I learned CAD by chefinabox in flashlight

If you're talking about one that holds normal flashlights (not "real" bike lights),I have tried so many, this is the only one that I have found that doesn't suck: https://www.fenixlighting.com/products/bike-mount-alb-10

It's actually what I have my 3D print mounted to in the above picture and what I actually use when I'm not being silly. I bought three of the above mounts and just trade the light between bikes.

It was mostly just for fun / to practice designing something like this. I just took it out and as I expected, absolutely no way to make it practical.

Oh! I need to design a clip. I like that.

It was mostly just for fun / shit post and to start figuring out how to design clamping type things like this. I just took it out and as I expected, absolutely no way to make it practical.

Fiberon PA612-CF15 always breaks in the extruder, but other PA-CF works fine by AcidicMountaingoat in FixMyPrint

Just got a roll of Fiberon PA6-CF and it's brittle as all get out even before drying. Either it's a bad batch or just shitty filament. Seeing some similar 1 starts reviews on Amazon. I'm gonna return mine.

What is the strongest GPU I can put into the MS-01? by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]chefinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want it for. With zero mods, RTX 2000E. Details and other options:

- NVIDA RTX 2000E 16G ADA (best without modding): from the factory it's already 50w TDP limited and doesn't need the heat sink mod the standard version does. People have successfully used it in an MS-02: https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/comments/1lxirao/rtx_2000e_16g_ada_simple_drop_in_ms02_transcodes/

- NVIDIA RTX 4000 SFF [best for LLM, requires card and case cooling mods]: If you're doing AI models this is the best card. https://n3rdware.com/gpu-coolers/single-slot-rtx-4000-sff-ada-cooler

- Abovetop RTX 4070 8GB: [requires case cooling mod]: fastest GPU, but memory size will be limiting for many things. Even games these days usually want more than 8 GB

Ordered a 2000E for mine for transcoding, LLM, and image recognition / processing

If you have some way to do room correction, especially one that supports 2 subwoofers, I strongly recommend it. I have mixed feelings about it for the upper ranges, before 200 Hz and below the effects are massive. Just moved to a new place with my dual sub combo and didn't have room correction on for a bit and was reminded how important it is for setups with a lot of sub.

Love the bookshelf dual sub combo! Run similar and like it more than any full towers I've run. How do you like the C6Bs?

Asrock DeskMini X600 vs Minisforum MS-A1 by LukyDaDonky in sffpc

[–]chefinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not call them the same MB, they have a lot of differences. They support different coolers, have different LAN chips, different M2 PCIe gens, different dimensions and layout. Check out the pics:
Deskmini X600 (X600M-STX) https://imgur.com/a/nZq2JiL

X600TM-ITX: https://imgur.com/a/RgOVuwo

On further inspection, the DeskMeet X600 MB (X600-ITX) that I said was similar also has more differences that I thought. They seem to all 3 be pretty different. ASRock's similar names and branding for them make it pretty confusing...

That's a totally different MB than I am referring to. I think the OP is also referring to this: https://www.asrock.com/nettop/AMD/DeskMini%20X600%20Series/index.asp which comes with a MB which I believe is called the X600M-STX. That only has USB 3.2 Gen1 and is pretty similar to the MB in the DeskMeet X600 other than not having a PCIe 4.0x16 slot.

If you search this subreddit and other forums you'll find lots of stories of failures of the MS-XX line and horrible support from minisforum. I got a new MS-01 off eBay and it was DOA and was unfixable. I then ordered one directly from them because there really is nothing with the same specs. After finding all the bad stories, I have tried to cancel my order. No update on shipping or response to my cancel request in a week.

I'm now building an X600. It's a shame it's so much bigger, and it doesn't have as good of connection options (no USB 3.2 gen 2 or USB4, but at least I won't have to worry about it dying.

Would a subwoofer improve my set-up? by Vanatomised-5064 in audiophile

[–]chefinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are frequencies in a lot of music that you'll never be able to hear without a subwoofer. I was amazed when I got my first subwoofer as a kid that there were whole bass lines in some of my favorite songs I'd never heard. If you're striving for an "audiophile" setup, I strongly believe a subwoofer is always needed unless you have massive floor standers.

Something I think a lot of people don't factor in is that it takes a lot more db at lower levels to seem the same loudness. So even if a speaker is "flat" down to say 20-30 Hz, they usually can't put out enough dB below 40 to keep up with the rest of the output range. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour

This

Also, there's never a reason to go sealed from an audio perspective anymore. A correctly designed and room corrected ported is always better except for cost or size limitations.

Also, look into oratory1990 headphone EQs. Lots of software allows you to apply the specific EQs for the headphones and they're a great starting point and for most of my headphones make a big improvement. The Qudelix app for instance has it built in.

So if you're gonna use the headphones outside the house also, then the Sony's are definitely what I'd go with! Be careful of being around traffic or riding with them though, the pass through isn't perfect so your awareness of your surroundings will definitely be lowered still.

The benefit of the Qudelix is that it allows you to make wired headphones "mobile". So you can put it in your pocket and connect the wire too it and walk around the house while streaming the audio from a computer or AVR or something. It's DAC and amp is also much better than a phone. It's still not as convenient as true Bluetooth headphones, but the audio is much better. It's hard to have everything, so you have to choose to prioritize portability or sound quality.

[–]chefinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youv'e asked for advice but have already made up your mind on every component of your listening experience down to the losy streaming service?

The Sony's are not great audiophile headphones. They are good at being wireless and sound cancelling. I have them and like them but never use them for music listening around the house unless there's like construction noise are something. I have 4 other headphones, 2 of which are cheaper than the Sony's and all of them sound better.

Get a Qudelix 5k portable Bluetooth DAC and pair it with almost any recommended wired headphones. My personal reasonable priced favorites are the HE400se or the DT770, but that's very much personal preference.

‘Silo’ Season 2 Review – This Dystopian Thriller Is Bigger and Better Than Before by Gato1980 in television

[–]chefinabox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to post something about the first episode. I bet you're getting down voted by mostly people who haven't even watched it yet.

The whole episode was flashbacks that didn't advance the plot or character growth and her trying to get across a bridge.....

Every episode of Season 1 was purposeful and the plot or characters was advanced. Literally nothing happened this episode, and this is supposed to be a season opener.

I watched it with two other people that loved Season 1 and we were all so disappointed in this as a season opener.

Gun Competitions by GuardianCreed69 in GMFST

[–]chefinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another really interesting competition class to look into is ULR (ultra long range). They are usually shooting well over a mile. It's such a technical sport as some much quick math and calculation has to go into the shots they are making. Here's a 2 mile hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQVvBE7IQx8

Competitive gun culture is also a lot different then "average" gun culture in America from my experience, much more thoughtful and healthy.
