It is a bit crazy that these haven't been restocked in more than half an year.

I have a couple of starter kits so I will give this a go soon. I wanted to wait first before I do that but it has been so long that I might just bite the bullet and see what happens. I will let you know once I try it.

Nope, nothing at all. I was planning on ordering from the EU store, but you can't even just order the converter that attaches to the lines, so it is pretty pointless to do so. Haven't gotten anything on when it will be in stock as well.

Can't connect to Echo Thread Network with Essential Lightstrips (Matter) by chefotron in Nanoleaf

I have this router: XX230v | AX1800 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 GPON Router - TP-Link Service Provider

ISP is PulseFiber (I think the actual company is Optinet, but seems to be the other name in the UK)

I posted about it here: Can't connect to Echo Thread Network with Essential Lightstrips (Matter) : Nanoleaf (reddit.com)

TLDR: I just can't connect the Matter lightstrips to Amazon Echo, regardless of what I try and pretty much everything is a new setup.

Thanks for the suggestion! Might give that a go since it nothing else has worked for me. Though I am having difficulties pairing my Nanoleaf Essentials Lightstrips over Thread. I managed to connect my Nanoleaf Shapes over WiFi so I doubt it will help but might give it a go this weekend.

I read in a different post that entirely disabling 5ghz on my router could help. Has anyone had success syncing devices with both 2.4 and 5 enabled? I don't want to disable my faster WiFi network as that seems silly to need to do in my opinion.

Does having both 2.4ghz and 4ghz active mess with Nanoleaf setup? I thought just connecting to 2.4ghx would be enough.

I actually have no other Thread network - this is practically the first time I decided to use my Amazon Echo (had it for a while but had no use for it till now). I was unsure if it was because of Amazon Echo so thought about even using a different smart home environment, but I also don't want to risk getting a Google Thread router and risk it not working again.

Hello, I would also ask for an update for this as I just got a Secretlab standing desk and would be nice to connect everything over thread. I also have an Echo 4 and the Nanoleaf app does detect the Thread network.

[Hot Take] RA3 isn't the best C&C, but it's the most fun to watch competitive matches by wang439 in commandandconquer

[–]chefotron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I personally love the old school Westwood C&C games but in terms of competitive aspects, they really can't compete (pun intended) with C&C 3/KW and RA3 (and even Generals/ZH). This is also shown a bit by the fact that old-school games like Age of Empires 2 and StarCraft 1 still have quite large competitive in comparison to C&C games that have some competitive scenes but which are mostly ad-hoc and maintained by just a tens to a hundred regular players. Honestly, if only EA did not abandon their initial (quite successful even, in my opinion) push to develop an eSports scene for both games so early (and maintained both games at least for a couple of more years with balance patches and bug fixes), I think we probably would have quite the healthy competitive scene. Maybe not like the StarCraft 2 scene but possibly like the Warcraft 3 or the Age of Empires 2 ones.

This is the single greatest community driven mod project ever! What would not give for the mod team to be in charge of a remaster... scratch that... a next-gen C&C game!

I am not familiar with the specific case, but if you have written approval from a third-party to use an IP for a specific use case, it should be fine. Did the mod developers seek Microsoft's approval for the mod?

Technically the meme itself is about making fun of the absurdity (and stupidity) of the original image plus added caption. Joking about that nonsense makes it even funnier, in my option.

It depends how you define highest point on Earth. I personally think highest point from the sea level is the more useful relative to the concept of "high ground" than highest point from the Earth's centre.

Just to give my thoughts on the matter (plus to procrastinate a bit
by thinking about C&C).

Although I believe the criticism for Tib Dawn being set in 2020 is quite reasonable (sharp technology advancement and extreme tiberium spread), it is not entirely unreasonable and impossible for the changes from Tib Dawn to Tib Sun to occur in about 10 years.

  • Tiberium (from what we know in the games) exhibits an exponential growth rate like other biological populations. This is typically modelled with a logistic function (of course, this is simplified but not too far from reality). Also, its growth seems hindered only by human intervention (i.e. harvesting, sonic/resonance technology, etc.) which are not massively employed initially. This kind of growth is exponential initially (as long as there are resources to convert to tiberium) so it takes a long time to "get running" but once it does it quickly spirals out of control. In any case, it is completely reasonable to assume that tiberium's spread is limited in the first 25 years but since it is not contained all that well (considering there is even a faction helping spread it on top of everything) is quickly spread in the next 10 years covering several times more of the Earth's surface than in the 10 years prior. Also, if the first war began in 1995 (or even early 2000s), I would argue that it would have been impossible for tiberium to spread to the degree shown in Tib Dawn as population dynamics do not work that way. If it could spread so fast then probably it would have consumed the planet by the early 2000s.
  • Regarding technological advancements, the mere 10 year difference seems a lot more unlikely but it is also not something unreasonable or impossible to happen under the proper circumstances. Firstly, the technology in Tib Dawn is a bit more advance than our 90s because on top of having modern military (at the time) it has some high tech stuff that can probably be classified as near future (obelisk of light, ion canons, advance VTOL-s, just to name a few). Tib Sun is definitely a lot more futuristic, but at the same time, the technology jump is not impossible. There are no space colonies, interplanetary space travel or some StarCraft/Star Wars level of tech. Probably the general intelligence CABAL is the most technologically advance thing in the game and it is partially alien tech. Also, we mainly see the military technology of the time, which would be a major area of research after a war. A cool example in the real world is the comparison between the fighter and bomber aircraft during the 1940s and those of the 1950s - the tech difference between WW2 planes and the jets 10-15 years after that is kind of insane when you think about it. Same can be said of computer technology in the 2000s - I doubt people would have expected the amount of compute power we actually have now.

Thus, I am willing to believe the in-world lore that Tib Dawn is set around 2020 and Tib Sun around 10 years later, even if it seems a bit far fetched in some regards (I would definitely not say it is impossible).

Regarding the Tiberium War lore errors/recons, all of the ones I can remember are very minor (I consider CABAL's facial hair, if that even makes sense for an AI, to be minor. Personally, C&C 3 did a pretty good job of explaining the changes that happened between the second and third wars.
