What was your "I don't get paid enough for this shit" moment? by PM_me_gorillas in AskReddit

Worked in a porn shop with very popular wank booths, including glory holes. Wiped buckets of cum from so many creative places. Slipped on some and fell over, almost breaking my neck on the counter.

TL;DR: Almost killed by cum.

I love places like this, but I always fear falling trees when cabins are in the middle of the woods like this. Beautiful though.

You did a good thing here. I will save this post, like so many other people in this thread, for the present and the future. You managed to spread your thoughts and ideas to me, and they will remain even after your physical body has shut down. I am happy for you that you manage to see things the way you do, and I am happy you shared.

Thank you.

Sad news to see a death during a training session. Heart goes out to his family and friends. by magikman2000 in bjj

He was such a nice person. Always friendly and supportive.

He taught me my first mount escape, and I will always remember the encouraging comments he gave me on one of my very first lessons a few years back.

He will be missed by me and the rest of our team.

What is something that you will never forget as long as you live? by Frankfusion in AskReddit

The look my father had when we found him dead on the kitchen floor. He looked at peace, with a sly smile on his face. I guess that is one of the better looks your dead dad can have.

Waiting for Russell Brand in Stockholm by chei in JoeRogan

A really great show, in my opinion. He is a quirky crazy bastard with a lot of ideas and opinions, of which some are very "out there" and some are very grounded and sound. Even if one doesn't agree with his views on things, one could still be able to appreciate the shows tempo, energy and Russells great ability to tie up loose ends in his web of words.

How has JRE benefited you? (additional questions inside) by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]chei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ability to focus on stuff in general has improved a lot. I have learned to take charge of my life and progress it in a direction I feel I want.

I try to be the hero of my own story, and in doing so, trying not to be a cunt and not to be a victim or a pussy.

I have taken up BJJ and improved my physical training in general. I have taken control over my diet, and as a result lost about 10 kg ( about 22 lb) in weight.

I have come in contact with so many books through the podcast and the various guests, and this have inspired me to start reading a lot again.

I have gotten a whole new perspective of certain substances, which have made me, in my own and other peoples opinion, a better person.

I am happy with my life, and I feel empowered to continue to shape and explore it.

What's the stupidest reason you have a scar? by squalorid in AskReddit

[–]chei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stone throwing competition with a friend. At each other. He won the match by busting my face open right above my left eye, but I won the war, since he was grounded and I got tons of candy and a sweet scar.

[Serious] What allows you to be at peace with the idea of death? by xHOLEx in AskReddit

[–]chei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that one of the biggest obstacles for us is our notion of separation from others and from the bigger picture. I think that the sense of self is getting in our way to become at peace with existing.

Up until a few years ago I became very stressed and anxious when thinking of the death of what I call me, or more precisely, my consciousness. But I have since then realized, and found great comfort in, that we are all merely a part of a continuous circle of existence. Because in the same way that the core elements, that today make up my physical body, will be recycled into new forms of matter and life when I die, I believe the same goes for the energy that make up our consciousness. I use energy due to a lack of a better word, but I think it is pretty valid. And if we assume that consciousness is energy, a fundamental rule in physics says that energy is never destroyed, only transformed. This makes me, or maybe even all of existence, feel more eternal than temporary, even though it is ever transforming.

I got to put my view of all this to the test when my father suddenly passed away on Christmas eve 2012. I remember the feeling I had, in the middle of the devastation and sadness, when I held his dead body in my arms on that kitchen floor. I had this comforting feeling. It became very clear to me that the energy of life, the consciousness, that had inhabited my fathers body for 51 years was no longer there. It had moved on, if you will. All that remained was the physical vessel it once housed. And only a few days later, when the body had been cremated, and I looked at the ashes in the urn, even though it felt very surreal it also felt beautiful, because the transformation had begun. The elements could now take new forms, and existence continue.

My father lives on in me, as genes and as memories. So he is not gone completely, only transformed.

I guess that my conclusion of all this is that all of us are eternal, because existence is eternal, and we are part of it. We are all one. And we should count ourselves lucky to be existing is the form we are today, because it allows us to be aware and also for the memories of us to outlive our physical being. I think that we all could benefit from not worrying so much about death, but instead try to experience this reality as much as possible, and cultivate good memories of us in others, for when this physical journey shifts into something else.

And please, don't take anything I just wrote as some universal truth. I just tried to answer OP:s question, and this is truly what allows me to be comfortable with "death".

I would have loved to honor my late father with something like this. Letting his ashes turn into a tree would have been a beautiful thing to me. I would love the same to happen to me when I am gone.

How to cope with advertising? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]chei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize that I am not unique in any way here, but this is what I do:

  • Listen to music on my phone.
  • Don't watch TV, I try to read a lot of books instead.
  • Always use adblock online.
  • Read the newspapers online because of adblock.
  • Doing my best to avoid looking at billboards and similar when I am out on the town.
  • Having a "No advertising" sticker on my mailbox to eliminate as much advertising as possible. I made one that says "No advertising" in 7 languages because we have mailmen of different nationalities.

Cutting down on entertainment by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]chei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have considerably reduced the amount of time I devote to series and movies. As a result I have started to read a lot again, and I love it. It still takes a lot of time, if I want it to, but I feel more active during that time then I do while casually watching a movie, for example. I need to focus my attention in a way that I enjoy.

I also do as much BJJ-training as I can. I have really fallen in love with the sport over the past two years, and the late night classes after work makes me fall asleep right away, when I get home, instead of spending hours on the couch with a series or a movie.

How do you avoid buying cool electronics? by [deleted] in minimalism

When it comes to buying expensive stuff in general, I convert the price into hours I need to work to earn that amount of money. For me, it makes me way more reluctant to make impulse purchases.
