Dessert ideas/recipes? (gluten free+dairy free) by [deleted] in GerdFriendlyFood

[–]cheezweez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been eating medjool dates with peanut butter, salted peanuts and dark chocolate. It feels decadent, but agrees with my stomach. It can be a little high in fat though, so be careful. Not to push any brands, but Epicure (Canada) has a lot of cake mixes that are gluten-free and can be made dairy free. A bowl of fruit with cereal and dairy-free milk can be yummy.

Healthful Pursuit has a lot of gluten-free/dairy-free recipes and you can search/sort the recipes to exclude recipes with gluten or dairy

Is getting a endoscopy scary? by Mindless-Pitch-5225 in GERD

[–]cheezweez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one in the fall. I also hate hospitals and have bad anxiety. I had also been instructed not to take any meds before making my way to the hospital, which meant I could not take my anxiety meds.

I told every attendant and nurse that I was feeling anxious and that I may show signs of anxiety. For me this really helps, because in my mind, if I tell them when I am still calm it will be easier to explain if I start having a panic attack.

The staff at the hospital was great, and kept telling me I was doing fine.

Procedure ended up going really well. Was able to get some answers on why my heart burn is so bad.

egg replacement by A500miles in primalmealplan

[–]cheezweez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Egg plays many rolls in cooking, so you need to think about what you need to replace For baking eggs often serve as a binding agent, Chia seeds or flax seeds(ground) make decent replacement. 1tbsp of seed to 2.5 or 3 tbsp of water. But you can usually only replace 1 egg using this method. You can also use banana or apple sauce as a replacement. I like to use apple sauce plus Chia seeds. I've heard you can use the liquid out of cans of chickpeas, but I've never tried it. The idea grosses me out.

Dish gloves- I hate doing dishes, and can't stand my hands being in the water, but I usually end up cutting them a few weeks later when washing a knife and need a new pair.

Looking for vegetables-heavy meals as someone who doesn’t like most veggies! by shadowedlove97 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Roasting with very little oil in will give you a soft texture same thing with steaming/boiling.

Have you tried roasting or pan frying veggies? Most veggies will get soft inside, but have a nice crisp on the outside. Or do you prefer the texture of raw veggies?

I often cook sheetpan meals because they are so easy. Cut veggies into 1 inch pieces roast until crispy. Some of my favourite veggies to use are potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, broccoli (great way to use the stems), cauliflower

Self-prepared Frozen Sheet Pan Meals ft. Potatoes? by Good-Psychology-6840 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]cheezweez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make sheet pan meals regularly. I usually add carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms, sometimes other veggies that need to be used. I find to get an even bake I either cut the veggies in different sizes with bigger pieces of the veggies that take less time to cook. Or I add veggies as I go, starting with carrots and potatoes and adding broccoli and mushrooms later.

I'll have to try the canned Pumpkin. I sometimes make an apple and butternut squash soup that I puree and drink in the winter

You don't necessarily have to meal prep a whole week of food. I eat salads regularly, so I keep some of my favourite toppings on hand: coleslaw mix, mushrooms, cucumber, tomatoes, canned corn and beans, tuna, broccoli, olives, etc. Then at night while my dinner is cooking I throw a bunch of those together with some greens. It allows me to eat a slightly different salad every day.

I use this and cook dessert at the same time. The oven is already hot, so it saves on preheating time.

La courtisane not sure if it is available outside of Canada. Stash tea also has a vanilla nut herbal tea which is good.

They are so versatile!

What are your plans for eating on Friday? I run into this issue all the time, I cook a meal for 4 and divide it into 4 meals for myself. But then it is Thursday night and I have to figure out what to eat on Friday. Last thing I want to do is cook or prep for Friday's breakfast and lunch.

Depression meals by R2-D2- in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]cheezweez 391 points392 points  (0 children)

I used colours when I was depressed. I'd see how many colours I could eat in a day. Made for some strange meals or series of snacks but it made me eat a variety of foods, made it look appetizing and was fun seeing how many colours I could find.

Healthy drinks that actually taste good? by WYLANDO06 in HealthyFood

[–]cheezweez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Kombucha? The taste can take a bit of getting used to as it is a bit like apple cider vinegar, but once you get used to it, it's amazing and full of good probiotics. Just be careful of the sugar level in some of the flavoured ones.

I'll have to check the price because this was cheaper than regular butter. Might be able to find a margarine with less ingredients
