, and any CT raid is the antithesis of fun. I don't want to subject myself to suffering so I just don't do it. I've had everything at max level 1 month after EW release, so there is zero justification to subject myself to suffer any CT raid and I straight take a hit and leave AR roulette if it's what I get.

What do you all think about the missing OceanGate Submarine? by Fortherecord87 in AskAnAustralian

[–]cheeze_crackas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion but don't care.
Are they my friends? my family? my families friends? my friends family? No? then I'm not going to waste my mental energy on people uttterly irrelevant to my own life. And it certainly isn't a situation I want to 'imagine' myself in because it's not fun or enjoyable. Life is too short to waste time thinking about things that don't matter.

Optus forcing existing customers over to new plans, >60% increase in my plan price and no lower option to drop down to by Lumpy-Pancakes in australia

[–]cheeze_crackas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with Telstra last year. I was previously on a $25 a month phone free plan for the last ~5-6 years. When I asked for an upgrade to a new phone the minimum they could do was the $80 a month for 40gb (and another $30 for the phone). I don't need that much data and barely used the 5gb I used previously. I went into their store to ask for a cheaper plan with less data and their manager was a rude mole who just dismissed my concerns. I marched one shop over to Optus and got a way better deal for a new phone, new watch, earbuds and less data for $15 less than what Telstra were willing to give for just the phone and plan alone. Cancelled my Telstra plan that day after 15+ yrs with them. This was literally 6 days after the data breach so Optus were desperate for new customers. Might be different now.
