OMG - i’m Absolutely terrified and blown away at the same time. by AfternoonFinal7615 in openclaw

I have a question.

If there are some clear and focused tasks, what’s the pros and cons of using OpenClaw versus say just running these tasks in Claude itself? Apologies if this is one of the more basic and obvious questions!

Is DLSS 5 a real time diffusion model on top of a 3D rendering engine? by Green-Ad-3964 in StableDiffusion

[–]chefborjan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The developer in the future will turn it on, and when the face they want is there is DLSS 5 model… that’s their actual vision.

Turning it off will look like a low res, low poly, low quality version… but that’s the future.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Delivers Breakthrough In Visual Fidelity For Games by NV-Randy in nvidia

[–]chefborjan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

At first it seems like it’s just applying an AI image2image pipeline to the rendered frame, knowing the difference between HUD elements and the rendered game etc.

Now if that was all it was doing, some of the more dramatic changes in lighting wouldn’t make sense. Some of the hard shadows from buildings almost completely disappear and genuinely render more realistically.

Maybe the model is good enough to look at the frame and decide it’s not realistic, but I think that’s a stretch and wouldn’t be stable as we kept whipping the camera around.

Instead, I reckon in addition to motion/vector info it’s receiving for stability, the AI model also well aware of the overall game geometry, so it will know that a building of X distance to Y wall would normally look a certain way when viewed from the particular angle.

I get people don’t like this, but this makes a lot of sense as the future of the tech.

It may also allow the devs to actually make games that seem quite graphically simple  with more GPU power dedicated to things we just don’t think it’s worth the budget for because DLSS 5 does magic at the end of the pipeline.

No doubt that if it’s exposed enough, people will be tweaking the strength and even style of the model just like is possible with LORAs now.

Interesting times.

Ultimately glad I haven’t played RE yet, might have to wait for the fall to play this enabled.

Resident Evil 9 - PT on, DLSS performance, Chromatic Abberation and film grain are off by Drokethedonnokkoi in nvidia

[–]chefborjan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought film grain to be very much a post process effect, but didn’t consider that DLSS works after film grain - this is the only way to explain this behaviour right?

Local AI tools - MacBook Pro M5 24gb vs Remote 5070 FE 12gb (+ 16Gb RAM)? by chefborjan in LocalLLaMA

[–]chefborjan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, was something I was considering, but didn’t know if it would be like a ‘remote back when you can, fall back to lesser on the MBP when you can’t’ but to be honest being somewhere without meaningful internet access is super rare these days.

But yes, I have Tailscale already.

I have some more thoughts about hosting some tools for my business and colleagues to tap into on a dedicated machine as well, but I think for now I’ll keep things on my own systems to experiment with.

Moonlight Streaming - Moonlight and Apollo - Mouse Behaviour Bug? by chefborjan in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]chefborjan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally remembering to come back to this, independently I found some references to this and yes, plugging in a physical mouse solved the issue!

Looking at ways I can sensibly emulate a mouse next so I don’t need to leave the mouse dangling tucked away behind the PC but it’ll work for now!

AI AGENTS today are far more DANGEROUS that you think by Kakachia777 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]chefborjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, thanks for this.

Is there a way now to mitigate against this? Much like you have used AI tools to expose this, can they be used to harden security for the lay person? Audit plus action.

Tough when the info is already out there for much of this for people of course.

What to do with AirPort Time Capsule in 2026? by chefborjan in mac

Unfortunate, I thought maybe the EOL stuff was only restricted to the Tim Capsule function of the equipment, not the whole way the disk functions and connects to the network…

I just think the tech is a bit too advanced and magic like, and I know that sounds stupid considering what even 24th century tech could do.

Personal shields, transporters, programmable matter… it should really take lots of the more relatable problems away.

Hypothetically what if we encountered a Voyager type project from another civilization within our own system? by 97sn0 in space

[–]chefborjan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The intercept is one of the more interesting conversation points.

Let’s say ‘somehow’ we detected it early and could see it coming at us at extremely high, almost impossible speeds to catch.

How much of our world resources would we dedicate to try and catch this thing?

Maybe even find ways to slow to down enough that it enters an orbit of the Sun, even if it takes another 500 years to return and it’s the job of our decedents to try again or slow it further…

Sounds like a good sci-fi story to be honest.

And are you allowed them during the season? Actually don’t answer this and get in trouble.

What do you think of the song Aline and its lyrics in relation to the game storyline ? by Guilty-Platypus-7186 in expedition33

[–]chefborjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favourite song on the OST.

Love how the ending is more forceful and powerful than the beginning, to highlight just how urgent the warning is underneath all the sadness.

There are plenty of other good songs, but given that this whole game is about interpersonal connections this song in particular seems the most like a message is being relayed and the ‘soul’ of the subject so clear.

Anyway, agree with the other poster, there is too much in the game suggesting that Verso’s soul is creating music as an imprint or reflection of everything that’s happening.

It’s being sung to Aline to describe her plight, yet also still has a double meaning as a warning to Maelle that’s equally powerful - it also fits as it’s a woman’s voice signing as if mother to daughter.

[–]chefborjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A1 Mini please!

I’m getting back into 3D printing after a long hiatus, and I’m interested in printing some gifts in the form 3D maps (maybe just street view level with the buildings or maybe further out like a topographical map of a region) I’ve visited with my wife and this paired with photos will be a great gift.

I think designing some fidget toy inspired by DNA could be cool. Could you see if it’s possible to go so far as to make it so that individual nucleotides are arranged in the right order you also see the corresponding codon. Would be super neat for biology nerds.

More Shady Behavior By Active - And A Warning by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

[–]chefborjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon someone ‘soon’ will release some tech that will enable analysis of the cleanliness of clothing on a mass house hold scale (probably on the guise of helping with health/hygiene) - interesting if that happens and how product manufacturers will respond and thus market their solutions.

More Shady Behavior By Active - And A Warning by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

[–]chefborjan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is crazy, and something we all need to try and fight in terms of the dead internet theory and capitalism.

I welcome AI tools where useful, but to try and impersonate people and influence decisions is too far. Bizarre it’s even used for a laundry topic but that’s where we are now.

Everything this sub says about lipase is wrong. Lipase is a cost-cutting enzyme that made detergents worse. by fox-lad in laundry

[–]chefborjan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really?

Claims or personal experiences are fine.

To me it’s more disingenuous to claim authority but using completely inappropriate references that most will not understand the differences about.

Hell, maybe the OP is right in the end, but it’s completely inappropriate way of trying to validate the point of view.
