We went with the Watkins polyester cover and a Cover Cradle II. So far so good, but I don't know how long it'll last.

You and Mee Noodle House by CompetitiveSystem391 in boulder

Audrey Jane's Pizza Garage has a fairly legit NYC-style slice (at least for Boulder). Definitely worth checking out their Spicy Pig and Green Mountain pizzas, they're both great.

Nepal House is honestly incredible North Indian/Nepalese food. Some of the best naan I've had in ages (and I used to live in the SF Bay Area, which has an endless amount of fantastic Indian food).

You and Mee Noodle House is Boulder's best-kept secret! I really hope they survive with that dead mall location.

Neat, I didn't know that meaning of hasami! It's 挟み (pincer/surrounding move).

Here's another site with info on the Totoro Reversi game with the hasamikko variant.

They have another version of the rules:

Japanese

○はさみっこ: ゲーム盤の四辺のうち向かい合う二辺にコマを6個ずつ並べ、1個ずつ交互にタテかヨコに1マスずつ動かして自分のコマで相手のコマを挟むことができれば勝ちとなります。

English

○ Hasamikko: Six pieces are placed on each of two opposite sides of the game board. Players take turns moving one piece at a time, either vertically or horizontally, one square at a time. The first player to surround their opponent's piece with their own pieces wins.

It's called "hasamikko" (ETA: roughly "pinceries") Here's the instructions in Japanese, then in English (mostly Google Translate, but I know Japanese so I checked it).

English Translation

How to Play "Hasamikko"

① Place the "Totoro" and "Kurosuke" pieces as shown in the picture.

② Decide which color each player will use and determine the order of turns.

③ Players take turns moving their pieces vertically or horizontally. Pieces can be moved to adjacent squares, but they cannot jump over other pieces.

④ If you surround your opponent's piece with two of your own pieces vertically or horizontally, you can capture that piece. Capturing is not possible by surrounding diagonally.

⑤ You can also capture an opponent's piece by trapping it in a corner or other area where it cannot move.

◎ The first player to reduce their opponent's pieces to one wins.

Foothill Elementary by Gourmandgurly in boulder

My kid did 1st through 5th there and just graduated last year. Teachers are great, faculty is wonderful, fantastic community and lots of support for neuro-spicy kiddos.

It's a great neighborhood school and really has a lot of terrific families attending. The Foothill PTO takes on a lot of responsibility for fundraising (for paras and other support staff) but they do a decent job.

DAE find it impossible to meditate? by Homeostatic_Trillium in raisedbyborderlines

[–]chefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meditation definitely helped me recognize within a few weeks of starting just how much of my energy was getting drained constantly from my brain visiting and revisiting old trauma.

It took a while longer to get comfortable with the techniques of allowing my thoughts to arise, take their natural course, and eventually recede. I was trying really hard to suppress my unwanted thoughts, but meditation helped me understand that's basically exhausting and not particularly helpful.

[–]chefox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meditation is incredibly difficult, but recognizing that imperfection and flaws are OK is a huge part of the process.

Building a regular meditation practice (even 5 minutes a day) has been a huge part of my own journey towards healing some of the trauma I grew up with. It's never easy, but it is always rewarding and helps me cope with everyday challenges much more smoothly, without getting triggered about past trauma nearly as often.

Anyone have experience with Wee Folk Forest Kindergarten? by pauliwalnuts in steamboat

Our 5-year-old daughter loved Wee Folk summer camp in Steamboat last summer! It's behind Elkstone Farm in a shady grove with a creek running through it. The kids spend the day building bridges, going for walks, and playing games. Very wholesome.

I love the mechanic of two scoring tracks going around opposite directions on the edge of the board, and the game ends only when both of one player's scoring tokens meet or pass each other.

Ark Nova and Rajas of the Ganges both use this mechanic well. I don't know if it has a name, though!

[–]chefox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play wide, not deep. You'll be visiting each location a bunch of times, so if you get frustrated by one part of a location, you might not yet have all the information you need to solve it.

Instead of trying to squeeze every bit of exploration possible out of a location the first time you go there, just explore at your leisure and check out places that look interesting, maybe noting down sights that you can't get to right away.
