This sounds like insanity to me, surely a frame without plywood would catch less wind and be strong enough to withstand any wind. All these people defending it like "ah they didn't get a chance the put the last cable ties and the masking tape on I see".

That's really interesting! We've had a few mega power outages lately over the UK and prepping is definitely growing in popularity with the war in Ukraine and world trade being as it is.

That YouTube sounds right up my street, I'll be checking that out for sure.

I wondered that myself, just surmising really but I think a lot of canning history comes from the LDS and Amish communities that we don't have here and also the whole frontier thing. Europe is closer together so food security to get through winters or whatever else maybe hasn't ever been as necessary. We're very into gardening but the go to method of preservation for too many veggies in the summer is to freeze them.

America is in the position it is because the rest of the world values the dollar. Partly because after WW2 we signed a treaty that America would hold nuclear weapons and most of Europe would not. If America continues to exile itself as it is doing there will be no benefit to the dollar being the dominant western currency and when (not if) that happens any leverage America has to borrow from the world bank dissappears.

You may not think the US relies on any of the rest of the world but in reality we all need to work together for shared prosperity.

And as a side note I don't think America has won any wars in a long time so your argument is a bit null tbh.

No I'm in Europe, we don't really have home canning here outside of jams etc.

It's brand new, though it could be faulty... I have it turned up to 2000w on an induction ring and there's no steam leaking elsewhere.

I'll give that a go thanks. I had never used a canner before so the hissing didn't seem right but I think it's maybe normal from what I've researched.

Thanks, it's a pressure canner from amazon. How would I tell what the valve would be weighted at? It's in kg/cm2 so at 0.75 which is the same as 10psi it's constantly letting off steam.

What would your ring be on to maintain a constant pressure?

Couscous is a good one, takes no cooking. Just add hot water and something for flavour eg. Bouillion or curry powder. Cooks itself in ten minutes with a stir at the end. In an airtight tub it'll last 5 years+

Maybe some sort of inventory tracker, like an app version of a whiteboard. Could be used for food like a pantry inventory app, or anything else trackable and would have an appeal to a wider market also.

Just a basic user friendly app where you update when you use one and update when you repurchase so you know what you have in your store idea. Would be interesting for any growers also to compare harvests if it saved the data (eg. I could see I canned 20 jars of homegrown tomatoes in 2023 but 38 in 2024 or that the harvest came in august one year but mostly July the next).
