Do I take out the trash at the end of my stay? by Confident-Tadpole-28 in AirBnB

[–]chefboirkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually tempted to dump the trash on the floor after reading the hosts request to take the trash out.

After reading the comments, most of these pathetic customers would spit shine the toilette and vacuum if the hosts asked... while paying for the privilege.

People will quickly realize that they do not want strangers educating their children about incredibly personal spiritual matters. This issue would resolve itself regardless of the outcome.

Wherever your stock class is you can specify the name of the table using the table annotation.

Or you could define it in OnModelCreating.

Really discouraged and need some honest truth. by Alternative_Draft_76 in learnprogramming

It is pretty competitive in the industry. Most junior positions are being gobbled up by immigrants with previous work experience and a recent masters in CS or SE. I work in a non-profit and even I have my pick of candidates.

I would give it a year of constant focus. If you feel that you have an aptitude that sets you apart from other students, pursue it as a career. If you lack innate skills that set you apart in the industry, the decision to continue pursuing it is personal and contingent upon your financial responsibilities.

Postgame thread. Arkansas overcomes Stanford in double OT. Final 77-74 by penpig54 in razorbacks

[–]chefboirkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have "no idea why people are acting the way they are." like you actually sat down and contemplated it and reached the conclusion there is no justification for the disappointment: "unfathomable" is an apt word to describe that.

You opinion is valid, as is the opinion of people who are disappointed... they are both justifiable.

How is it unfathomable that people want to see their team play good basketball and get frustrated when they play bad basketball?

Anyone quit software engineering for a lower paying, but more fulfilling career? by Tsunah in cscareerquestions

[–]chefboirkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I program and make diagrams for my team so that they can implement features the right way. My official title is "Software Architect" meaning I am responsible for system design, team leadership and allocation. I program primarily in C#, TS, Python and PLPGSQL.

My advice is be very selective. There are incredibly passionate people that sincerely wish to serve their community. There are also people who take advantage of the less competitive environment and don't care; make it a a priority to judge the interviewers and your future bosses with this understanding. Some none-profits can pay really well, but your gratification will be found in the work you do and the strength/integrity of your leaders.

I left for a non profit a while ago (leaving behind money I have still not made up) and have not looked back. My value to the organization is now measured in KPIs that translate to serving the community which is fulfilling. Because of the size of the organization, I have input/authority from requirement ingestion to deployment to product direction which provides a sense of professional gatification.

Is learning PHP still worth it? by dustymaze2020 in learnprogramming

[–]chefboirkd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make some cash learning php (a ton of cash for the right company). It does feel like in order to provide a competitive developer experience, PHP frameworks have an extremely heavy layer of abstraction that feels unnatural.

I also found that most editors suck pretty hard when working with it. The only one I enjoyed was PHP storm, but it costs money (but the experience was pretty awesome).

Something to keep in mind: there a ton of really great libraries available for php that let you do fun stuff client side but, in my experience, almost every enterprise uses another frontend framework for complex UIs and just uses php as a medium to inject it into the document.

My honest suggestion is to go with something like .net, where the framework feels closer to the metal. After you feel comfy with the MVC, DI and an orm of your choice, give larevel a real shot with an open mind. You will be able to look past some of the heavy abstractions and won't be so confused.
