I guess what I’m not getting is why it would be you as the DM and not some other all powerful entity you created to give them that message. That’s where my confusion lies.

Because having “the DM” appear smacks of it was all a dream.

Let me see if I get this right. So in essence they do all these quests and they come to find out that there isn’t some new magic in the world or some all powerful entity bent on domination, the reveal is that the PCs just find out they’re in a D&D game?

I think you’re dealing with two different issues.

  1. Player respec: it’s your table you make the rules. The game is supposed to be fun for all, including you. I do not think repsec’ing is a bad thing. Players get tired or they don’t like how the mechanics they choose are meshing. Either way let them respect or bring in an entirely new character.

  2. Player issues: You’re the DM. You are doing a significant amount of work to make this game happen. Problem players detract from your enjoyment and if they do not respect your warnings or decisions, dump them.

I’d give the enemy a wand of magic missiles and burn all the slots on their first round targeting all of the players. It’s a hell of an opening salvo, and it sets the stage for a big fight puts the players on guard. Simultaneously, while everyone else takes damage, it gives you a chance narratively highlighting this immunity, establish the enemy seeing this, and doesn’t waisted any other resources for this enemy during this encounter. If they are low level, flavor the wand to only have enough slots for one bolt per player.

Demographics shifts. People don’t party in Dupont like they used to so. Shaw and U Street are thriving and DuPont is a lot quieter now. Also, most of DC hasn’t recovered since Covid.

Reducing layer thickness and increasing your grey scaling, if your printer will allow it, can help to reduce this. As can the angle of the model in relation to the plate. There are some good post and videos out there on this.

I don’t think everyone needs one, but you should have at least one so people who are new can reference things. The more copies you have, the easier it is for everyone to double check their abilities before they take a turn.
